Description

The subject of the present invention is a chimney cap, formed of a set of sheet metal elements, comprising an annular lining of vertical axis which delimits, with one or more upper elements and one or more lower elements, from the passages located at two different levels.

We know that it is advantageous to line chimneys with capes of this kind capable of preventing the penetration of rain into the chimney and ensuring draft regardless of the wind direction. Thus for example, the Swiss patent disclosure CH-492 933 describes a cape which comprises several tapered external linings which engage one in the other so as to delimit with an upper shutter and a lower element which extends the smoke duct of the pairs of superimposed annular passages.

In some constructions, in particular in individual villas, a chimney is often provided at present, which comprises two or more parallel smoke pipes, connected for example one to a living room fireplace and the other to an oven bread or grill in another room. However, the known capes, suitable for such chimneys, have the drawback that the draft effect obtained by the lining can cause a backflow of smoke from one duct into the other.

The present invention therefore aims to achieve an efficient cape, whose construction and assembly are simple, and which is suitable for chimneys with several smoke ducts, this cape avoiding the drawback mentioned above.

For this purpose, the chimney cap according to the invention is characterized in that it is arranged to garnish a chimney which comprises at least two parallel smoke ducts, in that the lining is an element in the form of a trunk of pyramid which is connected to several lower elements each adapted to one of the flues and which is divided into separate sections by one or more separating separating elements each with two opposite walls of the lining and with an upper surface of a partition wall between two smoke pipes.

Various embodiments of the subject of the invention will be described below, by way of example, with reference to the accompanying drawing,
  • fig. 1 is a sectional view along line II of FIG. 2 showing a first embodiment of the chimney cap,
  • fig. 2 is a sectional view along line II-II of FIG. 1,
  • fig. 3 is a perspective view of the first embodiment and
  • fig. 4 is a partially cutaway perspective view showing a second embodiment of the object of the invention.

In general, the chimney breast is made by means of flat sheet metal segments. Preferably, it will be made of copper. All the elements of the cape are connected to each other, in principle by welding and the rigid block in one piece that forms the cape, is fixed to a frame by means of hinges, so that it can be overturned to free the smoke pipes which are built in masonry.

1, we can see the upper end of a masonry chimney 1 which includes two square section smoke ducts 2 and 3. Between these two smoke ducts extends a wall 4 whose upper face 5 extends at the same level than the upper face 6 of the main wall of the chimney 1.

2.The chimney cap proper 7 consists of an outer lining 8 in the form of a pyramid trunk, an upper element 9, two lower elements 10 and 11, of tubular shape, each adapted to one of the conduits 2 and 3 and two separation elements 12 and 13 which, in this embodiment, are moreover confused with one of the walls of each of the lower elements 10 and 11. These different elements are connected to each other by plane flanges, of triangular shape, 14, by the junction between the separation plates 12 and 13 and the sides of the outer trim 8, and by uprights 15, located at the four corners of the upper rectangular plate 9. The uprights connect the element 9 with the upper edge of the outer trim 8. In fig. 2, we see the plan shape of the element 12, the rectilinear and horizontal upper edge of which is welded transversely under the upper plate 9. In the axis of each of the smoke ducts 2 and 3, provision is made under the upper plate 9, a pyramid-shaped boss 18, formed of four sheet metal segments cut into a triangle and welded to each other. The bosses 18 avoid swirls under the plate 9. In FIG. 2, we can also see the longitudinal sections of the outer lining 8 and we see that this lining defines, by its upper and lower edges, with the lower elements 10 or 11 and the upper element 9, passages through which the mixtures air, gas and smoke which rise in the conduits 2 or 3 can escape according to the arrows shown in fig. 2.

A frame 16 is fixed on the upper face of the chimney 1. It is fitted with hinges 17 which make it possible to reverse the lining in one piece along one of the long sides of the chimney 1 during the sweeping operations.

The chimney cap 20 shown in FIG. 4 is arranged to equip a chimney 21 which comprises four smoke ducts 22. The cap 20 comprises, for each duct 22, a lower element 23, of tubular shape and of square section, adapted to the duct. These lower elements are distinct from the separation elements which, in this case, are three in number and designated by 24. The separation elements 24 are sheet metal plates whose shape in plan corresponds to that of elements 12 and 13 of the first embodiment but which are arranged so that their lower edge rests in the middle of the upper face of each of the three partition walls 25 separating the smoke ducts 22. The cap 20 comprises an outer lining 26 formed of two segments of longitudinal sheet and two transverse sheet segments, all these segments being planar and being cut and welded so as to give the lining the shape of a pyramid trunk. Flanges 27 and the edges of the separating elements 24 connect the external lining to the various lower elements. The cape further comprises an upper element 28 formed by a flat cover plate disposed above the upper edge of the lining 26 and connected to the latter by intermediate uprights 29 as well as by the edges of the separation elements 24.

The cape in one piece, shown in fig. 4, is also connected to the frame 30, which is fixed to the upper wall of the chimney 21, by hinges (not shown). Note that in this case, the upper plate 28 is not provided with bosses projecting downwards, but, if necessary, such bosses could also be provided as in the first embodiment. It will also be noted that instead of being in one piece, the cap 20 could be divided into two separate parts, the separating element 24 then being split and constituting an extreme partition of each of the two parts of the cap 20 .

The arrangement described has the advantage of being simple in construction while being effective. The upper end of each element 23 opens into a space which is open, depending on the case, on two, three or all four sides and which communicates with the passages provided on either side of the external lining. In addition, the separating elements 12, 13 or 24 prevent, whatever the direction of the wind, that the smoke and the gases leaving one of the conduits can penetrate into another.

Finally, the assembly and maintenance of the chimney breast and the chimney on which it is mounted are also simplified.
