Definitions

  • the invention relates to a cartridge according to the preamble of claim 1.
  • a cartridge is known from US-A-3 815 791.
  • Cartridges of this type are used for storing and for expressing pasty materials, such as, for example, adhesive or sealing compounds made of silicone material.
  • the known cartridges consist of a tubular container which has a threaded connection for a nozzle at the front end. The rear end is closed by a piston which can be displaced in the cartridge tube.
  • a piston which can be displaced in the cartridge tube.
  • the piston consists of an injection molded part made of plastic. Such plastic parts are not sufficiently diffusion-tight to prevent the pasty mass from reacting with air or moisture in the long term. In particular, there is a risk that part of the mass surrounds the piston circumference in a thin layer that hardens and sticks the piston to the inner wall of the cartridge. This bond can be so strong that it can not be overcome by the manual or compressed air operated ejection tool.
  • a cartridge which is closed behind the piston by a sealing cover (US Pat. No. 3,815,791).
  • the cover has a bottom that tears off under the effect of the pressure stamp and lies between the pressure stamp and the piston.
  • a double-walled container which consists of an inner container and an outer container.
  • the inner container has a guide piece which is connected to a closure cap of the outer container and which contains the piston for pressing out the material from the inner container.
  • This piston can be pushed out of the guide piece into the inner container. It also forms the closure part, which seals the receiving space of the inner container.
  • This well-known double container is very complex. If the space containing the mass to be expressed is closed with a cover, this cover is punched out and then advanced together with the piston. The part torn off the cover gets into the material to be pressed out.
  • a known cartridge, from which the preamble of claim 1 is based (US-A-3 503 542), has a diffusion-tight film which surrounds the piston on its end wall and on its peripheral wall.
  • the film consisting of a flat material forms folds which are filled by the pasty mass, so that the film adheres to the cartridge wall.
  • the plunger which is separated from the pasty mass by the film, is pushed forward, the film tears.
  • Part of this film is advanced by the piston in an undefined manner. This torn-off film part can get to the side of the piston and deform it along the entire displacement path and impair its tightness.
  • the invention has for its object to construct a cartridge so that no torn parts of the lid or other closure are advanced by the piston.
  • the piston is separated from the container before use of the cartridge, while the rear end of the container is closed by a diffusion-tight cover.
  • This cover can be removed or destroyed before use, only to then push the piston into the container.
  • the insertion is made possible by the guide device which moves the piston in when it moves forward axial alignment to the container holds.
  • the lid Before using the cartridge, the lid is accessible from the outside while the plunger is still separated from the container. It is not possible to stick the piston to the container wall because the piston is not in contact with the container or the pasty mass. Only after removing or destroying the lid does the piston come into contact with the pasty mass. If the lid is destroyed either by the guide device or by the piston, the lid parts remain at the rear end of the container, where they are attached.
  • the cover parts can therefore only affect the piston seal over a limited length of the displacement path of the piston.
  • the cover is preferably removable or breakable, so that no cover parts remain in the region of the piston travel and the piston is not deformed by them at all.
  • the cartridge is in two parts.
  • the container which contains the pasty mass
  • the tubular guide piece which contains the plunger before use of the cartridge and is attached to the rear end of the container before use.
  • the container can be filled to the brim or almost to its rear edge with mass.
  • the rear guide piece which contains the piston, is completely free of the mass. Only the containers are filled with pasty mass in the filling system, while the separately produced guide pieces with the piston inserted later.
  • the invention further relates to an ejection tool for the cartridge. While the known ejection tools are designed so that the cartridge is inserted into them together with the piston contained therein, in the ejection tool according to the invention, in addition to the cartridge holder, a piston bearing is provided, into which the piston can be inserted and from which it moves from the pressure stamp into the Cartridge is movable. The cartridge and piston are therefore inserted separately into the ejection tool, the cover closing the rear cartridge opening either being removed beforehand or being destroyed when the piston is advanced. It is important that the piston bearing runs in a precise axial alignment with the cartridge; so that the plunger propelled by the plunger is securely inserted into the cartridges.
  • the cartridges shown are used to hold and squeeze out a pasty mass, e.g. a silicone glue or sealant.
