Definitions
- the present invention relates to a method for improving the stability of masts made of chemically or microbiologically vulnerable materials, in which the masts are wrapped in the vicinity of the ground contact point with a bandage consisting of a fiber mat, which is impregnated with a hardening moisture-resistant plastic, the Fiber mat consists of a fabric made of glass, nylon or Perlon, and the curing moisture-resistant plastic consists of a two-component system. It is suitable for improving the stability of light and signal masts, masts for traffic or information signs, line masts for the transmission of energy or messages, such as power poles, telephone or telegraph poles and the like.
- masts In order to improve the stability of masts, it has hitherto been customary to provide the masts with a protective coating which, in the case of masts made of iron or steel, consists of a corrosion-preventing material and, in the case of wooden masts, for example, from an anti-rot material.
- a protective coating which, in the case of masts made of iron or steel, consists of a corrosion-preventing material and, in the case of wooden masts, for example, from an anti-rot material.
- corrosion or putrefaction can be observed in particular at the point of contact with the ground, but also within the ground, as a result of which the stability of the masts is impaired. Once the masts have been attacked, further corrosion or putrefaction can only be removed with great effort, so that the masts generally need to be replaced.
- a method for improving the stability of masts is already known from EP-A-0 173 446, the masts being wrapped in the vicinity of the ground contact point with a bandage consisting of a fiber mat which is impregnated with a hardening moisture-resistant plastic, the Fiber mat consists of a fabric made of glass, nylon or Perlon, and the hardening plastic consists of a two-component system.
- the object of the present invention is to provide a method with which both new and already existing masts can be renovated, so that their stability, in particular against mechanical influences, is significantly improved.
- the method according to the invention is suitable for all masts that can be damaged by chemical or microbiological environmental influences, for example by corrosion of metal masts, e.g. B. of iron or steel, or by rotting, fungal growth and the like. In wooden masts.
- the method is suitable for the treatment of new masts which are to be introduced into the ground, but also for the treatment of masts which are already in the ground, where it is only necessary to lift the ground to the depth required for the treatment, in general is less than about 1 m.
- the stability of masts can be considerably improved by the method according to the invention. It has been shown that existing masts which were considerably damaged by corrosion or putrefaction could be improved in their stability by the method according to the invention to such an extent that they reached or even exceeded the stability of new masts. In many cases, this means that there is no need to renew masts, which means considerable savings.
- the masts are first provided with a chemically or micropassivating protective coating of red lead, zinc chromate, zinc phosphate or zinc dust paint.
- the masts are placed in the vicinity of the ground contact point, i.e. H. in the vicinity of the line on which the mast protrudes from the ground or earth, wrapped with a bandage consisting of a fiber mat made of a fiber mesh. the width of which is approximately 3 to 30 cm, in particular approximately 10 to 30 cm and particularly preferably approximately 10 cm.
- the bandage is either wrapped round by turn or overlapping each other around the mast. The winding runs from bottom to top.
- an area on either side of the ground contact point of about 50 cm up and down, calculated from the ground contact point is wrapped with the bandage, preferably an area of about 30 cm up and down.
- the bandage is impregnated with a hardening water-resistant plastic made of coal tar pitch epoxy or polyurethane either before wrapping the mast or afterwards.
- the mast can be used on site or if the mast is already in its intended place, the previously partially exposed mast can be anchored in the ground again or filled with soil and compacted.
- the masts treated according to the invention have increased stability, especially after long periods of inactivity.
- the stability is determined as follows: First of all, ultrasound is used to determine how large the average material thickness of the mast is in its vulnerable area. A percentage is calculated from the thickness based on the original material thickness, which indicates the actual stability of less than 100%. A representative mast with this relative percentage is moved under defined conditions in the position used in the ground and the force applied is measured.
- the method according to the invention is used for another mast with the same reduced stability.
- the mast bandaged in this way is also moved (under defined conditions) and the force to be applied is determined. This force can sometimes be higher than the force required to move a newly installed mast with 100% stability.
- a mast consisting of tubular steel is coated with a protective coating of passivating corrosion protection. After the protective coating has dried, the mast is wrapped at the intended point of contact with the ground from up to 1.0 m from the lower end at a total height of 150 cm with a bandage consisting of a mat made of a glass fiber mesh with a basis weight of up to 250 g / m2 and a width of up to 20 cm.
- the bandage had been impregnated with coal tar pitch epoxy before wrapping, in an amount of up to 600 g / m 2.
- the mast had a stability of 100% after a service life of 5 years. while a comparison mast without a bandage, which was only provided with a protective coating, only showed a stability of 70% after the same service life.
- a conventional tubular steel mast which had already had a service life of 5 years, was coated with a protective coating of passivating corrosion protection after removing the external traces of corrosion provided and after drying the protective coating with the same bandage as in Example 1 wrapped in the same way. After a further service life of 5 years, the stability was 100%, while an untreated control mast only had a stability of 70%.
