Abstract

A screened vehicular headlight with an ellipsoidal reflector has a source of light positioned in the reflector's first focal area. The headlight has a collecting lens positioned in the path of the rays behind the second focal area and accommodated in a rectangular area of a holder. A screen that produces a light-dark border is positioned between the collecting lens and the reflector and in the focal area of the lens. A transparent cover over the collecting lens has margins extending radially beyond the lens. The holder that accommodates the collecting lens has, above the horizontal midplane of the headlight, an upper marginal section that is bent toward the inside of the headlight and lateral marginal sections that extend out at an acute angle to the optical axis and extend far enough into the headlight to screen off not only the light that leaves bulb and directly strikes the marginal areas of the lens cover that extend radially beyond the collecting lens but also the view into the headlight through the marginal areas of the lens cover.

Description

The invention relates to a dimmed vehicle headlamp with an ellipsoidal reflector, with a light source arranged in the first focal point of the reflector, with a converging lens arranged in the beam path behind the second focal point, which is inserted into a flat part of a frame corresponding to the size of the lens. which has an angled edge towards the headlight inside, which merges into the support arms, which are attached with their free end to the outer reflector edge, with an aperture arranged between the collecting lens and the reflector in the focal point of the collecting lens, the upper, essentially horizontally running edge of which is the light / Dark border is generated and with a translucent cover plate covering the converging lens with edge areas protruding in the radial direction.

A dimmed vehicle headlight of this type is known from DE-GM 84 30 630, in which the flat part of the frame receiving the collecting lens has a circumferential edge which is angled toward the headlight interior for stiffening. The edge merges into the support arms which are fastened with their free end to the outer reflector edge. The aperture arranged at the focal point of the converging lens is attached to two support arms. In such a headlight, light rays emerging directly from the light source go out between the flat part of the frame and the outer boundary of the headlight. The upward light beams not only dazzle an oncoming driver, but there is also self-glare from the light beams reflected in fog, rain or snow. In addition, there is no harmonic when the vehicle headlights are switched off Overall impression, since the viewer can see the interior of the headlight between the converging lens and the outer boundary of the headlight.

From DE-OS 32 18 703 a dimmed vehicle headlight is known, in which the converging lens is surrounded by a translucent disk which directs the interference rays emerging directly from the light source in the desired direction. It has been shown here that the driver is not completely switched off by reflected interference rays in fog, rain or snow. The translucent pane surrounding the converging lens should be made of highly heat-resistant material because of the high temperatures occurring in the converging lens. This makes the translucent pane very expensive to manufacture.

The object of the invention is to design the dimmed vehicle headlights described in the generic term in such a way that both direct from the light source on the radially projecting edge regions of the cover plate impinging and upwardly directed light beams and the view through the edge regions of the cover plate into the headlight interior are shielded are without increasing the manufacturing costs and complicating the assembly.

This object is achieved according to the invention by the design of the frame carrying the converging lens specified in the characterizing part of claim 1.

Such a headlamp has a uniform appearance when switched off, since light rays hitting the edge angled toward the headlamp interior are not reflected to the outside and produce a bright ring around the converging lens, but are reflected into the interior of the headlamp.

In the case of very flat headlights, the upper edge section of the frame can be angled at an angle of 90 ° to the interior of the headlight, whereas in the case of a higher headlight it is advantageous if the upper edge section of the frame is exposed to the outside at an acute angle to the optical axis.

It is also advantageous if the planar part of the frame receiving the converging lens is rectangular and the frame and the edge sections of the rectangular part which are angled towards the headlight or extend at an acute angle to the optical axis are made in one piece from a sheet metal plate and the edge sections are cut free between two adjacent support arms and bent outwards. Such a solution is very simple and can be manufactured very inexpensively.

It is also advantageous if the surfaces of the frame facing the translucent cover pane are designed to be reflective. As a result, the appearance of the headlamp according to the projection principle when switched off is very similar to a conventional headlamp.

In the drawing, a vehicle headlight for fog is shown, the rectangular, translucent cover plate (1) is glued at its outer peripheral edge to the frame (2) which is screwed to the housing (3) of the headlight (not shown). The frame (2) has a sleeve-shaped section (4) which is directed into the headlight interior and which is fixed with its free end to the outer circumferential edge (5) of the reflector (6). The inner reflection surface of the reflector (6) forms a semi-ellipse in the axial central sections. The apex (S) and the associated inner focal point (F) of the semi-ellipses are congruent. The eccentricity of the ellipses increases from the vertical axial central section to the horizontal axial central section. The reflector (6) can also be designed as a strictly ellipsoid of revolution.

The incandescent lamp (7) is inserted into an opening (8) made to the side of the reflector (6) so that the depth for the retrofittable headlight is as small as possible. The filament of the incandescent lamp (7) is arranged in the inner focal point (F) of the reflector (6) and has a lengthwise extension transverse to the optical axis. The converging lens (9) and the diaphragm (10) arranged in the focal point of the converging lens are firmly inserted into the annular, planar part (11) of the frame (12) made of sheet metal. The outer dimensions of the ring-shaped part (11) correspond to a rectangle, which on its four edges each has an edge section (13, 14, 15 and 16) that is angled toward the headlight interior. The lateral edge sections (13 and 14) or the upper and lower edge sections (15 and 16) are at an acute angle (α or β) to the optical axis. In the corner areas of the Rectangular part (11), the edge sections (13 and 14), which spring back into the headlight interior, merge into support arms (17), which run in the longitudinal direction parallel to the optical axis and with the free end (20) angled outwards on the reflector edge (5) are fixed. The edge sections (13, 14 and 15) extend so far into the headlight interior that both the light directed directly from the incandescent lamp (7) onto the edge regions of the cover plate (1) projecting radially beyond the collecting lens and the view through the edge regions of the cover plate (1) are shielded into the headlight interior. The lower edge section (16) only serves to stiffen the rectangular part (11),
