Definitions
- the invention relates to a lamp according to the preamble of claim 1.
- a lamp of the type mentioned has a lamp housing in which the individual electrical components for supplying the lamp, which can either be an incandescent lamp or a fluorescent lamp, are housed.
- These luminaire housings if they are designed to be explosion-proof in type of protection "d", flameproof enclosure, are predominantly made of metal; the transparent cover attached to this metal housing is made of glass.
- Such a lamp is known for example from US-A 4 142 179.
- the lamp housing is made of metal and - because it is a relatively small lamp - the cover part is made of plastic.
- the free volume inside the luminaire housing may not exceed 3,000 cm 3 .
- the cover part can also consist of transparent plastic. Then the area that allows the light to pass through must not be larger than 8,000 cm 2 .
- the object of the invention is to provide a lamp of the type mentioned, in which the lamp housing and the cover are made of plastic.
- a lamp has become known from DE-A 25 31 968 in which the housing is made of plastic.
- the housing is completely filled with casting resin or a similar hardening plastic, the housing of the lamp according to DE-A 25 31 968 is not one that can be referred to as pressure-resistant encapsulation.
- the free residual space between the filler parts and the electrical components inside the housing is always kept to less than 3,000 cm 3 . It can thereby be achieved that the housings previously designed as metal housings can now be manufactured from plastic, provided the wall thickness is correctly dimensioned.
- the filling parts can be designed as carrier parts for the electrical components, or they can serve as adapters; the filler parts are then expediently made from foamed plastic. Of course, they can also consist of metal or other materials.
- filler, sand, quartz powder or glass balls can be used, which have the advantage that the residual space to be filled can have any shape, because the sand or the quartz powder or the glass balls in their entirety have no defined space, for example surround a quarder or the like.
- liquids can also be filled in, which is particularly advantageous when the electrical components have to be cooled. The liquid then serves as a cooling liquid.
- the filling parts can of course also be made of ceramic, metal, or a combination of these materials.
- the filling parts can also be used in the cover part, eg as a reflector carrier. Then they serve to limit the transparent, translucent surface of the cover part to an area of less than 8000 cm 2 . This means that the cover part can also be produced from plastic.
- the luminaire 10 consists of a luminaire housing 11 and a cover part 12 attached to it.
- the luminaire housing 11 is closed by means of an end wall 13, so that the housing 11 together with the end wall 13 meets the requirements of "pressure-resistant encapsulation".

Description
The invention relates to a lamp according to the preamble of claim 1.
A lamp of the type mentioned has a lamp housing in which the individual electrical components for supplying the lamp, which can either be an incandescent lamp or a fluorescent lamp, are housed. These luminaire housings, if they are designed to be explosion-proof in type of protection "d", flameproof enclosure, are predominantly made of metal; the transparent cover attached to this metal housing is made of glass.
Such a lamp is known for example from US-A 4 142 179. With this lamp, the lamp housing is made of metal and - because it is a relatively small lamp - the cover part is made of plastic.
If the luminaire housing is not to be made of metal but of plastic, then the free volume inside the luminaire housing may not exceed 3,000 cm 3 . Of course, the cover part can also consist of transparent plastic. Then the area that allows the light to pass through must not be larger than 8,000 cm 2 .
The object of the invention is to provide a lamp of the type mentioned, in which the lamp housing and the cover are made of plastic.
This object is achieved according to the invention by the characterizing features of claim 1.
A lamp has become known from DE-A 25 31 968 in which the housing is made of plastic. However, since the housing is completely filled with casting resin or a similar hardening plastic, the housing of the lamp according to DE-A 25 31 968 is not one that can be referred to as pressure-resistant encapsulation.
By inserting a large-volume filler part or several large-volume filler parts into the luminaire housing, the free residual space between the filler parts and the electrical components inside the housing, regardless of how large the luminaire housing is made of plastic, is always kept to less than 3,000 cm 3 . It can thereby be achieved that the housings previously designed as metal housings can now be manufactured from plastic, provided the wall thickness is correctly dimensioned.
The filling parts can be designed as carrier parts for the electrical components, or they can serve as adapters; the filler parts are then expediently made from foamed plastic. Of course, they can also consist of metal or other materials. In a particularly advantageous embodiment, filler, sand, quartz powder or glass balls can be used, which have the advantage that the residual space to be filled can have any shape, because the sand or the quartz powder or the glass balls in their entirety have no defined space, for example surround a quarder or the like. Instead of using sand, quartz powder or glass balls, liquids can also be filled in, which is particularly advantageous when the electrical components have to be cooled. The liquid then serves as a cooling liquid.
The filling parts can of course also be made of ceramic, metal, or a combination of these materials.
The filling parts can also be used in the cover part, eg as a reflector carrier. Then they serve to limit the transparent, translucent surface of the cover part to an area of less than 8000 cm 2 . This means that the cover part can also be produced from plastic.
The invention will be explained and described in more detail with reference to the drawing, in which an advantageous embodiment of the invention is shown.
- The only figure is a sectional view through a lamp according to the invention.
The
The two
The
It would be conceivable to fill the remaining volume with granular filler parts. Then quartz flour, sand and the like could be used.
Instead of using the filler parts as carrier parts, the building elements can be attached to carriers. Then the rest of the room would have to be filled with filler parts. For the purpose of good cooling, these filling parts could be a liquid which easily dissipates the heat generated on the components to the outside.
