Claims (17)

1. Apparatus for producing prismatic or frusto- conical logs from tree trunks with two or more opposed cutting machining tools (13, 14) for producing plane side faces on the tree trunk and with devices for controlled movement of the machining tools towards each other, characterised by
- a clamping apparatus (5, 11) which keeps the tree trunk stationary at several points from above and below,
- a guide device (16) for guided displacement of the machining tools (13, 14) along straight guide rails (20, 22) which form an acute angle with the longitudinal axis of the space for holding the tree trunk and extend on both sides of the space,
- an adjuster (27, 28, 29) for adjusting the lateral spacing of the guide rails at the beginning and end of the apparatus, and
- a drive mechanism (23) for driven displacement of the machining tools.
2. Apparatus according to claim 1, characterised in that the clamping apparatuses are designed as supports (5) which are applied to the tree trunk (4) from below and are adjustable in height to a limited extent, and hold-down devices (11) applied to the tree trunk (4) from above.

Apparatus according to claim 1 or 2, characterised in that pivotable lifting arms (7, 8) are coupled by means of fluid-driven motors (9, 10) or the like to the supports (5) which are applied to the tree trunk (4) from below, wherein these lifting arms (7, 8) are designed as supports for depositing or removing a tree trunk (4).
4. Apparatus according to claim 1, characterised in that the guides (16) for the machining tools (13, 14) are displaceable symmetrically from both sides to and from the axis (30) of the tree trunk (4) (Fig. 4).
5. Apparatus according to claim 4, characterised in that for displacement of the guides (16) at their ends are provided adjusting spindles (27, 28) with oppositely directed threaded sections for which nuts are disposed on the guides (16).

Apparatus according to claim 4 or 5, characterised in that the guides (16) after adjustment thereof in the desired inclined position to the axis (30) of the tree trunk (4) can be fixed relative to the frame (1, 2, 3) of the apparatus with fasteners distributed over their length, wherein the fasteners are preferably designed as clamping screws (26).
7. Apparatus according to any of claims 1 to 6, characterised in that each machining tool (13, 14) is mounted on a plate (17) which comprises rollers (18, 21) at the top and bottom by which it is slidable in guide rails (20, 22) mounted one above the other.
8. Apparatus according to claim 7, characterised in that the lower rollers are grooved rollers (18) which roll over a rib (19) of a T-section rail (20), and at least one upper roller (21) is provided which engages from below in a U-section rail (22).
9. Apparatus according to claim 7 or 8, characterised in that traction spindles (23) or cables or chains are provided for movement of the plates (17) with the machining tools (13, 14) along the guides (16).
10. Apparatus according to any of claims 7 to 9, characterised in that the machining tools (13, 14) are displaceable with their guides (20, 22) perpendicularly to the axis (30) of the tree trunk (4).
11. Apparatus according to any of claims 1 to 3, characterised in that the machining tools (13, 14) are displaceable relative to plates (17) carrying them by means of adjusting spindles, fluid-driven motors or the like.
12. Apparatus according to claim 11, characterised in that transverse movement of the machining tools (13, 14) relative to the plates (17) carrying them is directly proportional to movement of the plates in the longitudinal direction of the tree trunk (4) to be machined.
13. Apparatus according to claim 11 or 12, characterised in that movement of the machining tools (13,
14) perpendicularly to the plates (17) carrying them is carried out by drive means which are in turn controllable by the movement of the plates relative to the frame (1, 2, 3) of the apparatus.
14. Apparatus according to any of claims 11 to 13, characterised in that the drive means for movement of the machining tools are designed as speed reduction gears driven by the drive spindles (23) for the plates (17).
15. Apparatus according to any of claims 10 to 13, characterised in that the drive means for movement of the machining tools (13, 14) consist of rollers which roll over the guides (20, 22) for the plates (17).
16. Apparatus according to any of claims 10 to 14, characterised in that the drive means for transverse movement of the machining tools (13, 14) or for movement thereof relative to the plates (17) carrying them are controllable electrically or electronically, wherein incremental pick-ups which detect the relative movement between machining tool (13, 14) and tree trunk (4) and mechanical and/or electric stepping motors.