  • the cartridge 10 of the embodiment of FIGS. 1 to 3 has an elongated cylindrical container 11 which contains the pasty mass 12. At the front end of the cylindrical container 11 there is a hollow threaded connector 13 which projects axially and is closed at its front end. The front end can be separated from the container in order to express the mass 12, a truncated cone-shaped nozzle being screwed onto the threaded connector 13.
  • the interior of the container 11 is cylindrical and its diameter is equal to that of the opening at the rear end of the container.
  • the container 11 can consist of metal, coated cardboard or preferably of plastic.
  • At the rear end of the container there is a bead 14 which surrounds the container opening and projects radially outwards.
  • the container opening is closed with a lid 15, which is sealed to the rear end of the container or is sealingly connected in some other way to this end of the container.
  • the lid 15 through Peel off.
  • the lid 15 consists of a vapor-impermeable material, for example a metal foil or a metal plate or a multilayer material which has a metal foil, for example aluminum.
  • the container 11 is filled to the brim with the pasty mass 12, ie the pasty mass fills the container without any void and its rear end is delimited by the cover 15 without any void.
  • the cartridge 10 also includes the tubular guide piece 16, the front end of which can be pushed onto the rear end of the container.
  • the guide piece 16 has a circumferential annular bead 17 which covers the bead 14 of the container 11 in the assembled state of the guide piece 16 and thus centers the guide piece 16 on the container 11 and secures it against axial displacement.
  • a tubular guide area 18 which is elastic and temporarily widens when pushed over the bead 14 in order to subsequently surround the container 11 closely.
  • the piston 19 is arranged in the interior of the tubular guide piece 16.
  • the area of the guide piece 16 lying behind the bead 17 has the same diameter as the interior of the container 12, so that the piston 19 can be pushed out of the guide piece 16 into the container 11 in the assembled state shown in FIG. 3.
  • the guide piece 16 is supported on the rear end of the container 11.
  • the front part 18 of the guide piece 16 has a larger diameter than the area lying behind the bead 17.
  • the piston 19 is designed in a known manner as a hollow piston.
  • the piston has an outwardly curved end wall 19a and an adjoining cylindrical peripheral wall 19b and is open at its rear end. Circumferential sealing lips 19c are arranged on the peripheral wall 19b.
  • a frustoconical rib 19d protrudes into the interior of the piston from the transition from the end wall 19a to the cylindrical region 19b.
  • the plate 20a of the pressure plunger 20 of the ejection tool 21 abuts against this rib in order to advance the piston 19 to eject the pasty mass 12.
  • the ejection tool 21 is designed in the usual way as a pistol and it has an elongated cartridge holder 22 into which the cartridge 10 is inserted.
  • an abutment 23 is arranged for axially supporting the front end of the cartridge 10.
  • the plunger 20 is advanced by a certain amount.
  • a release lever 24a allows the plunger 20 to be retracted when actuated so that the cartridge can be removed from the ejection tool.
  • the guide piece 16 with the piston 19 contained therein is separated from the container 11.
  • the guide piece 16 is pushed onto the rear end of the container, where it engages.
  • the cartridge 10 assembled in this way is inserted into the cartridge bearing 22 of the ejection tool 21 according to FIG. 2.
  • the trigger lever 24 is then actuated, as a result of which the plate 20a of the pressure plunger 20 is moved into the piston 19.
  • the piston 19 comes into contact with the pasty mass 12 in order to drive this mass out of the container 11. Because the piston inside the guide piece 16 is not in contact with the mass, it cannot stick.
  • the diffusion-tight cover 15 ensures that the mass cannot harden before the container is opened.
  • a push-out tool has been described in which the cartridge bearing 22 has a trough-shaped design, so that the cartridge 10 can be inserted into the cartridge bearing from above.
  • An ejection tool with a tubular cartridge bearing into which the cartridge is inserted axially can also be used.
  • Fig. 4 shows an embodiment in which a crimp cover 25 made of metal is provided instead of the flexible cover 15.
  • a radially projecting flange 26 is provided, against which the lid 25 is placed.
  • the edge 25a of the cover 25 is crimped around the flange 26.
  • the area of the cover 25 which bears against the end face of the flange 26 is provided with an annular seal 27, so that the cover closure hermetically seals.
  • the central region of the cover 25 is slightly recessed so that it lies against the mass 12 without any voids.
