  • backfeed of the yarn is completed before withdrawal of newly spun yarn is begun. It is important that a controlled length of backfed yarn should penetrate into or overlap with the fibers in the rotor groove in order to ensure adequate twist transference from the yarn to those fibers. It is thus important to provide a carefully controlled length of yarn from the clamp 134 (Fig. 9) to the prepared yarn end. Furthermore, the location of clamp 134 as close as possible to, but downstream from, the nip rolls 52, 54 helps to minimize this defined yarn length. This in turn assists in reducing variability which might be introduced due to variable stretchability of different yarn types. Some stretching of the yarn must be anticipated.
  • Clamp 134 is released automatically by linkage (not shown) to the return movement of the nip roll to forward yarn to the package 20.

  • low speed piecing (whether it is effected on the rotor acceleration curve or at a predetermined constant speed which is lower than the normal operating speed) introduces complication in matching the fiber feed and the withdrawal speed to the rotor speed as the rotor accelerates from its piecing speed to its normal operating speed after a successful piecing operation.
  • the failure of such matching results in production of a substantial length of yam having a totally different character from the yarn produced at normal rotor speed.
  • the matching process necessitates, however, direct intervention of the piecer in control of the relevant spinning station to control its operating characteristics during the acceleration phase.
  • the principles described with reference to Fig. 2 enable as many features as possible to be held constant, reducing variability in the piecing process.
  • the rotor speed is held constant during the piecing operation, preferably at the normal operating speed so that no subsequent matching of feed and withdrawal speeds has to be effected during a rotor acceleration phase.

Maintenance of these constant conditions enables the piecer to obtain close control over the final piecing phase and also enables the piecer to use the withdrawal system of the spinning station, despite minor variability from station to station.
  • the system is not limited to details of the mechanisms shown in the Figures. Nor is it limited to dealing with piecing of a broken end which has wound up on a package.
  • the piecer Upon starting up of a machine, or after doffing of a full package, it may be necessary for the piecer to restart the spinning operation when there is no yarn already available at the spinning station itself.
  • the piecer can carry an auxiliary yarn package (171, Fig. 4) from which yarn can be drawn for insertion into the spinning unit to piece with a fiber ring formed in the rotor of the unit.
  • auxiliary yarn can then be transferred to a bobbin tube inserted in the package cradle of the spinning station, and the auxiliary yarn can be separated from the piecer so that further take-up is effected by the station.

Threading of auxiliary yarn into the piecing system is identical to threading of a broken end; however, a knife (not shown) in forwarding means 172 is operated simultaneously with the abrading roller, so that the loop of thread drawn into the nozzle is taken up thereby.
  • Forwarding means 172 preferably includes both a positive forwarding means (e.g. a driven roller pair) and an air stream to direct the yarn end to the nozzle in means 174.
  • Package 171 is replaceably supported on a carrier 169 mounted in the tender and enabling required withdrawal of yarn from the package.
  • the forwarding means is operated to forward thread from package 171 until the yarn has been clamped by clamp 124.
  • the suction nozzle in means 174 draws yarn continuously, but is of course ineffective to move the thread while either of clamps 124,13.4 is effective.

Claims (10)

1. Appareil rattacheur balladeur servant à faire les rattaches dans une machine à filer à bout ouvert à rotors, du type qui comprend une pluralité de postes de filage dont chacun possède une unité de filage (10) avec un rotor (34), un moyen de formation de bobine (14) afin de former une bobine de fil avec le fil fabriqué dans l'unité de filage (10), une paire de rouleaux pinceurs (52, 54) pour extraire le fil en dehors de l'unité (10) afin d'alimenter le moyen de formation de bobine (14) cité, ainsi qu'un moyen alimentaire (30) qui est commandable au choix afin d'alimenter en fibres l'unité citée (10) et de filer ainsi un fil, et également un moyen de commande pour entraîner le rotor (34) avec un nombre de tours de marche prédéterminé, et pour commander le moyen de formation de bobine (14), la paire de rouleaux pinceurs (52, 54) et le moyen alimentaire (30) dans des relations prédéterminées par rapport au nombre de tours de marche cité auparavant, et où l'appareil rattacheur (72) comprend un moyen (76) pour séparer lesdits rouleaux pinceurs (52, 54) l'un de l'autre, qui est caractérisé par un moyen (78) servant à la formation d'une réserve de fil d'implantation qui est commandable d'une manière contrôlable pour libérer cette réserve de fil pour l'alimentation en retour dans le rotor (34), par un moyen (82) servant à amorcer la commande dudit moyen alimentaire (30), et par un moyen de contrôle (84) réagissant aux conditions de l'unité de filage (10), moyen qui est opérationnel lorsque l'unité de filage (10) se trouve dans une condition prédéterminée dans laquelle une séquence prédéterminée est enclenchée et qui est:
- commande du moyen alimentaire (30),
- commande dudit moyen de formation de réserve de fil (78) afin de libérer la réserve de fil citée, et
- réengagement des rouleaux pinceurs cités (52, 54) afin de réaliser l'extraction du fil d'implantation et du fil nouvellement filé,

