Definitions

  • the invention relates to a method for applying liquid, pasty or foamy masses on both sides to, in particular, swellable material webs by means of application rollers arranged one behind the other in the direction of the material web, which form a pair of S rollers and on which the layer thickness of the mass to be applied can be adjusted, and subsequent drying in one Floating dryer, whereby the two-sided application to the pair of S-application rollers takes place without rear material web support and without intermediate drying between the two application rollers with a wrap angle that is just sufficient for the application of the mass, such that the material web is guided essentially straight.
  • Another disadvantage of conventional methods is that the masses to be applied have different exposure times for drying on both sides of the material web. The result is a loss of quality.
  • the disadvantages described exist, for example, in the case of a known device for application on both sides, in which the material web is deflected by 180.degree. Between the first and second deflection rollers, the mass to be applied is applied from below to one side of the web by means of an application roller, while the mass to be applied is also applied from below to the other side of the material web behind the second deflection roller. Because of the long way between the two application points and the deflecting roller, the disadvantages described can occur, particularly in the case of swellable and porous material webs. In addition, with such an arrangement of the deflection and application rollers, it is difficult to draw in the material web.
  • the vertically guided material web is coated on two material webs which are offset on both sides in the conveying direction.
  • no precautions have been taken in this process to prevent weakening of a swellable and porous material web after the application at the first job location until the material web reaches the second job site. Unevenness can thus form which, when the material web is guided in a straight line, leads to a non-uniform coating (US Pat. No. 2,199,228).
  • Another difficulty with conventional methods is when different types of mass are to be applied to both sides of the web. In such cases there is a risk that the masses will mix with one another if the time to dry is too long.
  • the invention has for its object to provide a method and an apparatus for uniform and metered application of liquid, pasty or foamy masses on material webs on both sides, in which the material web is not impaired in quality by the masses.
  • the mass to be applied should be able to be applied as evenly as possible.
  • This object is achieved procedurally in that the job locations are so short one after the other, taking into account the conveying speed of the material web, that the action time of the material web at the first job location mass to be applied up to the second application point is not sufficient to significantly reduce the strength of the material web and / or to soak the material web.
  • the device used to carry out the method for applying liquid, pasty or foamy materials on both sides to swellable material webs in particular and then drying them consists of a float dryer, the two-sided application to the pair of S application rollers without backing of the material web and without intermediate drying between the two application rollers with one
  • the wrap angle is set so small that the material web is guided essentially straight.
  • the application points taking into account the conveying speed of the material web, are arranged in such short succession that the exposure time of the mass to be applied to the material web at the first application point to the second application point is not sufficient to significantly reduce the strength of the material web and / or to soak the material web.
  • Adjustable doctor blades, in particular squeeze rollers or the like can serve as the metering device.
  • the measures of the method and the features of the device according to the invention ensure that, after the first application to the second application, the material web is not influenced to such an extent by the application mass applied during the first application that the material web expands and / or shrinks with the consequence that wrinkles occur and / or it is no longer possible on the second applicator roller to apply application mass uniformly over the width of the material web and / or the masses to be applied on both sides mix. Because of the special arrangement of the application rollers and the running speed of the material web, the time at which the application materials act on the material web is too short for such a negative influence on the quality and shape of the material web.
  • the guidance of the material web over the two application rollers arranged as a pair of S rollers and the metering of the mass on the application roller itself ensure that on the one hand the application mass is applied in a metered amount to the two sides of the material web without supporting the material web on the opposite side of the application roller and that on the other hand the order time itself and the time lag between the two jobs and until the start of drying is negligible.
  • the adjustable small wrap angle with at least one adjustable application roller not only makes it possible to set the wrap necessary for applying a certain amount of application mass, but also to move the two application rollers apart to such an extent that an unobstructed material web feed is possible.
  • the application rollers can be designed in a conventional manner, i.e. can be designed as anilox rollers, can work as dipping rollers and that doctor blades or squeeze rollers can be adjusted to the rollers to meter the layer thickness.
  • the rollers can also be driven in the same direction or in the opposite direction to the web direction.