  • the flanged edge 25a can be bent back or torn off.
  • a line of weakness is provided which enables the flanged edge 25a to be torn off the cover 25.
  • the container 11 is provided at its rear end with an external thread 30, onto which a threaded connector 31 provided on the guide piece 16 is screwed with an internal thread in order to fasten the guide piece 16 to the container 12.
  • the interior of the guide piece 16 adjoins that of the container 11 without changing the diameter. 5
  • the cover with which the container 11 was originally closed has already been removed before the guide piece 16 has been screwed onto the container 11.
  • vent holes 32 are provided on the guide piece 16 according to FIG. 5. These bores are arranged with such an axial distance behind the end of the mass 12 that they are not closed by the mass when the piston 19 penetrates the mass and this initially evades laterally and backwards. The vent holes are reached by the retreating mass and the peripheral wall of the piston at about the same time so that all air can escape. Corresponding venting options are also available in the other exemplary embodiments, although they are not described in detail there.
  • a connecting sleeve 33 is provided which has an internal thread 34 in the rear area, into which an external thread 35 of the guide piece 16 is screwed.
  • the connecting sleeve 33 is at the front End provided with a radially resilient area 36 which can be pushed over the bead 14 of the container 10. Behind the elastic region 36 there is a groove 37 in which the bead 14 is locked in place.
  • Fig. 7 shows a variant in which the guide piece 16 is an integral part of the removal tool 21.
  • the piston 19 is inserted from the front end into the guide piece 16, into which the plunger 20 protrudes from the rear end. Then the container 10, after its cover has been removed, is fastened with a thread 40 to the front end of the guide piece 16.
  • the guide piece 16 forms a piston bearing 41, which is part of the removal tool and into which a piston 19 is inserted before the container 11 is attached.
  • FIG. 8 and 9 show an example in which the cover 45 closing the container has an axial extension 46 which projects into the container 11 over a certain distance and fills the rear part thereof.
  • the rear end region 47 which is free of mass 12, forms the guide device for inserting the piston 19 into the container 11.
  • a bead or ring flange on the container 11 is not necessary.
  • the container 11 can therefore have a cylindrical outer surface or radially protruding parts.
  • 9 is a tube which surrounds the container 11 at a close distance.
  • the rear end of the cartridge bearing 22 ⁇ is designed as a piston bearing 41, which receives the piston 19 in axial alignment with the container 11.
  • the piston 19 can be inserted through a radial opening of the piston bearing 41, wherein it lies between the pressure stamp 20 and the rear end of the container 11 and is inserted into the rear region 47 of the container 11 when the pressure stamp 20 is pushed forward.
  • a guide piece 16 is again provided, which is pushed onto the rear end of the container 11 filled to the brim.
  • the guide piece 16, in which the piston 19 is arranged, has a union sleeve 48 which is loosely placed over the rear end of the container, the guide piece 16 being axially supported on the container 11. It is not necessary to secure the guide piece 16 from being pulled off the container 11 since no forces are exerted when the removal tool is used, which tends to pull the guide piece 16 away from the container 11.
  • the container 11 has a cylindrical outer surface with no protruding parts.
  • FIG. 11 A further variant is shown in FIG. 11.
  • the guide piece 16, which contains the piston 19 is provided with an annular projection 50 projecting into the interior of the container 11, which protrudes closely against the inner wall of the container 11 and the wall thickness thereof steadily reduced towards the front end, so that the inner wall of the extension 50 continuously merges with that of the container 11.
  • the extension 50 forms a constriction through which the piston 19 is located Deformation must be pushed through.
  • the circumferential surfaces of the container 11 and the guide piece 16 adjoin one another flush, without any protruding parts, so that the cartridge 10 has an outer contour which is cylindrical over the entire length.
  • the sharp front edge of the extension 50 can be used to cut the cover made of film material when the guide piece 16 is pushed onto the container 11.
  • the front edge of the guide piece 16 can be chamfered, so that when the guide piece is inserted, the separation process begins at one point and continues when it is inserted further.
  • the cover can also be designed such that it does not have to be removed or destroyed before the piston is inserted into the container.
  • the lid can also be pierced by a mandrel provided at the front end of the piston and tear open, the remnants of the lid then remaining at the rear end of the container and not being pushed in front of the piston.
