Abstract

The apparatus contains a winding unit for winding up printed products arriving in an imbricated product formation. The winding unit comprises a hollow substantially cylindrical winding core. Upon the outer surface of the winding core there is wound up a winding band. Prior to the start of a product winding-up operation the winding band is unwound from the winding core and wound upon a spool member. Subsequently the winding band is wound up onto the winding core together with the printed products.

Description

The present invention relates to a method for temporarily storing printed products, such as newspapers, magazines and the like, resulting in scale formation, according to the preamble of claim 1, and to a winding unit consisting of a hollow cylindrical winding core and a winding tape which is suitable for carrying out this method.

From CH-PS 652 379 and the content of this corresponding US-PS 4,532,750 a winding unit is known which consists of a hollow cylindrical winding body, on which the printed products are wound in scale formation, and a storage spool for a winding tape arranged inside the same. The winding body is supported by ribs on a continuous shaft which projects above the winding body and on which the supply spool is rotatably mounted. A drive wheel is also connected to the latter, which is also mounted on the shaft and which can be brought into contact with a pivotably mounted friction wheel in order to set the supply spool in rotation. A slot is provided in the winding core through which the winding tape arranged in the interior of the winding body can pass.

The winding tape is always transported and stored with the winding body. Before winding up printed products, the required length of winding tape is unwound from the supply reel and wound onto a tape reel arranged outside the winding body for temporary storage. The winding tape is when winding the Printed products are withdrawn from this reel and wound with the printed products on the winding body. The unused winding tape length remains wound on the supply reel.

As already mentioned, a slot is provided in the winding former for leading the winding tape out of the interior of the winding former. Now move the winding tape in the right direction, i.e. towards the tape reel, the winding body must first be rotated into a certain position in which this exit slot for the winding tape assumes the correct position before the winding of the winding tape can be started. This positioning of the winding body is relatively time-consuming in the case of manual actuation or requires a corresponding outlay on equipment if this positioning is to take place automatically.

Furthermore, the structure of the known winding unit is very complex, which increases the cost of manufacture. This is particularly important because a very large number of such winding units are required in a printing company. Furthermore, this winding unit needs a lot of space in the direction of the shaft, which projects laterally over the winding body.

The present invention has for its object to provide a method of the type mentioned, which allows winding of printed products on the winding cores without too much preparation and using as simple as possible and a minimum amount of space-consuming means.

This object is achieved according to the invention by the features of the characterizing part of claim 1. Those suitable for carrying out the method according to the invention Winding units are designed according to the features of the characterizing part of claim 5.

Since the winding tape is wound onto the outside of the winding core, this winding tape can be unwound from the winding core again in a simple and easy manner. The winding core easily rotates into the correct position for pulling off the winding tape, without the actual positioning of the winding core being necessary. The unit consisting of the winding core and the winding tape wound on it is extremely simple in construction, since the winding core on which the printed products are wound is also a carrier for the winding tape. A separate coil core for the latter is therefore not necessary. Since a shaft firmly connected to the winding core is not required, the winding units can be manufactured inexpensively. In addition, space-saving stacking of both the empty and the winding cores carrying a winding is possible.

Because of the necessarily relatively large diameter of the winding core, only a comparatively small number of turns are required to store a certain length of winding tape on the winding core, which means that the outside diameter of the winding unit is only slightly larger than the diameter of the winding core due to the wound winding tape. This is especially true when the winding tape is wound with turns offset in the direction of the longitudinal axis of the winding core.

Preferred further developments of the method according to the invention or of the winding unit according to the invention form the subject of the dependent claims.

  • Fig. l und 2 In Vorder- bzw. Seitenansicht einen Wickelkern mit aufgewickeltem Wickelband;
  • Fig. 3 und 4 Ebenfalls in Vorder- bzw. Seitenansicht einen aus auf den Wickelkern aufgewickelten Druckprodukten bestehenden Wickel;

  • Fig. l5 Ebenfalls in Seitenansicht eine Abwickelstation.
In the following, the invention will be described with reference to the drawing explained. It shows purely schematically:
  • Fig. L and 2 in front and side view of a winding core with wound winding tape;
  • 3 and 4, also in front and side view, of a winding consisting of printed products wound on the winding core;
  • Fig. 5 In front view and partially in section, a winding core with spirally wound winding tape;
  • 6 to l3 in the representation corresponding to FIGS. 1 and 3, different embodiments of winding cores with wound winding tape or wound printed products;
  • Fig. L4 in side view of a winding station, and
  • Fig. L5 Also in side view an unwinding station.