  • the method and the device according to the invention can be used particularly advantageously when the material web is to be treated in two stages, that is, when in the first stage a material web, such as paper or nonwoven, is impregnated with a filler, such as urea, and after intermediate drying, it is so treated pretreated material web the mass is applied on both sides by the method according to the invention and with the device according to the invention.
  • a material web such as paper or nonwoven
  • a filler such as urea
  • the material web is only moderately dried after impregnation with the filler (urea) by infrared radiation on both sides.
  • the application in the second stage with a higher quality material is also carried out by impregnation.
  • the material web then passes through a pair of squeeze rollers, from which the material web passes into a floating dryer.
  • Such a method does not provide a high throughput and does not allow an exact dosing of the outer application layers with the higher quality mass.
  • This consists in filling the material web with another material, in particular by impregnation, and drying it before applying the composition on both sides to the material web, in particular paper or fleece becomes.
  • the intermediate drying is preferably carried out in a floating dryer.
  • this embodiment is characterized in that a soaking device with a dryer is arranged upstream of the application rollers in the direction of the web of material.
  • the application unit 3 consists of an application roller 7, which is designed as an anilox roller and is immersed in the liquid mass in a shell 8.
  • a doctor blade 9 with an adjusting member 10 can be set against the outer surface of the application roller 7.
  • the application roller 7 is not adjustable in height and lies with its apex in the Guide level of the material web 5 through the dryer 2.
  • the second applicator unit 4 also consists of an applicator roller 11, on the rastered surface 11 of which a doctor blade 12 with an adjusting member 13 can be set.
  • the application mass is fed to the gusset 14 formed by the outer surface of the application roller 11 and the doctor blade 12.
  • the roller 11 together with the squeegee 12 and the adjusting member 13 is held in a holder 15 which can be lifted up from the working position shown in the drawing by a lifting device 16.
  • the holder 15 In order to pull in the material web 5, the holder 15 is raised by means of the lifting device 16, so that a sufficiently large free space is created through which the material web 5 can be drawn in without obstruction. After pulling in, the holder 15 is shut down again and brought into the position shown in the drawing, in which the two application rollers 7, 11 form an S-roller pair closely together. In this working position, the material web 5 wraps around the respective application roller only in a small area that is significantly smaller than a 90 ° wrap angle.
  • the application mass can be applied without any support on the back and on the other hand the application rollers can be arranged directly next to one another so that the time lag between the application on the one side of the material web and the application on the other side of the material web, taking into account the material web speed, is negligibly small, in any case so small that the solvents contained in the compositions do not negatively influence the material web can.
  • FIG. 2 differs from that of FIG. 1 essentially only in that the first application roller 17 is not designed as an immersion roller, but rather the mass to be applied in the gusset 19 formed by the jacket of the roller 18 and the adjustable doctor blade 18 is introduced.
  • an application roller with a locked outer surface and an adjustable doctor blade instead of an application roller with a locked outer surface and an adjustable doctor blade, an application roller with a smooth outer surface and a squeeze roller adjustable on the outer surface can be provided in order to meter the mass to be applied.
  • the embodiment of FIG. 3 is extended by a soaking device 20 and floating dryer 2 arranged upstream of the application units 3 and 4.
  • the impregnation device consists of a container filled with impregnation liquid, for example a filler (urea), an application roller 23 immersed in the impregnation liquid, with which filler is applied to the material web 5, deflection rollers 24, 25 arranged above the impregnation liquid and deflection rollers 27 arranged in the impregnation liquid , 28, which guide the material bars 5 through the soaking liquid.
  • the material web 5 filled with the impregnating liquid is deflected into the horizontal by a deflecting roller 29.
  • the deflection roller 29 can be a blow air-fed roller or an air saddle, over which the material web is guided without contact.
  • the floating dryer 2 can the material web Dry with higher power than an infrared heater.
  • the material web thus filled up with filler then arrives at the applicator units 3, 4, which only need to apply small amounts of the higher order mass to the filled material web. Because of the material web previously filled with filler, an even, smooth application can therefore be achieved.
