Definitions
- the present invention relates to a device for fixing the edge of a stretched sheet applicable in particular to the fixing of the lower edge of a tent fabric of a light shelter of general pyramidal shape, as well as a light shelter of this type provided with 'Such a device for fixing its fabric.
- Light shelters which include a metal support structure on which a tent fabric of general pyramidal shape is fixed and stretched.
- the base of the pyramid that constitutes the stretched canvas is generally fixed to the structure by means of a lacing member passing through eyelets fixed on the lower edge of the canvas and attached to the metal structure forming a support.
- Such a method of attachment obviously has the disadvantage of ensuring attachment only at spaced points, which affects the strength of the interlining.
- device comprises a horizontal profile having a groove opening into one of its vertical faces, through an inlet slot of width less than that of the bottom of the groove and a locking ring which can be engaged transversely in the groove, through its entry slot and be immobilized there to retain the edge of the sheet having a bead.
- the entry slot of the profile groove is delimited by a first upper lip of small height and a second lower lip of high height, these two lips thus delimiting behind them and on either side of the entry slot respectively, on the side of the first upper lip, a first groove of small depth and on the side of the second lower lip a second groove of great depth.
- the locking ring has a thickness less than the width of the entry slot to allow its introduction into the groove. It has a rib which is wedged in the locking position in the first groove, the ply and the bead then being wedged in the second groove and the locking rod extends between the bead and the ply, housed in the second grooves, on the one hand and the first groove on the other hand.
- the locking ring which is introduced into the groove of the profile in the horizontal position and which remains in this position when it is in the locking position, is then supported by the upper part of its external face, against the internal face of the upper lip throat, but in abutment, by a flat face opposite this face, against the upper face of the lower lip, by means of the locked ply.
- Such a device for fixing a fabric if it has the advantage of being able to be implemented conveniently because the fabric is introduced transversely into the groove of the profile, is however not suitable for applications in which the fabric is subjected to very high tension stresses as is the case of a tent of a light shelter commonly constructed. When pulling strongly on the locked ply, this effort can cause the ply and the rod to tear out of the profile
- the present invention aims to remedy these drawbacks by providing a fixing device of particularly simple design and capable of withstanding very intense forces.
- this device is characterized in that in the locking position, the locking rod is in the vertical position, at right angles to its position. of introduction into the groove, the first upper groove is connected to an inner curved face of the groove serving as a guide for the locking rod to rotate it between its horizontal position of introduction into the groove and its vertical locking position, and the locking rod is wedged, in the vertical locking position, against the lower lip by a rounded lower part, connecting the internal and external faces of the rod, so that a tensile force exerted on the ply outwards, does not allow the bead to escape from the throat.
- Figures 1 to 3 are partial perspective views and in vertical section of a device for fixing the edge of a fabric according to the invention, respectively in the locked position, in the intermediate position between the locked position and the position unlocking position.
- Figure 4 is a partial vertical and cross sectional view, on a larger scale, of the groove and the locking rod, in the locking position.
- Figure 5 is a view similar to Figure 4 of a another embodiment of the locking ring.
- Figure 6 is a perspective view of a light shelter using a device for fixing the edge of a fabric according to the invention.
- Figure 7 is a cross-sectional view of an alternative embodiment of a profile forming part of the device for fixing the edge of a fabric according to the invention.
- the device for fixing the edge of a fabric which is shown in Figures 1 to 4, comprises a fixed profile 1, made of light alloy, of substantially rectangular cross section, solid or hollow, which has, in its large external vertical face, a horizontal and longitudinal groove 2, with curved cross section and lying down.
- This groove is delimited between two upper vertical external faces 1a and lower 1b offset horizontally with respect to each other. the lower vertical face being situated more towards the outside with respect to the upper vertical face 1b.
- the groove 2 is intended to receive and immobilize an edge 3 of a stretched sheet 4 which can be, for example, a tent of a light shelter.
- the edge 3 of the ply consists of a bead produced by folding the ply 4 back on itself, so as to enclose a flexible rod 5.
- This flexible rod 5 can be constituted by a cable of plastic wires housed in an external sheath , or by a solid plastic rod.
- the bead 3 constituting the edge of the ply is kept immobilized in the groove 2 by a semi-rigid locking rod 6 which can be produced for example from extruded polyvinyl chloride
- the groove 2 in which the bead 3 is housed opens to the outside, at its upper lateral part, by a longitudinal slot of width smaller than the width of the bottom of the groove 2.
- This inlet slot of the groove 2 is delimited between an upper lip 7 of small height and a lower lip 8 of great height which are formed in the profile 1 during the extrusion thereof
- the upper lip 7 of small height ends in a lower front face 7a and behind this upper lip 7 extends a first longitudinal groove 9 of shallow depth.
- the face 7a and the groove 9 form a first internal step 9a.
- This groove 9 is connected to a curved face 2a, with an outwardly concavity, which constitutes the upper part of the bottom of the groove 2, and it extends downwards by a plane face 2b which is substantially vertical.
- This vertical flat face 2b is connected to a lower face 2c of the groove 2 which is itself connected to the internal face of the large lower lip 8 extending upwards.
