Definitions

  • the invention relates to a folding wall for shower partitions or the like, according to the preamble of claim 1.
  • Such a folding wall is known from DE-PS 29 11 728 and has at least two wall elements that can be folded against each other so that they lie flat against each other. It is thus possible to surround a bathtub or shower tub with a multi-part folding wall when the shower is in use, which can also contain a foldable door. If this folding wall is not required, it is simply folded back against the wall in the manner of an accordion.
  • the known folding wall mentioned above has a folding joint, that connects two adjacent wall elements and has two mutually parallel hinge axes, one of which is fixed relative to an associated wall element and lies in the center plane thereof.
  • pivot pins aligned with the pivot axes are provided, which in turn are connected by a double-joint bracket which is designed as a flat part with two pivot eyes, the spacing of which corresponds to that of the two pivot pins when the two wall elements are laid flat next to one another.
  • each folding joint has a positive guide, which ensures that the angle formed between the double joint bracket and the respective wall element is approximately the same .
  • a toothing is arranged on the top and bottom of the folding joint in the known folding wall, which is formed from two gear wheels, each of which is non-rotatably attached to the associated wall element concentrically to one of the pivot axes. These gears mesh with each other and ensure that the two wall elements can be pivoted without any problems.
  • Edge strips are provided on the mutually facing edges of the wall elements, which have a groove into which a sealing tape is inserted, which bridges the gap between the two edge strips, in order to ensure that splash water does not pass through the gap between the individual wall elements from the shower to the outside penetrates.
  • the wall elements of the known folding wall can only be pivoted through 180 °, that is to say from a folded position into an expanded position in which the wall elements together form a flat folding wall.
  • the wall elements can also be pivoted through 360 ° or any other angle.
  • the advantage of pivoting through 360 ° is that pre-assembled folding walls can be supplied regardless of the local conditions. It is also possible to assemble without errors, while in the assembly of the known folding wall, the only possible tilting direction of the individual wall elements must always be taken into account.
  • the sealing tape of the known folding wall attached to the edge strips on both sides of the gap in the middle plane of the wall elements gives rise to problems, since the distance of the fastening points in the unfolded state is only the gap width and is therefore much smaller than in the folded state, where the distance is approximately the same the eye relief of the double joint bracket.
  • the sealing tape must therefore either be very stretchy or, as has been the case with the known folding wall, the one side of the gap must be widened to such an extent that when the folding wall is folded out, the sealing tape turned outwards engages in the widened gap.
  • This widened gap when folding the flat wall can lead to the person jamming his finger.
  • the invention has for its object to further develop the known folding wall mentioned in such a way that the construction waste and the risk of injury is reduced and the durability of the seal is improved.
  • the sealing tape does not extend over the entire length of the folding joint when the folding elements are unfolded in the central plane of the folding wall, but extends over at least one longitudinal section of the folding joint in a direction oblique to said central plane and also obliquely in at least a second longitudinal section, but in the opposite direction, so that the two (or more) sealing tapes, seen in the longitudinal direction of the folding joint, cross in mutually directions extend. Any transverse movement of a wall element out of the plane of the folding wall is therefore prevented because one of the two sealing tapes or a group of sealing tapes mounted in the same direction would always be subjected to tension in this case.
  • the sealing tapes are designed so that they do not yield to such a tensile load or not to a disruptive extent.
  • the sealing strip of a length section is unwound on the circular arc-shaped contour of the one edge strip, while it is wound on the circular arc-shaped contour of the other edge strip.
  • a folding wall which has edge strips with mutually facing, circular-arc-shaped contours is, however, already known from DE-B-2 648 987, specifically there from FIG. 5.
  • a recess is formed in each case facing one another each one of the widened side edges of a sealing tape.
  • This sealing tape extends between these widened side edges from the inside of one edge strip obliquely through the gap between this and the adjacent edge strip to the outside, but has in this area an S-shaped, exposed cross-section that the in the invention significant tensile load of the sealing tape due to its winding on one of the edge strips can not occur.
  • the positioning of the sealing tapes in the folding wall according to the invention determines the extent to which the two adjacent wall elements can be pivoted. So it is e.g. possible, by appropriate arrangement of the sealing tape only allow the pivoting of 180 °.
  • the sealing strips are each attached to the outside or inside of the edge strip, which is connected to the wall element, so that the sealing strips extend diagonally across the full extent of the gap between adjacent wall elements or edge strips. As a result, it is possible to pivot the two wall elements against each other over a full 360 °.
  • the sealing tape adjoining such a double-articulated lever is only relatively short, as seen in the longitudinal direction of the folding joint, so that the effective crossover of the sealing tapes in this area, which is effective in both directions of movement of the wall elements, is particularly effective in this area which ultimately also poses the greatest risk of deflection.
  • a total of only three sealing strips adjoining one another in the longitudinal direction of the folding joint are preferably provided, of which the two, each adjacent to a double joint lever, run in the same direction, while the third sealing strip, which extends almost over the entire length of the folding joint, runs in opposite directions to the first two.
