Description

The invention relates to an automatically hydraulically adjusting valve tappet which is arranged in a guide bore of a cylinder head of an internal combustion engine and which consists of a cup-shaped housing which comprises a hollow cylindrical wall which is closed at one end by a bottom, against which a control cam is connected from the outside starts, and in which a concentric to the hollow cylindrical wall guide sleeve is arranged, which ends at its end facing away from the bottom in the center of a disc part, which merges with its outer circumference into the hollow cylindrical wall of the housing, and which guide sleeve with its other end in a distance from the ground, the actual hydraulic play compensation element being guided in a longitudinally displaceable manner in the guide sleeve.

Such valve lifters are known for example from US-PS 45 90 898. These essentially also meet the requirements placed on them. In connection with the development of increasingly powerful internal combustion engines that run at high speeds, the valve lifters are particularly required to have the lowest possible mass. This leads to constructions with ever smaller wall thicknesses, which leads to vibrations in the high-frequency accelerations and decelerations that occur during operation, which under unfavorable conditions can lead to fractures and complete destruction of the valve lifters. A particularly critical point is the guide sleeve, which is connected to the cylindrical wall of the cup housing only at one end via a disk part, while it projects freely at its opposite end. If to reduce the mass of the valve lifter also the guide sleeve and the disk part Must be made thinner, this results in a critical situation from a vibration point of view.

The invention has for its object to achieve such a stiffening of the housing with simple technical means that even with reduced wall thicknesses there is no risk of damage due to vibrations.

This object is achieved by the invention in that a second disc part is provided which starts from the hollow cylindrical wall and additionally supports the guide sleeve at a distance from the first disc part. In this way, a type of box profile is created which, even with a significantly reduced wall thickness, has a considerably higher rigidity than the previous plunger designs.

In order not to inadmissibly reduce the size of the outer annular oil storage space in this construction, it is expedient to have the second disc part pass into the hollow cylindrical wall in the immediate vicinity of the first disc part, from where it extends in a funnel shape towards the bottom and nearby the bottom of the end of the guide sleeve engages it.

It may be useful to design the second disc part so that it merges into an axial collar at its bore, which receives the guide sleeve in its bore. It only needs to be a tight fit between the guide sleeve on the one hand and the axial collar on the other without additional fasteners being required. On the other hand, however, if necessary, it is entirely possible to firmly connect the second disk part to the guide sleeve by welding, soldering, gluing or the like.

Another expedient embodiment can consist in that the second disk part is formed in one piece with the guide sleeve.

In order to achieve an even more rigid support of the guide sleeve, the two disk parts can finally be arranged at right angles to the longitudinal axis of the valve lifter and at a mutual distance also start in one piece from the two ends of the guide sleeve.

In the accompanying drawings, embodiments of the invention are shown in longitudinal section.

The plungers shown in the figures each consist of the cup-shaped housing 1, which is formed from the hollow cylindrical wall 2 and the base 3, which is integral therewith. The guide sleeve 4 is arranged concentrically in the housing 1 and opens at its end facing away from the base 3 into the center of a first disk part 5, which in turn is connected to the hollow cylindrical wall 2. The actual hydraulic play compensation element 6 is guided in a longitudinally displaceable manner in the guide sleeve 4.

In addition to the first disc part 5, a second disc part 7 is provided which, in the embodiments according to FIGS. 1 and 2, merges into the hollow cylindrical wall 2 in the immediate vicinity of the first disc part 5.

According to Figure 1, the second disc part 7 is provided at its bore with an axially directed collar 8, the inner diameter of which is so matched to the outer diameter of the guide sleeve 4 that there is a tight fit between them.

While the first disk part 5 extends from the lower end of the guide sleeve 4, the second disk part 7 extends from the upper end of the guide sleeve 4 inclined outwards, where it merges into the hollow cylindrical wall 2 in the immediate vicinity of the first disk part 5.

Finally, FIG. 3 shows a further variant in which - similar to FIG. 2 - the first disk part 5 starts from the lower end of the guide sleeve 4 and the second disk part 7 from the upper end thereof. In contrast to FIG. 2, however, both pane parts 5 extend and 7 at right angles to the longitudinal axis of the valve tappet and merge into the hollow cylindrical wall 2 at two axially distant locations. In this way, a box-shaped construction is created which has an even higher rigidity than that previously described. In order not to reduce the size of the outer annular oil storage space, a bore 9 is provided in the second disc part 7, through which the two partial storage spaces, which are separated by the second disc part 7, are connected to one another.
