Abstract

1. A method of marking sintered parts for vacuum switch contacts, in which the sintered material is initially fabricated from a high-melting point metal powder constituting the matrix by mixing, pressing to obtain a moulded body, and sintering, and subsequent impregnation of the matrix with an impregnation material having a lower melting point, characterized by the following method steps : (a) use of a powder for pressing comprising a powder mix of - the total amount of the powdery high-melting-point matrix material, - a portion of the impregnation material in an amount of from 30 to 70 wt.%, based on the total amount of the impregnation material and - an addition material which at the sintering temperature forms a eutectic with the impregnation material and reacts metallurgically with the matrix material to form a coherent surface layer which surrounds the matrix material, and which upon thermal treatment is precipitated in dispersed form from the impregnation material, in an amount of from 1 to 5 wt.%, based on the mass of the total contact ; (b) applying the residual amount of the impregnation material as a coating onto the previously pressed moulded part ; (c) sintering at a temperature which is below the fusion temperature of the impregnation material but at least at the temperature of the eutectic which is formed from the impregnation material and the addition material, and maintaining said temperature for at least 1 h ; (d) performing the impregnation at or above the melting temperature of the impregnation material for a period of at least 30 min and (e) thermally treating the moulded part at a temperature which is below the sintering temperature by 100 to 250 k, during a treatment period of > 1 h.