  • a complete and reliable seal is provided over the practically entire length of the folding joint, with the sealing tape generally being always stretched, i.e. not, as in the case of the generic folding wall, having to be pressed into a specially widened gap and pressed together.
  • the center of the circular arc-shaped end contour of the edge strip lies on the associated swivel axis, while the two facing end surfaces of the two edge strips mentioned are just a distance apart from one another which corresponds to the thickness of the sealing strip.
  • the sealing tape thus never slides to any neighboring component, but is only ever wound up or unwound. This significantly improves its durability.
  • the folding joint further developed in the above manner has no outwardly open gap, which abruptly and pincer-like in size when swiveling adjacent wall elements, so that even when clumsily folding or unfolding the folding wall according to the invention, an injury or annoyance by pinching the fingers in the gaps impossible has become.
  • folding seals can be produced with simple manual means, which must have unusual dimensions, e.g. in the manufacture of folding walls for separating cabins in industrial plants, in which paint is sprayed on, for example, or similar work is carried out that makes it seem sensible to separate the workplace from the surroundings.
  • the sealing tape and the edge strips or those sections of edge strips to which the sealing tape is attached are formed in one piece, and although preferably made of an EPDM plastic, the sealing tape is designed as a film hinge, which connects the two edge strips or edge strip sections.
  • the element described above is designed as an extruded component, whereby according to a further, preferred embodiment, a different material can be selected for the sealing tape by coextrusion than for the adjacent edge strips or their sections, the additional being the sealing advantage arises that the material transition between the sealing tape and the adjacent edge strip took place gradually and no leakage is possible.
  • PU plastic is preferred as the material for the sealing tape, while a hard plastic, e.g., as the material for the strips co-extruded therewith in one piece.
  • PVC is particularly preferred.
  • an attachment strip together with the joint strip Has longitudinal guide arrangement, for example in the form of a dovetail guide, so that the two elements mentioned can be inserted into one another in the longitudinal direction and form the edge strip.
  • the edge strip or joint strip has an axial channel which runs coaxially with the respective pivot axis.
  • This axial channel forms the receptacle for a pivot pin, which brings about the pivoting movement of the double joint bracket.
  • the pivot pin can be formed in one piece with the double joint bracket and rotatably mounted in the axial channel; According to a preferred embodiment of the invention, however, the hinge pin sits non-rotatably in the axial channel and in turn forms the fixed axis for the pivotable mounting of the double joint bracket.
  • an end closure piece is provided according to a further embodiment of the invention, which is attached to the two ends of the edge strip and in turn has two eyes aligned with one another and with the respective pivot axis, which eyes are penetrated by a hinge pin.
  • the hinge pin preferably has knurling on its outer part, with which it engages in the outer one of the two eyes of the end closure piece and is thus fixed non-rotatably.
  • the double joint bracket is arranged between the two eyes and can be pivoted on the hinge pin. A compact arrangement is thus created which consists of only a few, simply shaped parts and has no protruding parts on which a user could possibly injure himself.
  • the double hinge bracket is rounded at both ends, as is the double hinge bracket of the known folding wall mentioned at the beginning.
  • the material of the end piece is extended between the two eyes receiving the hinge pin by cover cheeks so that only a very small space is created towards the double-jointed tab. The formation of a pinch-like gap is thus prevented.
  • the double joint bracket has an indentation on both sides in its central section, which is arranged in such a way that that when pivoting the double hinge plate, the above-mentioned cover trough engages so far in the indentation that it is possible for the adjacent wall elements to strike against one another without hindrance.
  • the wall elements should only be pivotable by 180 °, an indentation only on one side is sufficient.
  • the invention creates a very simple and permanent folding connection for the wall elements of a folding wall or folding door for shower or bathtub covers, with only a few cracks connected to an interior being formed, especially when the edge or joint strips are formed with the sealing tape, so that dirty water is prevented from entering internal parts of the folding wall.
  • the folding wall according to the invention is thus not only simple in construction and inexpensive to manufacture, and durable, robust and user-friendly because there is practically nowhere to get caught, but also hygienic, since the accumulation of dirty water in any interior is largely avoided.
  • the invention relates not only to the flat wall described above, but expressly to the folding joint arrangement described.
  • Fig. 1 the upper part of a folding joint is shown in an exploded view, which articulates two wall elements, not specified, with each other.
  • the unfolded position is shown, in which the two wall elements lie in the common plane of an erected folding wall.
  • Each of the wall elements is limited at the top by an upper bar 1, 1 ⁇ ; this top bar is formed from an extruded or extruded hollow profile open at the top and bottom with an undercut.
  • This hollow profile has an internal cavity with two laterally open channels 1a, 1b which extend in the longitudinal direction of the profile and which serve to receive a screw connection.
  • a groove open at the bottom with an undercut in which, for example, an acrylic glass pane or the like can be inserted.