Dies ist ohne Schwierigkeiten möglich, da dieses Ende 6a im wesentlichen immer dieselbe Lage am Umfang einnimmt, da ja die Länge des aufgewickelten Wickelbandes 6 gleich bleibt und das Wickelband mit dem Wickelkern 2 verbunden bleibt.1 and 2, a winding unit 1 is shown in front view and in side view, which has a hollow cylindrical winding core 2, the longitudinal axis of which is designated by 2a. On the inside, the winding core 2 is provided with two circumferential ribs 3 and 4 which are arranged at a distance and which serve to handle and support the winding core 2. On the outside 5 of the winding core 2, a winding tape 6 is wound, which is firmly connected at one end to the winding core 2. The windings 7 of the winding tape 6 lie one above the other, as can be seen in particular from FIG. The free end 6a of the winding tape 6 is suitably detachably connected to the last complete turn 7, for example by means of a Adhesive tape or a Velcro fastener. This is possible without difficulty, since this end 6a essentially always occupies the same position on the circumference, since the length of the wound winding tape 6 remains the same and the winding tape remains connected to the winding core 2.

Das freie Ende 6a des Wickelbandes 6 haftet lösbar an der äussersten vollständigen Windung 7 des Wickelbandes 6 (Fig. 4).3 and 4, a finished winding 8 is now shown, which was formed in the manner to be explained with reference to FIG. 14. This winding 8 consists of printed products, such as newspapers, magazines, supplements to the latter and the like, wound in a scale formation on the winding core 2. The winding tape 6 is wrapped between the individual winding layers 9. The free end 6a of the winding tape 6 releasably adheres to the outermost complete turn 7 of the winding tape 6 (Fig. 4).

Instead of winding the winding tape 6 as shown in FIGS. 1 and 2 in windings 7 lying one above the other on the winding core 2, it is also possible to wind the winding tape 6 spirally onto the outside 5 of the winding core 2, as shown in FIG. 5. The individual turns 7 'are distributed over the entire width of the winding core 2. In this way, a cylindrical outer surface is formed over the entire width of the winding core 2, which is not the case in the embodiment according to FIGS. 1 and 2. It is also possible to wind the winding tape 6 on the winding core so that the individual windings 7 'overlap each other somewhat and do not lie next to one another as shown in FIG. 5.

If the winding tape 6 is wound as shown in Fig. 5 with in the direction of the longitudinal axis 2a of the winding core 2 laterally offset turns 7 ', this has the advantage that a cylindrical outer surface is formed even if only part of the winding tape 6 from Winding core 2 is unwound.

Anhand der Fig. 6 bis l3, die in der Darstellung den Fig. l und 3 entsprechen, werden nun weitere Ausführungsformen von Wickeleinheiten l erläutert.6 to l3, which correspond to FIGS. 1 and 3 in the illustration, further embodiments of winding units 1 will now be explained.

In the embodiment according to FIGS. 6 and 7, a winding tape 6 which is wider than the embodiment according to FIGS. 1 and 3 and which is only slightly less wide than the winding core 2 is used. This has the advantage that, similar to the embodiment according to FIG Fig. 5, the outer surface of the winding unit 1 is always approximately a cylindrical surface.

In the embodiment shown in FIGS. 8 and 9, the winding tape 6 wound onto the outside 5 of the winding core 2 is accommodated in a groove 10 which is open to the outside and extends over the entire circumference of the winding core 2. This groove is preferably laterally offset with respect to a central plane M running perpendicular to the longitudinal axis 2a of the winding core 2. Such a solution has the advantage that the rolled-up printed products are not drawn into the now empty slot 10, since the winding tape 6 in the winding 8, as shown in FIG. 9, approximately in the area of the said central plane M and not in the area of the slot 10 runs.

As can be seen from FIGS. 10 and 11, two winding tapes 6 and 6 'can also be provided, which are wound approximately parallel to one another on the outside 5 of the winding core 2. Such a solution has the disadvantage of a greater effort compared to an embodiment with only one winding tape 6 not only in terms of the amount of winding tape material required but also the necessary facilities for winding and unwinding the winding tapes 6, 6 '.

With the exception of the construction of the winding core 2, the embodiment shown in FIGS. 12 and 13 corresponds to the embodiment according to FIGS. 1 and 3. Compared to the latter, the winding core 2 shown in FIGS. 12 and 13 has no inwardly projecting ribs. Rather, the inner surface ll of the winding core 2 is formed over its entire width as a cylindrical surface. Such an embodiment of the winding core 2 enables a simpler and less expensive production method.

The formation of coils 8 and the associated preparatory actions are explained in more detail below with reference to FIG.

In this Fig. 14 a mobile winding station l2 is shown, which is provided with two winding positions l3 and l4 arranged one above the other. At each winding cell l3, l4 there is only a schematically indicated bearing l5 or l6 for winding cores 2. Each winding point l3, l4 also includes a rotatably mounted spool l7, l8 for the winding tape 6. The winding tape 6 is wound on these spools l7, l8 in a manner to be described in more detail to form tape windings l9. Upstream of the coils 17, 18 are guide rollers 20.2l for the winding tape 6.

