Abstract

The ironing support comprises two ironing planes (2, 3) parallel to each other and consisting of plates interconnected by means of strut elements (7, 8) of small height. It is characterized in that, on the one hand, one (2) of the ironing planes is embodied by a so-called main plate, whereas the other (3) ironing plane is embodied by two distinct annex plates projecting over the main plates and, on the other hand, instead of being all arranged at the same extremity of the support, the strut elements (7, 8) connecting respectively the annex plates to the main plate are associated to the main plate at opposite ends thereof, the three parts of the annex plates being thus turned towards each other. Application to the industry of household equipement.

Description

The invention relates to an ironing support. In this field, we already know (FR-A-1 146 635 and US-A-2 888 760) an ironing support having two work planes parallel to each other. consisting of two plates connected to each other in the vicinity of one of their ends by bracing elements bearing on the opposite faces of said plates.

After a filling of any known type, the face of one of the plates which faces outwards constitutes the ironing plane, that of the other panel forms the support plane on a stable element such as a table.

Of course, to allow the ironing of parts with variable dimensions and cuts, each tray has a substantially different shape.

In particular, in order to have a maximum ironing surface, the larger of the two plates has a generally rectangular shape but ends at its free end with a rounded part.

The other plate has its free end which either forms a large circular plate connected to the rest of the plate by large fillets (FR-A-1 146 635) or is split longitudinally into two parts which end in rounded parts and are linked together by a wide leave (US-A-2 888 760).

If at first glance, the circumference of each of the trays of these boards makes it possible to have an ironing surface with sufficiently variable contours to respond to the diversity of the shapes of the pieces to be ironed, the concave parts which the leaves form make it very difficult to filling of the pl years of work of the plates without carrying out in the coating of the clamps which will mark false folds in the parts to be ironed.

Furthermore, the bracing elements of the two panels being arranged only in the vicinity of one of the ends of the support, over the majority of their length, the two panels are cantilevered.

When using the table and especially when ironing on its large tray, the efforts to which it is then subjected, bend the upper panel which lacks seating.

The resulting instability is obviously an annoyance for ironing.

We know (GB-A-3 895, US-A-2 699 617) other ironing supports having two work planes parallel to each other, consisting of a main plate having a large ironing surface and a very small tray forming a jeannette which, by one of its crumbs, is fixed to the main tray by means of a bracing element.

When using the main platform, given the small size of the jeannette, the instability is even greater.

To overcome this drawback, one of these supports (GB-A-3,895) has its main plate which is, on the face carrying the jeannette, provided with members in which the feet can be fixed detachably to allow the main plate to bear on the stable element not only by the jeannette and its bracing element but also beyond the jeannette and in particular on the side opposite to the bracing element.

If these feet provide good stability, they naturally complicate the manufacture of the board and its use taking into account the assembly / disassembly necessary for each inversion.

In addition, having to be disassembled when using the jeannette, the feet may be lost.

A result which the invention aims to obtain is an ironing support which overcomes the aforementioned drawbacks.

Referring to the drawing, it can be seen that the ironing support 1 has, in a known manner, two ironing planes 2, 3 which are parallel to each other and consist of plates 4, 5, 6 of appreciably different shape and dimensions, connected together by bracing elements 7, 8 of low height H bearing on the facing faces 41, 51, 61 of the plates 4, 5, 6 embodying the parallel ironing planes.

On their faces 42, 52, 62 located on the side of the ironing planes 2, 3 and therefore called external faces, the plates 4, 5, 6 are lined with a coating (not shown) of any known type, for example insulating.

The simple inversion of the support I makes it possible to benefit from different ironing surfaces responding to the diversity of shapes of the pieces 10 to be ironed.

This is why, the trays have geometric point of view of the differences.

Obviously, the support 1 rests by one of its ironing planes 2, 3 then producing a support plane on a stable element 9, of suitable height, such as a table.

Therefore, when using the main plate, it is supported by its two ends, which prevents it from bending.

The additional plates 5, 6 are substantially of dimensions, one 5 comparable to those of a jeannette and the other clearly larger and in particular of width substantially equal to that of the main plate with which it is associated by at least two elements d bracing 8 spaced apart so that, with the bracing element 7 of the jeannette 5, offer the widest possible support polygon on the stable element 9.

The main plate having a substantially rectangular shape, the bracing elements 7, 8 are then arranged at the periphery of this plate, for example in three of the four angles of said main plate, which gives it great stability.

To present an optimal surface without increasing the size of the support 1, when projected onto the plane of the main plate, the auxiliary plates 5, 6 are inscribed inside the outline of the main plate and preferably follow the contours by at least two of their edges and are therefore in the form of a fictitious rectangular panel 11 divided into two parts 5, 6 separated from each other by a certain space 12 useful for engaging the pieces to be ironed 10 on the free end of the auxiliary plates 5, 6.

Therefore, in this preferred embodiment, the additional plates have substantially the shape of right triangles whose hypotenuses are opposite.

The edge 126 of the largest annex plate adjoining the space 12 extends substantially along the diagonal of the fictitious rectangle 11.

Preferably, on the side of the bracing elements 8 of the corresponding plate, this edge 126 joins not the angle of the fictitious rectangle 11 but the longitudinal side of the latter so as to give the large annex plate the shape of a rectangular trapezoid preserving on the contour of the plate an obtuse angle A conducive to the ironing of certain pieces 10 and in particular of glue and shoulder.

Preferably, the bracing elements 7, 8 have a fixed height but, of course, they can also:

• - have an adjustable height and for this purpose include means (not shown) for adjusting their height, or
• - be foldable or even removable.

In all cases, these bracing elements 7, 8 are designed so as to withstand without appreciable deformation the forces received during ironing and to limit as little as possible the possibilities of threading of ironing pieces 10 onto at least some additional trays.