  • an extension bar 2, 2 ⁇ which is also formed from an extruded or extruded bar and has a hollow profile.
  • This hollow profile has a closed interior 2a, 2a ⁇ , in which a laterally open channel 2b, 2b ⁇ is arranged, which extends in the longitudinal direction of the extension bar 2, 2 ⁇ and serves to receive a screw 5, 5 ⁇ .
  • the extension strip On its longitudinal edge facing the folding hinge, the extension strip has a groove 2c that is open with an undercut, while on the opposite side associated with the associated wall element there is also a groove 2d that is open with an undercut and that serves this purpose together with the groove of the upper strip 1 that is open at the bottom to record and hold a door or wall plate made of acrylic glass or the like.
  • the joint bar 6, 6 Gelenk of a hinge element 3 is inserted into the groove 2c; this hinge element 3 has only a relatively low height and is seated on a further hinge element 4, which has a substantially greater axial height (seen in the longitudinal extent of the folding hinge) than the hinge element 6 and extends close to the underside of the folding wall shown.
  • hinge elements 3, 4 are described in more detail with reference to FIGS. 2 and 3.
  • the joint strips 6, 6 ⁇ have a rail-like base, with which they are inserted into the undercut groove 2c of the extension strips 2, 2 ⁇ .
  • the hinge element 3 has two axial channels 3a, 3a ⁇ , which are open at the top.
  • the lower part of the end piece 8, 8 ⁇ is extended towards the respective adjacent end piece and downwards and forms two eyes 8b, 8c, 8b ', 8c', one above the other.
  • the two eyes 8b, 8c, 8b ', 8c' are connected on their side facing the associated wall element by means of a base-like foot 8d, 8d ⁇ , which fits into the undercut groove 2c of the respective extension bar 2, 2 ⁇ and against the correspondingly shaped foot of the top Hinge element 3 rests.
  • the hinge pins 7, 7 ⁇ which are inserted into the channels 3a, 3a ⁇ of the hinge element, also extend through the eyes 8b, 8c, 8b ⁇ , 8c ⁇ and are in the upper part of these eyes by means of a knurling arranged on the outside of the hinge pin 7, 7 ⁇ (not shown) held non-rotatably.
  • the hinge pins 7, 7 ⁇ are inserted so deep that they do not protrude from the bottom of the groove 8a, 8a ⁇ .
  • the lower end of the hinge pins 7, 7 ⁇ can be extended so far that it also extends into a channel in the lower hinge element 4 and this is also centered.
  • a double hinge plate 9 is inserted, which has two bores, which are penetrated with play and pivotably by the pin 7 or 7..
  • the double joint bracket 9 has an indentation 9c on both sides between its two eye-like ends, which in the completely folded state of the two wall elements only just touches the facing edge of the cover cheek 8e.
  • top strips 1, 1 ' are first screwed to these cover strips using screws which extend from the groove 2c of the cover strips 2, 2' in the dash-dotted direction.
  • the hinge elements 3, 4 are inserted into the groove 2c and the corresponding opposite groove until the position shown in the drawing is reached.

  • FIG. 3 a phase of assembly is shown in FIG. 3, in which the double-jointed tab is not yet installed.
  • the sealing strip 10 is designed as a film hinge connecting the two joint strips 6, 6 '.
  • each hinge element 3, 4 is formed in one piece, preferably by coextrusion in such a way that the hinge strips 6, 6 'are relatively stiff or hard, while the sealing strip 10 is formed from a relatively soft and resilient material, which, however, must not be too elastic, so that the precise function of the flat joint shown remains guaranteed.
  • the attachment strip 2 and the joint strip 6 together form an edge strip.
  • FIG. 4 shows a further embodiment of the end closure piece 8 in a view and a top view and in natural size. It differs from the embodiment of FIG. 1 in that the cover cheeks 8e have been dispensed with and a peg-shaped extension 8f is formed, which engages in the groove 2d when the connector 8 is attached to the end of the extension strip 2; the end piece is thus held not only by the engagement of the base-like foot in the groove 2c facing away from the wall element of the extension bar 2, but also by a further fitting engagement, so that it is ensured that the hole in the end piece 8 for the screw 5 is always on the channel 2b is aligned in the extension bar 2 and the groove 8a is aligned with the groove 1c.
  • the end end piece 8 of FIG. 4 has a surface 8g which merges flush with the lower surface of the upper eye 8b and, after assembly, bears against the end of the extension bar 2 which has just been cut off.

It is therefore not necessary to carry out any milling at the end of the attachment strip, but it is only necessary to cut the strip to length from an extruded piece. The assembly is particularly easy and efficient.
  • the upper, undercut flanks of the groove 8a in the end end piece 8 are provided with a recess above the screw hole for the screw 5 to allow the head of the screw 5 to pass through.
  • This screw is designed as a countersunk screw for the end closure piece 8 of FIG. 4 and the associated hole is countersunk accordingly, so that the assembled screw does not protrude into the groove 1c, 8a.
