Abstract

Description

The present invention relates to an apparatus for performing hair removal.

In the European patent application of July 12, I985 published under the number 0169773, an apparatus has been described comprising a rotary drum, against the periphery of which a comb is applied elastically, the rotation of the drum being obtained by moving the apparatus over the skin. During this movement, the bristles penetrate into the grooves of the drum and are pushed back, under the effect of the rotation of said drum, against the internal face of the comb. In this position, the end of the hair is strongly pinched between the periphery of one of the teeth of the drum and said comb, the tearing being caused by continuing the movement of the device.

To pull out the hair and avoid cutting it, it is therefore necessary to exert a fair pressure on it; if the latter is too strong, there is a risk of cutting, if it is too weak the hair escapes the pincer effect caused by the combined action of the comb and the considered tooth of the drum.

Experience has shown that it is very difficult to pinch the hairs adequately because not all hairs have the same diameter from one individual to another.

In addition, and as the organs of the apparatus are made of molded plastic, these are sensitive to temperature differences and in some cases it has been observed that the comb is deformed by moving away from the periphery of the drum under the effect of a rise in temperature due to the climate.

The present invention which overcomes these drawbacks is remarkable in that the axis of the drum is movable relative to the comb, which is rigid and fixed, the apparatus further comprising means making it possible to adjust the pressure of said drum relative to said comb. .

The invention will be better understood from the description which follows, made with reference to the attached drawing by way of indicative example only, in which:

Referring to the drawing, it can be seen that, in known manner, the apparatus consists of a body 1 between the flanges 2 from which a usual drum 3 can rotate.

Each flange 2 has externally a shaft 4 for receiving a wheel 5, at least one of which has an internal toothing 6 engaged with a pinion 7 keyed to the axis 8 of the drum 3.

The assembly is enclosed in a housing, open at its lower part, and preferably produced in two parts 9a and 9b, assembled by any known means.

According to the invention, the housing 1 has a comb 10, rigid, against the internal face 10a of which is applied the drum 3, usual.

The bearings of the axis 8 of the drum 3 are constituted by orifices 11 provided in the flanges 2.

Each of the flanges 2 has, above the orifices ll, a slot 12 delimiting with the lower part 2a of the flange an arm 13.

According to another characteristic of the invention, means are provided for varying the flexibility of the arms 13 so as to adjust the pressure of the drum 3 against the comb 10, which is perfectly non-deformable.

According to one embodiment, each of the slots 12 opens into a hole 14 of oblong section, in each of which is engaged the end of a shaft 15 of oval section or the like.

The shaft 15 is made integral with a longitudinal tongue 16 allowing said shaft to pivot.

In this way, it is understood that by the rotation of the shaft 15 it is possible to rotate the arms 13 and, consequently, to apply the drum against a more or less significant pressure against the internal part 10a of the comb 10.

Of course, the present invention is not limited to the embodiment described and shown but extends, on the contrary, to all variants of shapes and dimensions.

Claims (4)

1- Apparatus for performing depilation comprising a grooved and rotary drum, cooperating in pressure with a comb and whose rotation is obtained by moving the device against the skin, characterized in that the axis of the drum (3 ) is movable relative to the comb (10) which is rigid and fixed relative to the body (1) of the device, the movement of said axis being effected by means of a single member. 2- Apparatus for performing hair removal, according to claim l, characterized in that means are provided for varying the pressure of the drum (3) against the comb (10). 3- Apparatus for performing hair removal, according to any one of claims 1 and 2, of the kind of those whose flanges (2) of the housing each have a hole (11) forming the corresponding bearing of the axis (8) drum (3) characterized in that each of the flanges (2) has a slit (12), located above the corresponding hole (11) and delimiting with the lower part of the flange an elastically deformable arm (13). 4-Apparatus for performing hair removal, according to any one of claims 1 to 3, characterized in that each of the slots (12) opens into a hole (14), of oblong section, forming the bearing of a tree ( 15) whose ends have an oval section, the rotation of said shaft (15) being able to vary the flexibility of the arm. (13) and therefore make it possible to adjust the pressure of the drum (3) against the comb (10).
