Description

The invention relates to a system for the self-production of cigarettes according to the preamble of claim 1, and a method for producing a cigarette using the system.

The production of cigarettes by the consumer has long been known in many forms. This applies above all to the so-called self-rolling of cigarettes using cigarette paper papers provided with adhesive rubber. Rolling cigarettes yourself requires a certain amount of manual skill and time. The cigarettes themselves are very different in size (diameter), strength (plumpness) and filling level over the length of the cigarette, even with practiced self-rolling, and are only a primitive replacement for industrially manufactured cigarettes. Another disadvantage of manual self-turning is the inevitable crumbling of tobacco, which also affects the tobacco yield. The same problems - albeit reduced - also occur when using self-turning devices.

A relief for the self-rolling of cigarettes was apparently hoped for by the provision of a tobacco product according to NL-A-6 703 935, namely consisting of a tobacco portion adapted to the tobacco filling of a finished cigarette, the outer surface of which was formed from a wrapping of material completely consumable by smoking is, the wrapping is so permeable to air that the tobacco portion as such is not smokable like a cigarette. A conventional cigarette paper sheet should be wrapped around this tobacco portion and a gluable cigarette produced and glued in a manner known per se. This type of self-rolling of cigarettes is not practicable, since it is almost impossible - even for experienced self-movers - to wrap the cigarette paper around the tobacco portion and keep it tight. The cigarette paper always tends to spread flat again. It can therefore not be avoided that the sleeve obtained when wrapping the cigarette paper papers has a noticeably larger diameter than the tobacco portion and also varies over the length of the tobacco portion. The consequence of this is that inadmissible secondary air ducts are created, through which the cigarette paper burns out in an uncontrolled manner and the cigarette can no longer be smoked, or can only be smoked to a limited extent and with different qualities. This is certainly the reason why the known system has not found its way into practice, although there was already a strong need for easier self-production of cigarettes at that time, both from a tax law and handling point of view. Otherwise, conventional cigarette papers are longitudinally folded. This longitudinal fold is not completely lost when the cigarette paper papers are wrapped around the tobacco portion, so that an inadmissible secondary air duct cannot be avoided. The known system close to NL-A-6 703 935 is therefore generally more disadvantageous than conventional self-turning with loose tobacco.

  • - eine ihrem Gewicht nach bestimmte Tabakschnittmenge wird in eine metallische Formhüllung eingeführt;
  • - die Form wird einer Erwärmung zwischen 60° -80°C ausgesetzt, wobei die Erwärmungszeit von der Art der Tabakschnitte abhängt;
  • - schnelle Abkühlung der Form auf 6° - 8°C.
It is quite similar with the system according to DE-A-889 578, which describes a method for producing tobacco products by providing a system consisting of a finished sleeve made of cigarette paper or the like and one which is adapted to the quantity of tobacco in a finished cigarette and is inserted into the cigarette paper sleeve insertable portion of tobacco in the form of a tobacco stick, which is well permeable to air. The tobacco stick is made as follows:
  • - a tobacco cut quantity determined by its weight is introduced into a metallic molded casing;
  • - The mold is subjected to a heating between 60 ° -80 ° C, the heating time depending on the type of tobacco cuts;
  • - rapid cooling of the mold to 6 ° - 8 ° C.

Separate form-stabilizing agents, especially binders, to hold the tobacco stick together should be expressly avoided. This means that the tobacco sticks obtained are extremely fragile with the risk that they easily break and also crumble when removed from the mold. Furthermore, the tobacco rods produced by the described method do not have a smooth outer surface. Rather, the product removed from the molded casing is a rod-shaped "broom", which cannot be inserted into a prefabricated cigarette paper sleeve without damaging it. Tests have confirmed this. Accordingly, the tobacco rod obtained by the process described must have a noticeably smaller diameter than the cigarette paper tube which is to be slipped over the tobacco rod to produce a cigarette. Otherwise, there would also be no point in exerting an external, longitudinally distributed finger pressure on the objects thus combined in order to loosen the tobacco rod and thus fill the tobacco receiving space of the cigarette paper tube with the loosened tobacco.

In the known system it is therefore necessary to exert an external finger pressure on the combined objects in order to break open the tobacco rod. On the one hand, this subsequent manipulation involves the risk that the cigarette produced is literally "crumpled". On the other hand, it cannot be reliably avoided in the known system that the tobacco rod falls out of the prefabricated paper wrapper if it is handled inappropriately. Finally, tobacco crumbling cannot be safely avoided by subsequent manipulation. The process described for the production of the tobacco rod, in which the tobacco cuts are heated to a temperature of up to 100 ° C., the flavors are volatile, among which is the feature that is particularly important for the consumer "Good taste" of the manufactured cigarette is lost. Accordingly, the system according to DE-A-889 578 is not a practical solution.

