Definitions

  • the invention relates to a device for controlling the heating device of a binding device for binding loose sheets in cover blankets provided with a thermoplastic adhesive on the back, with a switch for switching on the heating device and with a switchable at the beginning of the binding cycle at elevated temperature, the end of the binding cycle a timer indicating a signal,
  • a binding device with a device for controlling the heating device is described in DE-A 2 743 685. It consists of a frame with two upright supporting walls, which form an insertion shaft between them for a cover filled with loose sheets. One of the support walls is slidably mounted so that the distance between the support walls can be adjusted according to the thickness of the cover. On the underside, the adjustment shaft is delimited by an installation surface which is provided with a heating device for heating this installation surface. The cover is placed with its back between the two supporting walls on this installation surface, so that the heating surface heated by the heating device can heat and thus plasticize the thermoplastic adhesive, also called hot-melt adhesive, located on the inside of the back of the cover. In this way, the lower edges of the loose sheets in the cover are wetted with the adhesive. After removing the cover, the thermoplastic adhesive cools down again and then solidifies, so that the sheets are firmly bound in the cover.
  • a binding cycle for heating a cover blanket is initiated by switching on the heating device by hand.
  • the end of the binding cycle is specified by a timer, which is started when the heating device is switched on.
  • the duration of the binding cycle can be set with a timer depending on the type of cover used and the thickness of the band to be bound.
  • the timer automatically switches off the heating device and gives an acoustic or visual signal at the same time.
  • This type of control of the heating device is structurally relatively simple. However, it has various disadvantages, which are particularly evident when, as is often the case, a large number of cover blankets are to be subjected to a binding cycle in succession. If the covers are of the same type and thickness, the duration of the binding cycle once set is always the same. However, this does not meet the actual requirements, because it takes considerably more time to heat up the cold binding device and thus for the first binding cycle than for a subsequent binding cycle in which the binding device is still hot. However, since the set period of time must depend on the most unfavorable conditions, i.e. a binding cycle that begins when the device is cold, the period of time is unnecessarily long for the following binding cycles. This considerably delays the heating of a large number of cover blankets. In addition, there is unnecessary energy expenditure.
  • Another disadvantage is that the heating device is switched off immediately after a binding cycle has ended. As a result, the binding device cools down considerably, so that it has to be heated again for a new binding cycle, which additionally costs energy and in particular time.
  • the binding cycle was shortened to a time period which is necessary for binding a cover blanket if this is placed in a device which has already been preheated.
  • the timer is switched on by a light barrier, which detects the cover after being inserted in the setting shaft, so that the binding cycle is started by the setting. Because of the shortened binding cycle, the cover may only be adjusted when the binding device or the heating device has reached a sufficient temperature.
  • the invention is therefore based on the object of designing a device for controlling the heating device of the binding device of the type mentioned at the outset in such a way that a reliable incorporation of paper sheets into cover covers is achieved with the least possible time and operating effort.
  • a temperature sensor is provided for detecting the temperature of the heating device, which is connected via an electronic circuit to the timer in such a way that it automatically switches on the timer only when a certain elevated temperature is reached, when the temperature of the heating device previously was below the certain elevated temperature, and that it automatically turns on the timer immediately when the temperature of the heart device is at or above the certain elevated temperature.
  • a temperature sensor and an electronic circuit are therefore provided which specify the condition for switching on the time switch, in contrast to all previously known designs according to the actual temperature state of the heating device.
  • the timer is only switched on when the specific, elevated temperature has been reached. Since this is done automatically by the electronics, the operator can adjust the cover back as soon as the heating device is switched on and then move away. It does not have to wait for a certain temperature of the heating device to be reached or for a ready signal to be displayed, so it can devote itself to other activities.
  • the binding device has been switched off in the meantime and has cooled down somewhat below the determined, elevated temperature. The lower this cooling is below this temperature, the shorter the heating-up time.
  • the entire period between hiring The cover and end of the binding cycle is thus shortened to an optimum without the operator having to do more than switch on the heating device and then pay attention to the signal for the end of the binding cycle. If the device has not yet cooled below the certain elevated temperature after switching off, the timer for the binding cycle is started immediately when the heating device is switched on, because the temperature sensor already detects a temperature when switching on that is at or above the certain elevated temperature.