To each winding point l3, l4 leads a feed conveyor 22 or 23, which is shown only in a purely schematic manner, the end part 22a or 23a of which is designed as a pivotable rocker. A feed device 24, which is common to them, is connected upstream of the feed conveyors 22, 23, which feeds the printed products 25 that occur in scale formation S and is to be wound up and optionally transfers them to one of the two feed conveyors 22, 23.

In preparation for winding up the supplied scale formation S, a winding core 2 is also on its outside side wound winding tape 6 placed on the storage l5 or l6. The free end of the winding tape 6a is then guided over the guide roller 20 or 2l and releasably connected to the empty spool l7 or l8. The winding core 2, which is freely rotatable on the bearing l5, l6, automatically rotates into the correct position. Now the spool l7, l8 is driven in a manner not shown in detail, which has the consequence that the winding tape 6 unwinds from the winding core 2 rotating in the direction of arrow B, which is slightly braked, as shown in the lower winding point l4 is. As soon as the required length of winding tape has been unwound from the winding core and wound onto the coil l7, l8, its drive is stopped. The winding core is now ready to receive the printed products 25.

For the subsequent winding up of the printed products 25 fed through the feed device 24 in scale formation S, the winding core 2 is now driven in the direction of arrow A, as is shown at the upper winding point l3. The winding tape 6 firmly connected to the winding core 2 is unwound from the tape winding l9 and wound under tension with the scale formation S, as is explained in more detail in CH-PS 642 602 and the content-corresponding US-PS 4,438,6l8. At the end of the winding process, the winding tape 6 is wrapped around the finished winding 8 one or more times in order to prevent the winding 8 from falling apart. Optionally, as already mentioned with reference to FIGS. 3 and 4, the free end of the winding tape can be detachably connected to the outermost complete turn by suitable means.

The finished winding 8 is now removed from the bearing 15 or 16, whereupon an empty winding core 2 with the winding tape 6 wound on its outside 5 is placed on the bearing 15, 16.

The unwinding of the printed products 25 is now explained below with reference to FIG. 15.

In this FIG. 15 an unwinding station 26 is shown, which is basically constructed in the same way as the winding station l2 according to FIG. 14. The unwinding station 26 is provided with two unwinding points 27, 28 arranged one above the other, each of which has a bearing 29 or 30 for the winding cores 2. For each unwinding point 27, 28 there is a spool 31 or 32, on which the winding tape 6 is wound into a tape roll 33. The winding tape 6 is guided over guide rollers 34 and 35. In order to lead the unwound printed products 25 away from each unwinding point 27, 28, there are two path conveyors 36 and 37, only shown schematically, to which a path leading device 38 connects them. The initial parts 36a, 37a of the conveyors 36, 37 are designed as pivotable rockers.

After the winding core 2 of a winding 8 has been placed on the bearing 29 or 30, the free end of the winding tape 8 is guided over the guide roller 34 or 35 to the coil 3l or 32 and connected to it. This coil 3l, 32 and possibly also the guide rollers 34, 35 are then driven in a manner not shown in detail. As a result, the winding tape 6 is pulled off the winding 8 and wound up on the reel 31, 32 to form a tape winding 33. The scale formation S runs from the winding 8 which rotates in the direction of the arrow D and is slightly braked, as is shown at the upper unwinding point 27. The developed scale formation S is led away in the direction of arrow E.

If all printed products 25 are unwound from the winding core 2, then this is driven in the opposite direction, ie in the direction of the arrow F, as shown at the lower unwinding point 28 in a manner not shown. The winding tape 6 will now unwound from the possibly slightly braked tape winding 33 and wound onto the outside 5 of the winding core until the entire winding tape 6 is on the winding core 2. As explained with reference to FIG. 2, the free end of the winding tape 6 is releasably held on the outermost complete turn. The empty winding core 2 with the wound winding tape 6 can now be removed and replaced by a new winding 8. This empty winding core 2 can now be used again for rewinding printed products 25.

The winding tape 6 is always transported along its entire length with the winding core 2 and stored. The winding tape 6 is either wound over its entire length on the outside 5 of the winding core 2 or forms the separating layers between the winding layers 9 of the winding 8 with at least part of its length, since only the length of tape from the winding core 2 required to form a winding 8 is unwound, no tape residue remains on the spools l7 or l8 after the completion of a roll 8. Thus, with a winding tape 6 of a certain length, winding 8 with different requirements for winding tape length can be formed without the winding tape 6 having to be cut in two or at the end of the winding process, the remaining length of the winding tape has to be wound onto the outside of the winding 8, which would result in a loss of time .

The described winding cores 2 can not only be wound up with printed products 25 but also empty, i.e. store only with wound winding tape 6, to save space. Thanks to their simple construction, the winding cores 2 can be easily manufactured and handled.

The winding units 1 are particularly suitable for the formation of coils 8 of not too large diameter, i.e. of those with a diameter of less than 2 meters.