Nach dem Grundgedanken dieses Vorschlages wird dem Verbraucher eine genau dosierte, nämlich der Füllmenge einer herkömmlichen, industriellen Konsumzigarette entsprechende Tabakmenge in Form einer Zigarettentabak-Patrone zur Verfügung gestellt, deren Tabakfüllung in eine vorgefertigte Zigarettenhülse handelsüblicher Art überführbar ist.DE-U-8 326 921 has recently proposed a tobacco product for the self-manufacture of cigarettes by the consumer, which is characterized by a non-smokable prefabricated product in the form of a prefabricated tobacco cartridge consisting of an open end with its diameter of the cigarette paper tube the finished cigarette wrapper and a cigarette-like tobacco filling, each corresponding to a cigarette portion, which can be transferred from the cigarette wrapper into an empty cigarette paper sleeve by an associated piston adapted to the inside diameter of the cigarette sleeve. This tobacco product is suitable for use in connection with conventional self-filling cigarette tubes as well as in connection with conventional self-rolling papers. According to the basic idea of this proposal, the consumer is provided with a precisely metered amount of tobacco, namely the amount of a conventional industrial consumer cigarette, in the form of a cigarette tobacco cartridge, the tobacco filling of which can be converted into a prefabricated cigarette tube of a commercially available type.

Although the latter proposal is a very considerable improvement over the prior art mentioned, it cannot be overlooked that the tobacco cartridge has a casing, namely a casing, made of non-smokable material. With regard to the end product "cigarette", the strand casing represents a superfluous auxiliary material that can only be used once. Furthermore, in the latter proposal, further aids are required for transferring the pre-portioned tobacco supply from the strand casing into the cigarette paper sleeve, at least one ejection slide. The handling of the same without further aids for inserting the filled tobacco cartridge into the empty cigarette paper tube and holding the strand casing of the tobacco cartridge when transferring the tobacco supply should pose difficulties even for experienced in-house cigarette manufacturers.

Starting from the aforementioned prior art, the present invention is based on the object of creating a system of the type mentioned at the outset with which the self-manufacture of cigarettes which are readily comparable to those of factory-made cigarettes and which consist of a tobacco portion consisting exclusively of smokable material and a cigarette paper tube without subsequent Manipulation and also without aids, such as ejection slide or the like, is possible.

This object is achieved according to the invention by the system specified in claim 1. With regard to the use of this system for producing a cigarette, reference is made to claim 12.

Similar to the proposal according to DE-U-83 26 921 or NL-A-6 703 935, the invention creates a system for in-house manufacture of cigarettes which technically and economically optimally takes advantage of the highly developed, largely automated industrial Makes cigarette manufacturing technology serviceable for the needs of the increasing number of self-rolling or self-tampering by providing them with a preliminary product suitable for the problem-free completion of the cigarette by the consumer. Compared to the known systems, the invention is characterized in particular by the fact that apparatus aids for the in-house production of cigarettes are not absolutely necessary and that in particular the industrially prefabricated preliminary products with the exception of the filter - if such a filter is provided or desired - are completely smokable. H. consist of smokable materials. Subsequent manipulations of the objects combined, namely the cigarette tube and tobacco portion, can also be dispensed with. After combining these two items, the cigarette is ready. There is also no need for a wrapper for the tobacco product as a disposable auxiliary. Finally, it is no longer necessary to transfer the tobacco supply from a wrapper into the cigarette paper tube, which definitely requires a certain skill, especially if suitable aids or devices are not available. Furthermore, in the system according to the invention, the effects of moisture on the tobacco supply no longer play a role when it is transferred into a cigarette paper tube. The tobacco product according to the invention always maintains its original or industrially predetermined shape and dimension.

If the tobacco portion is approximately tapered or "tapered" at least on one of its end sections, the described combination of tobacco portion and cigarette paper tube is much easier. The tobacco portion can then easily be inserted into a pre-made cigarette paper tube even with shaky hands.

Weitere vorteilhafte Details bzw. Further advantageous details or further developments of the system according to the invention and of the method using this system are described in the remaining claims.