et où le moyen de contrôle (84) contient un moyen de synchronisation (figure 12) afin de déterminer le moment de mise en route du réengagement cité depuis un temps de référence prédéterminé (figure 2).
2. Appareil selon revendication 1, caractérisé par le fait que ledit moyen de synchronication (figure 12) est commandable afin de fixer le début de l'opération du moyen de formation de réserve de fil (78) depuis le même temps de référence (figure 2).
3. Appareil selon revendication 1 ou revendication 2, caractérisé par le fait que le moyen de contrôle cité (84) est commandable afin de commencer ladite séquence après que l'unité de filage (10) aura atteint sa vitesse de marche prédéterminée.
4. Appareil selon l'une quelconque des revendications 1 à 3, caractérisé par le fait que le moyen de séparation cité (76) comprend un moyen de retenue libérable (162) qui est commandable afin de maintenir dans une position ouverte lesdits rouleaux pinceurs (52, 54), contre l'effet du moyen presseur (154) qui presse les rouleaux pinceurs (52, 54) vers la position fermée.
5. Appareil selon revendication 4, caractérisé par le fait que le moyen de séparation (76) comprend un moyen (159) qui est commandable afin de maintenir un espace relativement important entre les rouleaux pinceurs (52, 54), pour permettre l'alimentation d'un fil d'implantation entre ces rouleaux, et où le moyen de retenue cité (162) est commandable afin de maintenir un espace relativement petit entre les rouleaux pinceurs (52, 54).
6. Appareil selon l'une quelconque des revendications 1 à 5, caractérisé par le fait que le moyen de formation de réserve (78) comprend un moyen de force (140, 144) qui produit la libération du fil dans sa position de réserve, et un moyen de retenue (148) qui maintient la réserve contre l'action du moyen de force (140, 144).
7. Appareil selon l'une quelconque des revendications 1 à 6 comprenant un moyen (124, 134) pour définir une longueur prédéterminée de fil d'implantation qui se situe entre les rouleaux pinceurs cités (52, 54) et le moyen de formation de réserve cité (78), et un moyen (138) afin d'amener ledit fil d'implantation dans l'unité de filage (10), le moyen de formation de réserve (78) étant commandable pendant la manipulation du fil d'implantation afin de maintenir tendue la longueur de fil citée (L).
8. Méthode de rattache pour une machine à filer à rotors comprenant une pluralité de postes de filage dont chacun possède une unité de filage (10) avec un rotor (34), un moyen de formation de bobine (14) afin de former une bobine de fil avec le fil fabriqué dans l'unité de filage (10), une paire de rouleaux pinceurs (52, 54) pour extraire le fil en dehors de l'unité de filage (10) et l'introduire dans le moyen de formation de bobine cité (14), ainsi qu'un moyen alimentaire (30) qui est commandable au choix afin d'alimenter en fibres l'unité citée (10) et de filer ainsi un fil, et également un moyen de commande pour entraîner le rotor (34) avec un nombre de tours de marche prédéterminé et pour commander à des vitesses correspondantes le moyen de formation de bobine (14), la paire de rouleaux pinceurs (52, 54) et le moyen alimentaire (30) dans des relations prédéterminées par rapport au nombre de tours de marche cité auparavant, ladite méthode comprenant comme étapes de procédé la séparation de la paire de rouleaux pinceurs et l'insertion du fil d'implantation avec la paire de rouleaux pinceurs, et qui est caractérisée par l'étape de formation d'une réserve de fil d'implantation citée, la libération de la réserve, l'alimentation du fil d'implantation cité en retour, depuis la réserve dans le rotor afin de joindre le fil avec l'anneau de fibres, et l'extraction du fil d'implantation joint au fil nouvellement formé par le réengagement de la paire de rouleaux pinceurs et définition d'une période de temps prédéterminée (T, figure 2) durant laquelle le fil d'implantation est alimenté en retour, et l'extraction du fil d'implantation commence après l'expiration de cette période de temps.
9. Méthode selon revendication 8 comprenant l'étape de procédé qui maintient la vitesse de l'unité de filage (10) constante pendant la période citée (T, figure 2).
10. Méthode selon revendication 9, caractérisée par le fait que l'unité de filage (10) est entraînée avec sa vitesse de marche prédéterminée pendant la période citée (T, figure 2).