Provided that the elements 7, 8 satisfy the conditions stated above, any shape is suitable but preferably they will be spacers 13 in the form of an elongated "C".

In the height interval H reserved between the main plate 4 and the auxiliary plates 5 and 6, there can obviously be accommodated accessory elements.

For example, there can be placed there a box and pipes and / or means of connection to a group making it possible to suck the steam from the ironing and collected through at least one of the plates 4, 5, 6.

In this case, at least the plate concerned is made of permeable material and, for example, of expanded metal or of material having orifices provided by molding or drilling.

According to the invention, the ironing support further comprises guided in translation between two bracing elements 8 such as two spacers 13 in "C" with branches arranged in parallel, a platform 14 retractable between the plates 4, 6 and intended, in position outlet, to receive the iron.

Preferably, the platform 14 includes flanges 141, 142 and thereby acquires the appearance of a basket 15 whose platform 14 forms the bottom.

Advantageously, this bottom is substantially located in the median plane of the edges to form a double basket.

Of course, the basket 15 is made of thermally resistant material and / or comprises, to receive the iron, a support sole made of a thermally resistant material.

Preferably, the translation of the basket 14 between these two positions, one exit, the other retracted, is delimited by stops (not shown).

In the retracted position, the basket can advantageously serve as a drawer and, for example, house accessories.

In the figures, the basket has only been shown in the extended position.

Preferably, the sides of the plates obviously join by rounding.

The ironing support has dimensions such that it remains easy to handle and that, in particular. the operator can easily turn it over to use sometimes the front, sometimes the back as an ironing support according to the platinum shape requirements required by the article being ironed.

Advantageously, the main plate will be very wide and in particular will have a width at least equal to half of its length.

By way of indication only, for domestic use, good results have been obtained with a support the trays of which are each inscribed in a rectangle of five hundred millimeters by nine hundred millimeters and the distance between the ironing plane of around one hundred and twenty millimeters. .

Smaller dimensions will be provided when the ironing board has another use, for example, for ironing during trips or for use as a toy.

Advantageously, the support can be made of wood or of particle board but any other material such as metal or plastic can be suitable provided that it supports the stresses linked to the heating due to the iron.

For the storage of the board, it can be provided with suspension means such as rings.

In an alternative embodiment, in order to reinforce the stability not only of the main plate but also of the largest annex plate, under the free end thereof is provided an additional bracing element (not shown).

This additional element is then mounted in an eclipsable manner in order, when using the large auxiliary tray, to free if necessary the passage of the part to be threaded on the free end.

The entire support can be movable on a hinge pin facilitating its overturning.

Said axis is then associated with a support such as a partition.

The main tray can obviously be used as a side table in this case.

Claims (10)

1. Ironing support (1) comprising two ironing planes (2, 3) which are parallel to one another and are constituted by boards (4, 5, 6) connected to one another by bracing elements (7, 8) of low height (H), this support being characterised in that:

- on the one hand, one (2) of the ironing planes is embodied in the form of one single board (4), referred to as the principal board, whilst the other ironing plane (3) is embodied in the form of two separate supplementary boards (5, 6) overhanging the principal board (4), and

- on the other hand, instead of all being disposed at one and the same end of the support, the bracing elements (7, 8) which respectively connect the supplementary boards (5, 6) to the principal board (4) are associated with the principal board (4) at opposite ends thereof, the free parts of the supplementary boards thus being turned towards one another.

2. Support according to claim 1, characterised in that the principal board is of a substantially rectangular shape, and the bracing elements (7, 8) are disposed at the periphery of this board.

Support according to claim 1 or 2, rharac- terised in that, in order provide an optimum surface without thereby increasing the amount of space occupied by the support (1), in projection on the plane of the principal board, the supplementary boards (5, 6) are dimensioned so as to lie within the contour of the principal board.

Support according to claim 1 or 2. characterised in that in projection on the principal board. the supplementary boards correspond to the contours by at least two of their edge^*, and therefore are defined in the shape of an imaginary rectangular panel (11) which is divided into two parts (5, 6) which are separated from one another by a certain space (12) which is to be used for engaging the items to be ironed (10) on the free end of the supplementary boards (5, 6).

5. Support according to any one of the claims 1 to 4, characterised in that the supplementary boards are substantially in the shape of right-angled triangles whose hypotenuses face one another.

Support according to claim 3 or 4. characterised in that on the larger supplementary board, the edge (126) which is contiguous to the space (12) extends substantially along the diagonal of the imaginary rectangle (11), but on the side facing towards the bracing elements (8) of the corresponding board. instead of joining the angle of the imaginary rectangle (11), this edge (126) joins the longitudinal side of the latter, in such a manner as to confer upon the large supplementary board the shape of a trapezoidal rectangle which maintains on the contour of the board an obtuse angle (A) which is advantageous for the ironing of certain items (10).

7. Support according to any one of the claims 1 to 6. characterised in that the ironing support furthermore comprises, guided in translation between two bracing elements (8) such as two bracing members (13) which are C-shaped with their arms disposed in parallel, a platform (14) which is retractable between the boards (4. 5) and which, in the extended position, is intended for receiving the iron.

8. Support according to any one of the claims 1 to 7. characterised in that the platform (14) comprises raised edges (141. 142) and due to this fact, assumes the appearance of a basket (15) whose bottom is formed by the platform (14).

9. Support according to claim 8, characterised in that the bottom is situated substantially in the median plane of the raised edges in order to form a double basket.

10. Support according to any one of the claims 1 to 9. characterised in that in order to reinforce the stability not only of the principal board but also of the larger supplementary board, under the free end of this latter a supplementary bracing element is provided, assembled in a retractable manner.
