Description

The present invention relates to a method of filling a container such as a can, with a solid product, in particular a food product, in a carousel filling machine comprising a certain number of filling stations distributed angularly around the axis of the machine, and an arrangement of a filling station for the implementation of this method, according to the preambles of claims 1 and 2 respectively.

Each filling station includes a filling arrangement equipped with a tamping pad which is movable in the axis of the box between a high position above it and a compacting position inside the box, a predetermined distance below the upper edge thereof. After the tamping operation, the tampon is removed and returned to its upper position. The known filling process, carried out with known filling arrangements, has the major drawback that the products after the return of the tampon and after being thus released can rise up and out of the box. If for example the boxes contain green beans, these can, after the return of the tampon, extend beyond the upper level of the boxes and be cut later when evacuating them from the machine. It can therefore be seen, in general, that the known method and filling arrangements have the considerable disadvantage that the weight of the product contained in the boxes after they have been removed from the machine is less than the initial weight, however carefully dosed, and that products or pieces of lost products fall inside the machine, which requires frequent stops and cleaning of the latter.

The object of the present invention is to overcome these drawbacks and to propose a method and arrangement for filling the container, which make it possible to avoid any loss of products after filling, in the machine.

To achieve this object, the method according to the invention is characterized in that after having packed the product in the box, the tamping pad is only removed to a position at the upper edge of the box, so that it is closed by the lower surface of the tampon, and that the tampon is kept in this closed position of the box until the moment of evacuation of the box from the filling machine.

For the implementation of this method, the arrangement of a filling station according to the invention is characterized in that the device for driving the tamping pad comprises two driving means, which are mounted in series so that the first means prints a movement between the high rest position and a position at the upper edge of the box and that the second means prints a stroke of shorter length between the said position at the edge of the box and the position of settlement.

According to an advantageous characteristic of the invention, the two means for driving the tamping pad are formed by double-acting hydraulic jacks, mounted in series, the first jack being connected by its piston rod to said pad and by its cylinder body. to the piston rod of the second cylinder, the cylinder of which is kept fixed.

According to another advantageous characteristic of the invention, the arrangement of a filling station according to the invention comprises a member for lifting a box to be filled in a pressed application position from the open end of the box against the edge of the product supply orifice, made in the supply chamber, in line with the tamper.

According to another advantageous characteristic of the invention, the lifting member comprises a buffer which is mounted on a mobile support, by means of an elastic element such as a spring, dimensioned so as to allow a backward movement. of said buffer against said elastic element under the effect of the tamping buffer penetrating into the box, the support element of the lifting buffer possibly being the piston rod of a hydraulic cylinder.

  • - la figure 1 est une vue en coupe axiale verticale d'une machine remplisseuse équipée d'une multitude de postes de remplissage agencés selon la présente invention ;
  • - la figure 2 est une vue en coupe axiale, à plus grande échelle du détail entouré du cercle Il sur la figure 1, et ;
The invention will be better understood and other objects, characteristics, details and advantages thereof will appear more clearly during the explanatory description which follows, made with reference to the appended schematic drawings given solely by way of example illustrating a mode of the invention and in which:
  • - Figure 1 is a vertical axial sectional view of a filling machine equipped with a multitude of filling stations arranged according to the present invention;
  • - Figure 2 is an axial sectional view, on a larger scale of the detail surrounded by the circle II in Figure 1, and;

Figure 1 shows the structure of a carousel filling machine, intended to fill solid products such as for example vegetables, containers, in particular cans.

The general structure of such a machine is known. It therefore suffices to recall briefly that it comprises a part forming a rotating carousel 1 around a fixed central part 2 mounted on a frame 3. The reference numeral 4 indicates the motor which rotates the carousel 1, by means of of a reduction gear 5. The carousel comprises a certain number of filling stations 7 distributed angularly equidistant from the periphery of the carousel 1, all around the latter. Reference numeral 8 designates the carrier for empty boxes. These are transferred from this conveyor to the various filling stations 7 by means of a transfer star wheel device 9.

The invention relates to the arrangement of filling stations.

Un plateau 16 est prévu en haut du carrousel pour le montage des différents dispositifs de remplissage et de tassage 13.Each filling station 7 essentially comprises a device 10 for receiving and holding the boxes to be filled, one of which is indicated at 11, a device 12 for receiving and supplying product with filling of boxes 11 and means 13 for filling and tamping with products in boxes 11. Receiving and holding devices 10 for boxes 11 and devices for supplying products 12 of all the filling stations 7 are mounted on the superimposed platforms 14 and 15, integral with the carousel 1. A tray 16 is provided at the top of the carousel for mounting the various filling and tamping devices 13.