  • the binding cycles and thus the timer can be started most simply by switching the binding device or its heating device off and on again immediately. It is also possible to provide a special switch for this, which does not interrupt the power supply for the heating device, but does start the timer.
  • an automatic system should also be provided for this purpose in such a way that a sensor is provided for detecting a cover blanket inserted in the binding device, which sensor is also connected to the timer via an electronic circuit in such a way that the timer is automatically switched on when the cover blanket is set, when the temperature sensor detects a temperature lying at or above the determined, elevated temperature.
  • the binding device designed in this way therefore operates fully automatically once the heating device is switched on.
  • two conditions must always be met for the start of the timer and thus the binding cycle, namely that the temperature of the heating device is at or above the specific, elevated temperature and that a cover is set in the binding device. As soon as both conditions are met, the timer is started automatically by the electronic circuit. The end of the binding cycle is then indicated by an optical or acoustic signal.
  • the sensor described above can also be coupled to the switch for switching on the heating device, in such a way that the heating device is automatically switched on when a cover is detected. This also automates the switching-on process for the heating device with the advantage that switching on the heating device after inserting a cover can no longer be forgotten. It is particularly advantageous if this sensor is used for both of the above-described purposes, that is, for switching on both the heating device and the timer.
  • the sensor for detecting the cover in the binding device should expediently be coupled to the switch for switching on the heating device in such a way that the heating device automatically — preferably after removal of a cover cover with a certain delay of one to five minutes. In this way, the device works fully automatically, which relieves the burden on office operations.
  • the sensor for detecting the cover in the binding device for example mechanical buttons or the like.
  • a small light barrier is particularly suitable for this.
  • Other electronic sensors are also expedient in view of the electronic circuit that is present anyway.
  • the determined, elevated temperature is below the final temperature of the heating device.
  • a temperature of between approximately 90 ° C. and 130 ° C. has proven to be expedient.
  • the binding cycle is somewhat longer than if the final temperature were taken as a certain, elevated temperature.
  • this has proven to be expedient for subsequent binding cycles, since the bindings which are then still cold must first be heated by the hot heating device, which is not the case with bindings which are placed in the cold device and which heat up continuously with the heating device .
  • a power saving can be achieved in that the timer switches the heating device down to the specific, elevated temperature at the end of a binding cycle. The binding device is then still ready for the immediate start of a binding cycle.
  • the energy consumption is lower because the specific, elevated temperature in an expedient embodiment of the basic concept according to the invention is lower than the end temperature.
  • the timer can also be used to automatically switch off the heating device in a manner known per se in addition to emitting an optical or acoustic signal.
  • the binding device or its heating device would cool down very quickly to a temperature below the specific, elevated temperature due to the high temperature difference with the environment, with the result that a further binding cycle would only be started after a heating process. This results in wasted time, which can be very annoying in office operations. It has therefore proven to be expedient for the requirements in office operation that the timer only switches off the heating device after a certain time, which is calculated from the last binding cycle or - if none has taken place - from the switch-on time of the heating device.
  • This specific time is expediently between one and ten minutes, a time of five minutes having proven to be particularly suitable.
  • the heating device is not switched off, but only a signal is emitted.
  • the timer continues to run with a timer for a predetermined time until the heater is turned off. This has the advantage that subsequent binding cycles can be switched on immediately - either by hand or by adjusting the cover - so that the Time in which the cover is in the binding device is kept short. Only when the binding device is not used for a long time does it switch off in order to avoid unnecessary power consumption.
  • the temperature sensor is also part of a thermostat control for the heating device. It therefore also fulfills the function within the electronic circuit of keeping the heating device, once heated, at a constant temperature.
  • the temperature sensor is designed as a PTC resistor with positive temperature coefficients. If his power supply is interrupted, he shows the electronic control the highest resistance, so that the binding device is switched off either immediately after a binding cycle or - as shown above as an advantageous embodiment - after a certain time following a binding cycle or after the heating device has been switched on .
  • the invention provides that the determined, elevated temperature can be set to at least two different values.
  • the binding device can be adjusted to different types of cover blanket materials. For example, it is necessary to work at lower temperatures with plastic cover covers.
  • the electronic circuit for the functions described above can easily be produced by a person skilled in the art with the electronic elements belonging to the prior art. There is therefore no need for a detailed description of the electronic circuit.
