- the subject of the present invention is a switchable writing head with needles comprising two rows of needles, these needles being slidably mounted in guide tracks in a front support in two parts, the rows being arranged substantially vertically with respect to the direction. writing a line by the head, a first device allowing at will to produce a relative displacement between the two parts of the front support in a first vertical direction relative to the writing direction to align the positions of the needles one row relative to the positions of the needles in the other row parallel to the writing direction, or to shift these positions between the two rows.
- Such heads are known, which are described, for example, in European patents EP-A 0 078 342 and 0 139 190 or in patent US-A4 010 835. These needle heads make it possible by offset of the two rows of needles to obtain careful writing which does not, however, achieve the writing precision obtained by printing heads of a whole character, but of a slow printing speed.
- the invention is characterized, for this purpose, in that the writing head comprises a second device arranged so as to move the two parts of the front support simultaneously in said first direction and a third device making it possible to move and adjust the front support in two parts in a second direction perpendicular to said first direction and the writing direction.
- the offset of the two parts of the support simultaneously makes it possible to carry out a second writing pass thus filling the incomplete parts of the printing of the first pass to form continuous lines giving rise to high precision writing.

- a first end 37 of this lever is engaged in a recess 38 in the part 13 of the front support, while the other end 39 is capable of cooperating with a stop 40 when the electromagnet is triggered, as indicated in broken lines in Figure 1, thus constituting a device 41 for moving the two parts 13, 14 of the front support simultaneously.
- the two parts of the front support 12 are displaced upwards, with reference to FIG. 1, by a distance corresponding to a quarter of the distance between the axes between two needles 2 of a row, the end 39 of the lever then resting on the carcass 34.
- the pivot 35 occupies a position such that the end 37 of the lever 36 performs a displacement at least half as small as the other end 39 whose stroke is delimited by the adjustable stop 40 and the carcass 34. This reduction in the movement of the stroke of the end 39 relative to the movement of the end 37 and of the front support 12 ensures high precision in adjusting the movement of the front support 12.
- the writing head allows conventional writing with little care, but at high speed (fig. 3a), careful writing by shifting the needles of the two rows at normal speed (fig. 3b) and a very precise execution writing by making two passages offset by a quarter of an axis at normal speed with the two rows 18, 19 of needles offset by a half axis.
- the writing head is therefore suitable for a wide field of application.
- the needles must be able to be held in guide paths as close as possible to their writing point.
- the print head comprises, for this purpose, the third device 11 constituted by the assembly part 7 slidably mounted on the part 8 secured to the rear part 1 of the head.
- This device allows precise adjustment of the front face of the rubies 15 and 16 relative to the point of the hands 2 by a displacement of the entire front part 3 of the head relative to the rear part 1. Also, by removing the screws 10 , the entire front part 3 of the writing head can be removed for the purposes of repair or to exchange it for a part 3 having another arrangement of the needles.
- the third device 11 gives the advantage of being able to dismantle the rear part 1 carrying the control members for actuating the needles 2, without the needles leaving their guide paths 17, by moving back the front part 3, before repair work, for example, so that the point of the needles protrudes greatly from the rubies 15 and 16.
- the variant illustrated in FIG. 4 is distinguished by the fact that the two rubies 15a and 16a are, moreover, capable of being displaced relative to each other in a direction parallel to the writing direction 20 by virtue of to a fourth device 49.
- the part 14a of the front support 12a is, for this purpose, biased towards the part 13a by a leaf spring 50 bearing against a boss 51 of the part 14a and whose free ends are supported in housings 52 and 53.
- Two parts 54, 55 in the form of a cam are inserted between the parts 13a and 14a.