The self-production of a filter cigarette using the system according to the invention is described in more detail with reference to the drawing. This shows an industrially prefabricated, dimensionally stable tobacco portion 10 in association with a likewise industrially prefabricated cigarette paper tube 11 with filter 12. The tobacco portion 10 should only consist of tobacco fibers which are held together by a conventional type of binder to form a dimensionally stable tobacco rod. The outside diameter of the tobacco rod is chosen to be somewhat larger than the inside diameter of the cigarette paper tube 11, preferably about 5 to 10% larger, so that it can be transferred into the tobacco receiving space 16 of the cigarette paper tube 11 with radial compression. For this purpose, the tobacco rod is placed in a compression chamber 26 of a conventional stopper device for cigarette paper tubes and compressed in this in the radial direction, that is, brought to an outer diameter that is preferably slightly smaller than the inner diameter of the cigarette paper tube 11 attached cigarette paper tube 11 transferred. In the accompanying drawing, only a part of the tamping device is shown very schematically, since this is a device known per se. For this purpose, reference is made to DE-C-2 139 242 or DE-C-2 064 641 or DE-A-2 833 681 only by way of example. The pressing chamber 26 is thus defined in a manner known per se by a first half-shell 27 fixed to the housing and an associated pressing bar 28 which forms a second half-shell and which is mounted in the housing of the tamping device, not shown, in the direction of the arrow "K".

In the context of the invention, solutions are also conceivable in which the tobacco rod is longitudinally divided, the cross section of each part corresponding to a preferably straight part of the cross section of the cigarette paper tube.

The tobacco rod can be composed of two strand halves, three or more strand segments or inserted sleeves. Two, three or more strand parts must then be used in a corresponding manner to fill the cigarette paper tube.

It is equally conceivable that the cross section of the tobacco rod corresponds to a multiple of the cross section of the cigarette paper tube, for example twice, in which case the tobacco rod preferably has the cross section of an "8". Before use, the tobacco stick is broken apart along a connecting web or the like, so that two individual tobacco sticks are created, each of which is used to fill a cigarette paper tube. It is equally conceivable that the tobacco rod comprises three or more individual tobacco rods which are arranged in a star-like manner or around a central tobacco rod.

The system according to the invention is also suitable, for example, for the in-house production of cigars or the like.

Claims (14)

1. A system for making one's own cigarettes, more particularly filter cigarettes, comprising:
(a) a prefabricated cigarette paper tube (11), and
(b) a portion of tobacco sufficient for the filling of a finished cigarette and insertable into the cigarette paper tube (11), the surface of the tobacco portion being so permeable to air that it cannot be smoked by itself characterised in that
(c) the tobacco portion is held together by a binder which joins the tobacco fibres together and is itself smokable, to form a dimensionally stable tobacco rod (10) which in cross-section and length matches the tobacco-holding compartment (16) in the cigarette paper tube (11), so that
(d) the tobacco rod retains its preset shape and tightly fits against the inner suface of the cigarette paper tube (11) when inserted into it to make the finished cigarette.
2. A system according to claim 1, characterised in that the tobacco rod (10) has a round cross-section corresponding to the cross-section of the cigarette paper tube, the diameter of the tobacco rod (10) being only slightly (about 1/20 to 3/10 mm) less than the inside diameter of the cigarette paper tube, so that the tobacco rod (10) is closely surrounded by the cigarette paper tube.
3. A system according to claim 1 or 2, characterised in that a conventional filter piece (12) is attached to one end of the tobacco rod (10).
4. A system according to any one of claims 1 to 3, characterised in that at least one end portion of the tobacco rod (10) is given an approximately conical taper.
5. A system according to claim 1, 3 and/or 4, characterised in that the tobacco rod (10) has an outside diameter which is somewhat greater than the inside diameter of the cigarette paper tube (11), so that it is radially compressed when inserted into the tube (11).
6. A system according to any one of the preceding claims, characterised in that the tobacco rod (10) is longitudinally divided, and the cross-section of each part corresponds to a preferably straight part of the cross-section of the cigarette paper tube (11).
7. A system according to claim 6, characterised in that the tobacco rod (10) is put together from strand halves or segments or husks pushed inside one another.
8. A system according to any one of the preceding claims, characterised in that the cross-section of the tobacco rod (10) is a multiple of the cross-section of the cigarette paper tube (11), and preferably is in the shape of an "8" or the like.
9. A system according to any one of claims 1 to 8, characterised in that the tobacco-holding compartment of the cigarette paper tube (11) has a length greater than the tobacco rod (10), preferably a length equal to an integral multiple of the length of the tobacco rod (10).
10. A system according to any one of claims 1 to 9, characterised in that the tobacco rod (10) has a greater length than, preferably twice the length, of the tobacco-holding compartment of the cigarette-paper tube (11), so that at least two cigarette paper tubes (11) can be slid over the tobacco rod (10) and the tobacco rod can be cut at the join between the two cigarette paper tubes (11).
11. A system according to any one of claims 1 to 10, characterised in that when the tobacco rod (10) is inserted into the cigarette paper tube (11), it can be locally compressed immediately before entering the tube, preferably by an insertion tube (18) which can be attached to the cigarette paper tube (11) when the tobacco rod is inserted into it and which has an inside diameter smaller than the outside diameter of the tobacco rod (10).
