Definitions

  • the invention relates to a mattress base with a rectangular frame, a number of spaced bars in the transverse direction of the frame and metal leaf springs attached between the ends of the bars and the longitudinal members of the frame, the ends of the bars above the level of the frame extend.
  • a mattress rack of the type mentioned is known from BE-A-745 379.
  • the ends of the slats lie within the level of the upper edge of the frame, and the metal leaf springs with which the ends of the slats are attached to the side members of the frame have an essentially upright U-shaped profile.
  • a disadvantage of this design is that the slats do not end above the longitudinal members of the frame, so that the longitudinal edges of the mattress are not spring-supported.
  • Another disadvantage is that a load exerted on the slatted frame, for example by a person sitting or lying on it, concentrates on a limited bending range of the springs, which can cause damage. Such damage caused by bending beyond the elastic area can occur to an even greater extent with C-shaped springs which are arranged in the central area of the slatted frame between overlapping ends of the slats and middle beams.
  • the resilient elements between the ends of the slats and the longitudinal members of the frame consist of a rubber strip, which is connected at one end via a further thickening with a spacer designed as a wooden block or metal profile.
  • the spacer has a curved area over which the rubber strip can roll.
  • the suspension comes from the fact that the rubber strips are loaded under tension. It is obvious that such rubber strips subject to tension can tear after a certain period of use. The lifespan of such known mattress gratings also leaves something to be desired.
  • the invention aims to eliminate the above-mentioned shortcomings of known mattress gratings and to create a mattress grate of the type mentioned, the simple shaped metal leaf springs are not exposed to any risk of damage due to bending beyond the elastic range when the grate is loaded, and in which the spring action the entire width of the mattress grille is the same, so that the mattress is supported resiliently on the side edges of the frame.
  • a mattress grate of the type mentioned at the outset according to the invention is characterized in that the leaf springs each have an essentially lying V-shaped profile, with an upper and a lower leg, which point in the direction of a connecting region located on the inside of the frame converge that the free length of each leg in the unloaded state of a spring is greater than the vertical distance between the locations of the legs with which they are attached to the end of the crossbar or to the frame, and that the crossbars are rigid and by the fastening the upper legs of the springs on the slats a deformation under load is distributed over the springs and local bending deformations are avoided.
  • each spring is connected to at least one slat, while the free end of the lower leg is attached to an elongate member of the frame.
  • the upper leg cannot perform an arc-shaped pivoting movement, since the slat to which the leg is attached is stiff and cannot be stretched in the longitudinal direction.
  • This means that the leaf springs mounted in the mattress base are subjected to a deformation under vertical load which extends over most of the area of the spring. The load is thus distributed over the upper leg, the connection area between the two legs and the lower leg. As a result, local bending deformations beyond the elastic range and fatigue from frequent bending along one and the same bending line are excluded.
  • the free length of the spring legs is relatively large. It is the free length of each spring leg in the unloaded state of a spring, for example, greater than the vertical distance between the locations of the spring legs at which they are attached to the end of a crossbar or to the frame.
  • the shape of the springs differs significantly from that of a semicircle.
  • the large length of the upper and lower legs requires that the connection area between them is directed inwards and thus lies within the frame.
  • a slatted frame with slats extending in the longitudinal direction of the frame is known.
  • the slats are slightly curved upwards by leaf springs and S-shaped spiral springs. Local bending deformations beyond the elastic range and signs of fatigue cannot be avoided with the S-shaped coil springs.
  • the ability of the mattress grate to adapt to the load of a person lying on it can be improved in that the upper leg of each spring has two tabs for connection with two narrow slats.
  • the leaf springs can each be separated. manufactured from each other upper and lower legs, which are connected by means of rivets or the like.
  • the connection area between the legs of the individual V-shaped springs consists of a section which has a substantially semicircular profile. In this case, the spring consists of one piece.
  • the upper leg of each spring can have a kink at the transition to the semicircular connecting area, which serves to hold an insert made of an elastic material inserted into the connecting area.
  • the mattress grate shown has a rectangular frame 1 and a number of slats 2 arranged at a mutual spacing. Between the end of each slat 2 and the frame 1, a resilient element in the form of an approximately V-shaped leaf spring 3 is arranged. The lower leg of the leaf spring 3 is attached to the frame 1 by means of screws 4 or the like. The upper leg of the leaf spring 3 ends in two tabs 5 and 6, each of which is penetrated by an elongated opening 7. The ends of the slats 2 are each in a clamp 8, which carries a rotatable bolt 9 of elongated shape on the underside. In the assembled state shown in Fig. 2, the bolt 9 is inserted through the opening 7 of a tab 5 or 6 and rotated by 90 ° for locking.
  • the upper leg 3a and the lower leg 3b of each spring 3 converge to a connecting region 3c which has an essentially semicircular profile.
  • a kink or a curve 3d is formed in the upper leg 3a.
  • a rubber insert 11 can be inserted into the connection area 3c in order to reduce the spring force of the leaf spring 3, or if the user wants a harder bed.
  • Fig. 3 the unloaded state of the spring 3 is shown in solid lines and the loaded state with dash-dotted lines. If the upper leg 3a were not connected to a slat, it would perform an arc-shaped swiveling movement around the apex of the connection area 3c under load. However, since the upper leg 3a is connected to at least one slat 2 in the arrangement according to the invention and this is not stretchable, the upper leg 3a cannot perform an arc-shaped swiveling movement, so that under load essentially the entire spring 3 except for those indicated by dash-dotted lines Condition is deformed.
  • the most significant advantage of this is that the load is distributed over most of the leaf spring and accordingly damage to the spring due to local exceeding of the elastic deformation range or due to fatigue, caused by repeated bending around the same bending line, is excluded.
  • the assembled spring provides a considerably greater spring resistance than a spring which can be deformed in a hinge-like manner when not installed. This effect is further promoted in that the free length of the legs of the leaf spring is chosen greater than the vertical distance between the locations of the legs with which they are attached to the end of a crossbar or to the frame in the unloaded state of the spring.
  • the leaf springs have a long service life.
  • The. Legs of the leaf springs can also be attached to the slats as well as to the frame by means of screws, nails, rivets or the like.
  • a relatively large number of narrow slats gives the mattress grille increased flexibility and adaptability. By attaching two narrow slats to two tabs of a single leaf spring, the mattress base is able to adapt to the load of a person lying on it with increased accuracy.
  • An essential feature of the invention is that between a longitudinal member of the frame and an overlying end of a crossbar a flat V-shaped leaf spring is attached, and that the stiffness of the crossbar causes the upper leg of the spring under load Almost the entire leaf spring can be moved downward only under elastic deformation, so that damaging local loads and damage caused thereby are avoided the, a large spring force can nevertheless be achieved with a rather cheap, simple leaf spring.
  • both legs of the leaf spring can be provided with cutouts.
  • the upper leg of each spring can be attached to the slats using simple screws or nails.
