- the crimping of the water box is most often carried out by means of tabs which project from the peripheral rising edge of the collecting plate, these tabs being folded over a projecting rim which the water box has.
- FR-A-2 050 306 a water box-collector plate connection by providing stapling members projecting into the peripheral edge of the water box and by engaging these stapling members in lights on the rising edge of the collector plate. Similar arrangements have also been described in FR-A-2 443 602.
- FR-A-2 524 977 describes in one embodiment the fact of forming stampings near the upper end of lugs which extend the rising edge of the collector plate so that these stampings form stops for the peripheral edge of the water box.
- This arrangement requires that the stampings be formed after the water box has been put in place and while it is tightened on the joint which must seal between it and the collector plate.
- the tools required are complicated because it is also necessary to provide a leg retaining part when the stamping tool is working and the space for placing a retaining tool is so small that it is practically impossible to produce such a tool.

- the method for crimping a header plate of a heat exchanger on a water box in which there is provided a peripheral rising edge to fit an extra thickness delimited by the water box and a flexible deformable seal between the water box and a groove formed by the collector plate is characterized in that protruding undulations are formed above a line of least resistance in the edge, these undulations leaving segments free between them, in that 'the rising edge is placed in a tool having crimping walls whose spacing corresponds to the spacing of the external face of the different plane sides of the rising edges of the collector plate, so that it is placed in the groove of the collector plate the deformable seal, in that the water box is placed so that a heel which it presents bears on said seal, and in that one exerts pressure on the water box causing the seal is first deformed then that the projecting undulations and the segments placed between them are then folded down towards an edge of the water box at the same time as the deformable seal continues to be maintained under pressure.