- the vertical flat face 2b, the lower face 2c and the inner face of the large lower lip 8 define a second groove 10 of great depth intended to receive the bead 3.
- the semi-rigid locking ring 6 has a cross section having a shape complementary to that of the upper part of the groove 2.
- it comprises a planar external face 6a which is coplanar with the upper external face 1a of the profile 1 in position of locking (FIG. 1), then an upper horizontal front face 6b, bearing against the front face 7a of the small upper lip 7, then a rib 6c engaging in the first groove 9, then a curved internal face 6d substantially matching the shape of the curved face 2a of the groove 2 and finally a rounded lower face 6e connecting the external 6a and internal 6d faces.
- the height of the external face 6a of the locking rod 6 is slightly less than the width of the groove inlet slot 2 so that in the locking position (FIG. 1) this external face 6a does not completely close the groove entry slot 2. Only a small passage remains in the lower part, between the locking ring 6 and the large lower lip 8, a passage through which extends the ply 4 which has, at this point, a double thickness due to the formation of the bead 3 constituting its border. Furthermore, the total height between the rib 6c and the lower face 6e of the locking ring is greater than the width of the groove entry slot.
- the ply 4 extends outside the profile then downwards passing over the rounded upper edge 8a of the lower lip 8.
- the ply 4 is thus deviated substantially by 90 ° and it extends downwards both outside the profile 1 and inside the groove 2.
- the bead 3 is located, in the locked position (figure 1), in the second groove 10, under the locking rod 6 which is in a vertical position, at right angles to its position of introduction into the groove 2. In this position its external face 6a is aligned with the external face upper 1a of profile 1, its upper rib 6c is engaged in the first groove 9 of the groove 2 and its curved internal face 6d is also in the vertical position.
- the lower face 6e of the locking ring 6 is then slightly lower than the upper edge 8a of the lower lip 8. If the ply 4 is subjected to a significant tensile force directed downwards, as illustrated by arrow f in FIG. 1, this force is transmitted to the bead 3 housed in the second groove 10 of the groove 2 and this bead 3 is pulled up and outwards according to arrow f1. It is however prevented from leaving the groove 2 because it is wedged between the lower face 6e of the locking ring 6 and the lower lip 8. The locking ring 6 is in turn urged upward by the bead 3 and it is applied against the small upper lip 7 delimiting the first groove 9 by exerting on them a force f2.
- FIG. 2 illustrates the intermediate positions occupied by the unlocking rod 6 and the bead 3 during the fixing of the fabric 4 or the release of this fabric.
- the fabric 4 then being relaxed the bead 3 which is free in the second lower groove 10 of the groove 2, must be slightly lowered in this groove 10 to allow the release of the locking ring 6.
- the depth of the groove 10 must be sufficient to allow this movement.
- Lock ring 6, after being slightly lowered to disengage its rib 6c from the first groove 9, is slightly turned on itself, so as to bring its upper rib 6c into the inlet slot of the groove 2 and then outside of the latter. From this moment a tensile force exerted towards the outside makes it possible to completely extract the locking rod 6 from the groove 2 as illustrated in FIG. 3.
- the maximum thickness of the rod 6, that is to say the thickness of its lower part 6e must be less than the width of the inlet slot of the groove 2.
- the operation of fixing the ply 4 on the profile 1 is also very easy. It suffices first of all to transversely engage the ply 4 and the bead 3, through the entry slot, in the groove 2, as shown in FIG. 3, then to engage the locking ring 6 in this same groove 2, through the entry slot, above the bead 3, first presenting its lower face 6e of great thickness, alos in vertical position.
- the locking rod 6 is then gradually pushed back into the groove 2, all along the profile 1, in the horizontal direction, that is to say perpendicular to the external face 1 a of the profile 1.
- the locking rod 6 extends then horizontally, that is to say perpendicular to its locking position in the groove 2.
- the locking rod 6 is engaged horizontally until its lower face 6e ..
- the locking ring 6 is, in the locking position, in support, by the upper part of its external face 6a, against the internal face of the upper lip 7 and it is in abutment, by the lower part of this same external face 6a, against the internal face of the lower lip 8 of the groove 2.
- the locking ring 6 comprises a second step 13 following the first step 9a and projecting on the outside of the groove 2.
- FIG. 6 illustrates the application of the device according to the invention to the fixing of a tent canvas 4 of a light shelter of general pyramidal shape with four sides.
- the profiles 1 form a horizontal base square supported by a frame made up of posts 11 and the profiles 1 have their grooves 2 open towards the outside.
- the fixing of the beads 3 constituting the lower edges of the four sides of the fabric 4 is effected by engagement of the locking rods 6, as described above, in the grooves of the profiles 1.
- the section 12 of tubular shape has four grooves 2 distributed in two pairs in two opposite lateral faces.
- the grooves 2 are symmetrical with respect to each other to the two longitudinal planes of symmetry P and P1, perpendicular to each other, of the profile.
- the profile 12 can therefore secure the edges 3 of two coplanar sheets 4, these edges 3 being kept locked, by locking rods 6, in the two grooves 2 provided in the same lateral face of the profile 12.
