- the handle in the form of a button. which is pivotally mounted on a fixed axis relative to the circuit breaker housing and which is provided with a gripping projection on either side of which the two indications are located; by pivoting, the button switches from the "on” position (closing of the circuit breaker) in which only the indication "I” appears, to the "off” position (opening of the circuit breaker) in which only the indication "O" appears, and vice versa.
- Another known method consists in making the handle by double molding with two projections representing the two symbols considered; however, this molding has a relatively long cycle time and is of high cost.
- the present invention aims to remedy all these drawbacks and to realize in a simple and inexpensive manner the two standard indications "I” and "O” of the manual control lever of an electrical appliance, by making them indelible and visible on the device.
- an electrical appliance comprising a housing having a front face provided with a manual control lever capable of being moved between two extreme "on” and “off” positions, the handle extending in covering on a support element fixed relative to the housing and carrying on its front face two position indications, one of which is a vertical dash indicating the "on” position and the other is a circle indicating the "off” position, both indications being placed in relation to each other so that only one of them appears after moving the handle from one position to another, is characterized in that the handle and the support element are of contrasting colors, and that the handle is pierced with two openings through each of which appears the underlying support element and which each protrude from the support element te of said colors, one of the openings being rectilinear and constituting the indication of the "on” position, the other opening being circular and constituting the indication of the "off” position.
- the two rectilinear and circular openings formed in the handle come from molding with the latter. Thanks to this particularly simple embodiment of the two indications "I” and “O” of the lever, this advantageously results in a significant reduction in the overall cost of manufacturing the electrical appliance.
- a molded case 10 electrically insulating from an electrical device such as for example a circuit breaker, has on a front face 11 a light 13 for movement of a lever 15 for manual control of the circuit breaker.
- the lever 15 is produced in the form of a pivoting button with axis A1 capable of occupying two extreme pivoting positions, namely a "on" position, FIG. 1, corresponding to the closing of the circuit breaker and a symmetrical "off” position, FIG. 2, corresponding to the opening of the circuit breaker.
- the lever is biased conventionally in the direction of one or the other of its two positions by a return spring (not shown).
- the lever 15 has on its semi-cylindrical upper part 17 a manual socket 18 accessible from outside the housing and capable of abutting on the front face of the housing from and other of light 13 according to the "on" and "off" positions of the lever.
- the handle 15 provided with its socket 18 is made in one piece by molding an insulating material and is generally of a different color from that of the housing 10.
- the housing 10 is formed of two molded shells of unequal importance which are suitably applied against one another and assembled with each other by means of any suitable fixing system; in FIGS. 4 and 6, only the front face of one of the shells, designated by the general reference 21, is visible, the other shell being assumed to be removed.
- the shell 21 of the housing has transversely projecting on its lateral face a fixed tubular axis 23 serving to support the lever 15, this axis extending in the middle of the lumen 13 formed in the front face 11 and receiving in engagement the axis A1 carried by the lever 15; during this engagement, the semi-cylindrical part 17 of the lever is applied to the axis 23.
- the support axis 23 comes from molding with the shell 21 of the housing and is of the same color as the latter.
- the joystick In a manner known per se, the joystick carries two standard symbols or marks used to indicate the "on” and “off” positions which it can occupy: as shown in FIG. 3, one of the symbols has the form of a vertical dash (indication “I”) identifying the "on” position, while the other symbol has the shape of a circle (indication “O”) identifying the position "off”.
- the two indications "I” and “O”, FIG. 3, are arranged in alignment on either side of the grip 18 of the joystick, so as to appear one by one when the joystick changes from one position to the other.
- the two indications "I” and “O” are constituted by two respectively rectilinear 26 ( Figure 4) and circular 27 ( Figure 6) openings formed in part 17 of the handle 15 and through each of which appears the underlying axis 23 supporting the handle; choosing for the lever 15 and the axis 23 of the respective colors which contrast with each other, the rectilinear openings 26 and circular 27 emerge one on the axis 23 by contrast of the colors, thus indicating in a very visible manner to the user the "on” or "off” position occupied by the joystick.
- the handle 15 is gray in color
- the support axis 23, that is to say in fact the housing from which it has just been molded is black in color.
- the two rectilinear 26 and circular 27 openings come directly from molding with the lever 15; they can also be made by cutting out the handle.
- the axis 23 for supporting the handle has a diameter such that the entire semi-cylindrical part 17 of the handle 15 rests on this axis 23, so that each of the two openings 26, 27 is completely detached relative to axis 23.
- FIG. 5 there is illustrated the molded housing 10 provided with the lever 15 occupying the "on” position in which the recilinear opening 26 is visible by color contrast, the circular opening being hidden by the front face of the housing.
- FIG. 7 shows the lever 15 in its "stop” position identified by the circular opening 27 which stands out by contrast, the rectilinear opening being hidden by the front face of the housing 10.
- the invention makes use of this axis as a bottom on which detaches each opening made in the handle.
- the invention also applies to a lever produced in the form of a push button or slide movable in translation between the two extreme positions "on” and “off”; in this case, there is provided in the housing a fixed flat support, in a color contrasting with that of the handle, on which extends in overlap the handle pierced with two rectilinear and circular openings, so as to obtain the effect of contrast research.
