Ein Fräskopf 2, der durch ein Fräsmaschinengestell 3 entlang einer Reihe von Faserballen 4 geführt werden kann, enthält eine um eine Achse 5a antreibbare Fräswalze 5 sowie einen Rost 1, der an eine Stelle 1a seines einen Endes am Fräskopf 2 befestigt ist und mit einem Teil 1c am Faserballen 4 so anliegt, daß die Zähne der Fräswalze 5 zwischen den einander parallelen Stäben des Rosts 1 Fasern aus dem Ballen 4 herauszupfen können, die dann von diesen Zähnen zu einer Absaughaube B geworfen werden. Der Fräskopf 2 weist ferner eine Kämmwalze 7 auf, die um ihre zur Achse 5a der Fräswalze 5 parallele Achse 7a in gleicher Drehrichtung antreibbar ist und einen solchen Abstand von den Faserballen 4 hat, daß ihre Zähne nicht in sie eingreifen. Die Walzen 5 und 7 liegen einander so nahe, daß die Zähne der Kämmwalze 7 die Fräswalze 5 von darauf noch verbliebenen Fasern befreien können; vorzugsweise liegen sie derart, daß die Umfangskreise der Zähne beider Walzen 5 und 7 einander berühren oder einander etwas überschneiden. Der Rost 1 ist über die Stelle hinaus, an der er an den Ballen 4 anliegt, derart verlängert, daß er zwischen den Achsen 5a und 7a der Walzen 5 und 7 hindurch und anschließend auf der den Ballen 4 gegenüberliegenden Seite der Kämmwalze 7 verläuft und an seinem Ende bei 1b am Fräskopf 2 befestigt ist.A
