Abstract

The cover has a covering body (2) which extends without interruption over a circumferential surface (4) of the object (1) and consists at least partially of shrink film which is prestretched in the circumferential direction. <??>The intention is to achieve simple handling during opening and less manufacturing expenditure whilst maintaining unreduced cohesion strength of the covering body. Provided at least on one film edge (5a) is a pair of preformed intended tearing regions (7) which engage in the edge region (6a) of the film edge, are limited to this edge region in their engagement depth and are arranged with mutual spacing in the circumferential direction of the wrapped object (1). Said intended tearing regions have a reduced tearing and/or separation strength compared to the adjacent film regions. <IMAGE>

Description

The invention relates to a film covering for hard objects, such as bottles, cans or the like. According to the preamble of patent claim 1.

Foil wrappers of the aforementioned type are known from widespread and thus obvious use. In many cases, the wrapper covers the closure or a prepared opening point of the goods package and thus also serves to protect the contents of the package, which is important for the consumer. Without any special precautions, the opening of the packaging necessary to open the wrapping is complicated and even difficult because of the generally considerable tear and separation strength of the wrapping film. It is therefore common practice to insert tear threads or tear tapes into the covering. This is at the mass production of such casings involves considerable effort. In addition, the rapid finding and gripping of the handling section of such tear-open elements is comparatively cumbersome, if not longer handling sections which emerge from the casing and are therefore mostly undesirable for aesthetic reasons are provided. The perforations that are also common as opening aids and are known, for example, from DE-A1-28 04 851 or DE-A1-20 54 325, can be produced over the entire envelope with comparatively little effort, but in particular with regard to the tension state of the shrink-wrapped film with an often undesirable weakening of the cohesion of the casing. Finding the extremely narrow crack location and making the crack by hand is also cumbersome, at least without additional measures.

The object of the invention is therefore to provide a film wrapping which, with essentially undiminished cohesive strength, is distinguished by simple handling when opened and by low manufacturing outlay. The solution to this problem according to the invention is determined in a casing of the type mentioned at the outset by the features specified in the characterizing part of patent claim 1.

The arrangement of tearing aids (incisions, Cutouts, weak spots) offers the desired advantage of low manufacturing costs and, as detailed studies have shown, surprisingly enables a plastic film based on polystyrene to be used, surprisingly, even without weakening the film across the width of the envelope body, which can be carried out by hand with little effort and is safe and complete Separation process. What is essential for this is the anisotropy generated by pre-stretching the film in the circumferential direction, which generally results in an increase in the tear propagation strength parallel to the direction of stretching, but a decrease in it transverse to the direction of stretching, ie in the direction of the intended crack propagation. It goes without saying that a suitable selection within the available film materials is necessary in order to rule out excessively high tear resistance values.

In the case of the goods packaging according to FIG. 1, a sleeve-shaped package body 1 is enclosed in an envelope body 2 consisting of a shrink film and extending over the peripheral surface 4 of the package body. The film of the enveloping body is stretched in the circumferential direction of the packing body 1 according to arrow P. Such a stretching direction results e.g. in the production of the enveloping body from a film web stretched in its longitudinal direction, which extends in the circumferential direction of the wrapped object and is closed in a known manner, not shown here, at the butt joints extending in the axial direction by welding or gluing.

The enveloping body 2 encompasses the peripheral edges 1b of the end faces 1a of the packing body with film edge edge sections 6a on both sides. The upper film edge edge section 6a visible in FIG. 1 is provided with two notches 7 arranged at a small mutual circumferential spacing, which extend from the film edge 5a and at an angle — here essentially at right angles — radially into the edge region 6a and further run around the edge 1b, but are limited to the edge region 6aa directly adjoining this edge.

Between the incisions 7, one emerges from the film surface under the effect of the film tension Handling section that can be comfortably gripped by hand. A comparatively slight pull upwards or outwards and favored by the inherent tension of the film according to arrow P form 4 progressive tear lines R in the envelope within the unimpaired film areas on the circumferential surface, which experience has shown that they maintain their axially parallel starting direction determined by the incisions 7 and become one complete separation of the envelope.

Since the film edge 5a is easily accessible in the end region of the package body and - also under the effect of the internal stress - usually slightly rises from the end surface of the package body, shorter incisions 8, which do not encompass the peripheral edge 1b, can be provided, as shown in FIG Manufacturing particularly simplified.

If a lifting handling section is to be dispensed with, weak points 10 can advantageously be provided according to FIG. 3, which are designed as notches and maintain the cohesion of the edge area 6a of the film edge. However, short gates 10a can be introduced on the film edge 5a without significant additional effort, to which notch groove sections 10b encompassing the edges are connected.

In the embodiment according to FIG. 4, the film edge 5b lies with the adjacent edge area 6b of a cylindrical one Envelope body 3 on the peripheral surface 4 of the same. Here, when the tear-open aids are formed as incisions 9, the inherent tension of the film generally leads to a striking lifting of the handling section H, as has been shown in the experience, without continuous weak points in the envelope body, tear lines R.

In the embodiment according to FIG. 5, the tear-open aids are designed as rows of perforations 11 limited to the edge area 6b of the film edge, which in turn maintains the cohesion of the edge 5b of the film. This allows the formation of a handling section H1 protruding from the peripheral surface 4 of the packing body 1 in the form of a rounded bulge in the edge area 6b of the film edge. This results in particularly convenient handling. Such a film bulge can be produced in the production of the film web by a comparatively simple pressing process. If necessary, short gates 11a, which do not significantly impair the cohesion of the film edge, can also be provided here, which facilitate scribing in the case of thicker films.

In the embodiments according to FIGS. 6 and 7, cylindrical enveloping bodies 3 are again provided, but with triangular cutouts 12 and 13 and sharp-edged inner edges 12a and 13a as tearing aids. This design offers certain manufacturing advantages and serves in the case of Design according to Figure 6 to form a uniformly protruding handling section H2 of pleasing outline shape.

In the embodiment according to FIG. 7, a thread-like tear-open element 14 is formed between the closely adjacent cutouts 13, and without any additional effort in the form of the longitudinal weld seam of the enveloping body, which is already present. Particularly in the case of the known closing of the casing by means of separation welding from a continuous sheet of film, suitable seam bodies result for this purpose, on both sides of which the continuous tear lines R are formed without further precautions. Between the cutouts 13 there is also a protruding section 14a of the seam body, which is a convenient handle for the formation of cracks.
