- the present invention relates to an alphanumeric display system in which the individual characters are composed of segments which are optionally made visible.
- Such display systems have become known in particular from the technology of display with the aid of liquid crystals or electro-luminescence. With regard to the shape and arrangement of the segments, the known systems can basically be divided into the two versions shown in FIGS. 1 on the one hand and 2 and 3 on the other hand.
- Figures 2 and 3 each show another known embodiment with 16 and 7 linear, i.e. segments each having a preferred axial direction, the embodiment according to FIG. 3 being suitable only for representing numbers.
- the individual segments are preferably individually controlled via individual lines.
- the readability can theoretically be increased arbitrarily by increasing the number of segments, but a greatly increased effort has to be accepted.
- the number of feed lines can indeed be reduced, provided that the segments are not driven sequentially in time, rather than individually, but as crossing points of row and column electrodes.
