- the present invention relates to a new device intended to attenuate the vibrations of a tennis ball when striking the ball. It is well known that each stroke struck with the racket causes high frequency vibrations of the racket, and that these vibrations are attributed to the harmful effects on the player, in the hand and arm, including affection known as "tennis elbow".
- This means consists of a removable device, which, once in place, exerts a pressure and spreading effect simultaneously on four contiguous cords, namely two transverse cords and two longitudinal cords defining the square in which the device is housed.
- the damping device is in the form of a disc of elastomeric material, the thickness of which is of the order of ten millimeters and which has on its periphery a groove in which the four cords are housed concerned, the diameter of the disc at the bottom of this groove being approximately 2mm greater than the spacing between two parallel strings, so that once in place in a square, the device determines a spacing of the two parallel strings of each couple, and consequently an additional tension effect distributed equidirectionally on the four sides of the square.

- the device can be circular or slightly oblong. It can also consist of a solid disc or a ring as shown. We can also give it any other shape (square, etc ). - the embodiment shown in section in FIG. 4 differs from the previous one in that, instead of a steel ball, trapped between two membranes, there is provided, for the same effect, a counterweight 14 molded in a single piece with a single membrane 15, itself integral with the torus 10.
- the connection zones 16 of this torus 10 with the membrane 15 are advantageously chamfered.
- the counterweight 12 or 14 when the racket hits the ball will receive the vibrations of the racket, transmitted by the membrane (s), and experience shows that thanks to the presence of this vibrating, foreign element with the racket, the composition of the various phenomena leads to an almost total cancellation of the harmful vibrations of the racket.
- FIG. 5 shows another embodiment of such a counterweight, this time consisting of two square plates 18 and 18 ′ joined by four colonettes 17 made of elastomeric material, coming to be placed inside the square formed by the four cords C, by exerting on them a push towards the outside.