Ce piston est entraîné par un vérin hydraulique indiqué en 23.The reception and supply devices 12 each comprise a supply chamber 18 into which the product intended to be transferred into the boxes 11 is introduced via a hopper element 19. A plate 20 is slidably mounted in the opening of the hopper 19 in the chamber 18. It makes it possible to close this chamber, after the latter has received a desired quantity of filling products intended for a box. A piston 21 is movably mounted in the chamber to push the product towards a circular orifice 22, formed in the bottom of the chamber 18 in axial alignment with the boxes to be filled 11. This piston is driven by a hydraulic cylinder indicated at 23 .

The filling and tamping devices 13 each comprise a tamping pad 25 mounted movably in the axis of the box 11 which it must fill and of the opening 22 in the bottom of the supply chamber 18 between an extreme high position shown in Figure 1 and Figures 3 to 5 and 9 and a low tamping position. Figure 7 shows the pad 28 in this position. The pad 25 can occupy a third intermediate position, at the upper edge of a box 11 which has just been filled. Figures 6 and 8 show the tampon in this position.

The drive device enabling the tamping pad 25 to occupy these three positions comprises a series mounting of two double-acting hydraulic cylinders 27 and 28. The jack 27 is connected by its rod 29 to the buffer 25 and by its cylinder body at 30 to the piston rod of the jack 28, the body of which is fixedly mounted at 31 to the upper plate 16 of the carousel. The function of the hydraulic cylinder 27 is to move the buffer 25 between its extreme high position and its position at the upper edge of the boxes maintained in their filling position, shown in FIGS. 4 to 6 and 8, that is to say at the plane 32 of the lower surface of the rim of the receiving device 12, which surrounds the supply orifice 22. The jack 28 is adapted to impart to the piston 25 a stroke of shorter length, allowing it to move between its position at the level of the plane 32 and its tamping position shown in FIG. 7, into which it penetrates by a predetermined distance into the box which has just been filled. Means 33 are provided which make it possible to vary the stroke of the piston of the jack 28.

The device 10 for receiving and holding the boxes 11 in a filling station 7 essentially comprises a device 35 for lifting the boxes to bring them from their position indicated by strong lines in FIG. 1 to their filling position indicated by broken lines. In this filling position, the lifting device maintains the box which must be filled in application by its upper edge against the zone surrounding the supply orifice 22 at the plane 32.

It can be seen that this device comprises a lifting pad 36 which is mounted on the end of the piston rod 37 of a hydraulic cylinder 38, with the interposition of an elastic element such as the helical spring 39. The pad 36 is guided by a cylindrical part 40 integral with the plate 14 of the carousel. The spring 39 is dimensioned in such a way that the pad 36 is pushed elastically against the force of the spring 39 by deforming it elastically, by the tamping pad 36, when the latter cups the product contained in a box 11 which has just been filled. Of course, the jack 38 can be provided with means making it possible to adjust and vary the stroke of the lifting pad 36.

The filling process according to the invention will be described below, referring to FIGS. 3 to 9. These figures illustrate the different stages of the process.

In FIG. 3, a container 11 has just been placed in a filling station 7. Then, as shown in FIG. 4, the supply chamber 18 receives the product schematically indicated at 42 which must be transferred to the box. 11. The latter is raised by the lifting device 35 so that its upper edge is applied against the zone forming a stop surrounding the supply orifice 22, in axial alignment with the latter. Then the cylinder 23 of the piston 21 movable inside the chamber 18 is actuated to bring the product 42 into the part of the chamber located above the supply orifice 22, after closing the chamber 18 to using the sliding plate 20. In the following operation, according to FIG. 6, the hydraulic cylinder 27 is actuated to lower the tamping pad 25 to a position at the upper edge of the box 11. Then, as illustrated in Figure 7, the hydraulic cylinder 28 is put into service so that the pad 25 can enter the box 11 to pack the product 42 contained therein. Under the effect of the tamping pad 25 the lifting pad 36, due to the presence of the spring 39, is somewhat pushed back. It should be noted that the box is held by the buffer 25. After the tamping operation, the hydraulic cylinder 28 is again actuated, as shown in FIG. 8 to return the tamping buffer 25 to its position shown in FIG. 6 , that is to say at the upper edge of the box 11. The pad 27 is kept in this closed position of the box until the latter is removed from the machine. Then the jacks 23, 27 and 38 are actuated to return the piston 21, the tamping pad 25 and the lifting pad 36 respectively to their rest positions (FIG. 9). Now the filling station is ready to receive a new empty box 11.
