Claims (10)

1. A shiftable print head of the pin type, having two ranges (18, 19) of pins (2), these pins being mounted slidably in guide channels (17) in a front support (12) having two portions (13, 14), the said ranges (18, 19) being disposed substantially vertically with respect to the direction (20) in which a line is printed by the head, a first control device (21) permitting a relative displacement to be produced at will between the two said portions (13, 14) of the front support (12) in a first direction (46) which is vertical with respect to the direction of printing, so as to align the position of the pins (2) of one said range (18) with respect to the positions of the pins (2) of the other range (19) parallel to the direction of printing (20), or to displace these positions between the two ranges (18, 19), characterised in that it includes a second device (41) adapted for displacing the two said portions (13, 14) of the front support (12) simultaneously in the said first direction (46), and a third device (11) allowing the split front support (12) to be displaced an adjusted in a second direction (47) perpendicular to the said first direction (46) and the direction of printing (20).

A head according to Claim 1 in which the axes of the pins (2) of one range are spaced apart by a predetermined distance, characterised in that the said relative displacement corresponds to one half of the predetermined distance, and the simultaneous displacement of the two portions (13, 14) of the front support poduced by the second said device (41) corresponds to one quarter of the said predetermined distance.

A head according to Claim 1, characterised in that the said front support (12) comprises a first portion (13) fixed with respect to one end of at least two connecting members (31, 32) which are flexible in the said first direction (46), the other end of the said connecting members being fixed to an assembly member (7) which is mounted, slidably in the said second direction (47), on the rear part (1) of the head which is fixed with respect to a carriage (4), the said second portion (14) of the front support (12) being mounted slidably on the first portion (13) of the said front support (12).
4. A head according to Claim 3, characterised in that the said second device (41) comprises a control member (33) mounted on the assembly member (7) and including an actuating lever (36) cooperating with the said first portion (13) of the front support (12).

A head according to Claim 4, characterised in that the control member comprises an electromagnet (33) acting on the actuating lever (36), the latter being disposed substantially parallel to the pins (2) and being mounted pivotally about a pivot (35) situated between the electromagnet (33) and the said first portion (13), the position of the pivot (35) being such that a first end (37) of the actuating lever (36), cooperating with the said first part (13), undergoes a displacement at least twice as small as the other end (39) of the said lever (36) when the electromagnet (33) is energised, the travel of the said second end (39) being limited by two abutments (34, 40).
6. A head according to Claim 5, characterised in that it comprises a resilient element (42) acting on the said first part (13) and so arranged as to bias the actuating lever (36) against one (40) of the stop abutments when the electromagnet (33) is de-energised.
7. A head according to Claim 3, characterised in that the said first device (21) includes a control bar (22) pivotally mounted on the said first portion (13) of the front support (12) and cooperating at one of its ends (24) with the said second portion (14) of the front support (12).

A head according to Claim 3, characterised in that the said third device (11) comprises at least one screw (10) which is slidable in a through opening (9) arranged parallel to the said second direction (47), the said screw (10) being such as to permit the assembly member (7) to be fixed with respect to the said rear part (1) of the head in predetermined positions.
9. A head according to Claim 3, characterised in that the assembly member (7) and the rear part (1) are conformed with each other in such a way as to allow one front support (12) to be exchanged for another front support.
10. A head according to Claim 1, characterised in that it includes a fourth device (49), so arranged as to allow relative displacement to be produced at will between the two potions (13, 14) of the front support (12) in a direction substantially parallel to the direction of printing (20)
