Device associated with a packaging machine for forming groups of disc-shaped objects, particularly biscuits, standing on edge, which, by means of a first conveying device (4), can be fed individually in a horizontal position to a second radial conveying device (5) having a plurality of pushers (9), and, following a pivotal movement of the second conveying device (5) through at least approximately a quarter of a revolution, are pushed on to a collecting channel (11) by said pushers (9), said pushers (9) being pivoted in a limited manner on to the second conveying device (5), so that they can be pivoted from there into an inoperative position when the transfer point at the collecting channel (11) is reached, and further having first gripping means (14, 15) for moving a first group (12) of objects standing upright formed on the collecting channel (11), characterised by second gripping means (16, 17) for simultaneously conveying the first group (12) of objects moved by the first gripping means (14, 15) and at least one subsequent second group (13) to a transfer point (18) in order then to be transferred to a third conveying device (25), the linear velocity of the second gripping means (16, 17) being greater than that of the first gripping means (14, 15).

Device according to claim 1, characterised in that the first gripping means are formed by two forks (14, 15) disposed at the sides of the collecting channel (11), said forks being able to move transversely to the collecting channel on the one hand, and on the other hand in the longitudinal direction of the said collecting channel.

Device according to claim 1 or 2, characterised in that the second gripping means comprise at least two conveying fingers (16, 17) mounted on a lever arm (31), said fingers being able to move from above towards and away from the collecting channel (11) on the one hand, and on the other hand parallel to the said collecting channel.

Method of operation of the device according to claims 1 to 3 for forming groups of disc-shaped objects, particularly biscuits, standing on edge, which, by means of a first conveying device (4), are fed individually in a horizontal position to a second radial conveying device (5) having a plurality of pushers (9), and, following a pivotal movement of the second conveying device (5) through at least approximately a quarter of a revolution, are pushed on to a collecting channel (11) by said pushers (9), wherein the pushers (9) of the second conveying device (5) are pivoted in a limited manner on to this conveying device so they can be pivoted from there into an inoperative position when the transfer point at the collecting channel (11) is reached, wherein first gripping means (14, 15) each push a group (12) of objects of an exact number on to the collecting channel, characterised in that second gripping means (16, 17), which have a higher linear velocity than the linear velocity of the first gripping means (14, 15), simultaneously convey at least two groups (12, 13) disposed on the collecting channel (11) to a transfer point (18) for the simultaneous transfer of said groups to a third conveying device (25).
