Definitions

  • Watch cases of this kind have long been known as "three piece cases".
  • US patent disclosure no. 1,802,080 describes such a construction, in which the parts are assembled by means of four screws distributed around the periphery of the box, and passing through the bottom and the box body so as to engage in tapped blind holes of the glasses.
  • a similar solution is recommended for a box of reduced height, by the presentation DE-OS 30 39756.
  • the present invention aims to improve watch cases of this kind, and more particularly relates to a watch case comprising a main part of annular shape constituting a box body and two auxiliary parts constituting a bezel and a back.
  • the object of the present invention is to propose a construction which remedies these defects and which makes it possible to provide for the box body a part having large dimensions, therefore a rigid part, even in a box of reduced thickness.
  • the watch case according to the invention is characterized in that the case body has notches distributed around its periphery and in that one of the said auxiliary parts is shaped with pillars integral with this part, engaged in said notches, and against which the other auxiliary part is fixed.
  • the main room blade 1 which constitutes the box body is a part of annular shape whose external periphery defines the external contour of the box. This peripheral line is visible at 2 in FIG. 1.
  • fig. 1 it has the shape of an octagon with rounded vertices.
  • the shape of the outer periphery of the box body could also be circular or rectangular or of yet another shape.
  • the box body 1 is limited by an internal edge of circular shape 3 whose radius corresponds to that of a watch movement 4 (fig. 3 and 4) intended to be housed in the box. If necessary, a casing circle can also be provided between the box body 1 and the movement 4.
  • auxiliary part 5 which forms the bottom.
  • This auxiliary part is a plate provided at four locations around its periphery with prominent elements 6 which act as horns and are therefore intended to retain pair by pair the ends of bars connecting the bracelet. We will return later to the form of these prominent elements 6.
  • a bezel 7 which comprises an annu part - circular narrow lar 8 and four raised parts 9 acting as pillars and radially extending outwardly along lines located 45 0 compared to the axes 3 a.m. - 9 a.m. and 6 a.m. - 12 p.m.
  • the telescope 7 has in the internal edge of its annular part 8 a groove 10 in which is engaged a gasket 11 which ensures the tight fixing of a glass 12.
  • this glass will consisting of a thin and flat sapphire plate.
  • the box body 1 has four radial notches 15 limited by parallel flat faces, the width of these notches being equal to the width of the pillars 9, so that when the bezel is placed on the body of box 1, the lower parts of the pillars 9 can engage in the notches 15.
  • the box body 1 has in each of its two upper and lower front faces an annular recess in which is housed a seal 16.
  • These two seals are of circular shape although it is also possible to provide seals of another shape if the inner contour of the bezel has a shape other than the circular shape and if the dial 17 which is fixed to the " movement 4 has itself also a shape other than the circular shape.
  • the linings 16 have a thickness slightly greater than the depth of the groove in which they are engaged, so that by engaging the pillars 9 in the notches 15, and putting the bottom 5 in place opposite the face lower part of the box body, these two linings are pinched between the lower face of the bezel and the upper face of the bottom.
  • Tapered holes 18 made in the corners of the bottom and tapped blind holes 19 made in the face lower pillars 9 make it possible to seal the box tightly by means of the screws 25.
  • the bottom is fixed to the telescope under conditions such that the periphery of the surface 13 is pressed against the flat lower faces of the pillars 9, the linings 16 being pinched axially, and the box body being held in place between the two auxiliary parts of the box.
  • the outer periphery of the box body 1 that is to say the external lateral surface 2, extends beyond the external peripheral surface 20 of the telescope 7, likewise that of the external peripheral surface 21 of the bottom 5.
  • the box body 1 is pierced with a radial passage designated by 22 and in the external part of which a tube (not shown) protecting a radial control rod will be driven, wearing a traditionally shaped crown.
  • the diameter of the radial passage 22 is enlarged to such a point that the upper and lower generatrices of this passage are located respectively at each of the linings 16. (fig. 2).
  • the centering of the box body 1 relative to the two auxiliary parts is produced by the side of a groove 23 which is formed in the upper front face of the box body and the bottom of which forms the upper surface which is in contact with the bezel 7.
  • the side of this groove 23 surrounds the circular area 8 of the telescope 7 over part of its height and over its entire periphery.
  • the described watch case includes elements for connecting to a bracelet. These consist of the two pairs of projecting elements 6 attached to the bottom 5. As can be seen in FIG. 4, these projecting elements 6 extend upwards and downwards, so as to have a sufficient height for the engagement of the ends of a bar 24 between the two elements of each pair. The upper projecting part of each element 6 extends opposite the lateral face 2 of the box body 1.
  • the watch case of figs. 5 and 6 is a square box. As seen in fig. 6 it also consists of three parts assembled by screws 25 : a bottom 26, a box body 27 and a bezel 28. This last frame-shaped part supports a flat and thin glass 29. In its angles, it has external extensions 30 which extend diagonally and engage downward in notches 31 of the box body. These extensions constitute pillars in which are provided the tapped holes provided for the screws 25.
  • the box body 27 has a projecting internal thread 32 used for fixing the movement 33 by means of usual keys and its periphery, of square outline, determined the dimensions and shape of the box.
  • the bottom 26 is provided with low side walls 34 whose flat upper surface 35 is applied against the lower front face of the box body 27. In its angles, the bottom 26 has holes for the engagement of the heads screws 25, as in the first embodiment. As for the seals 36 and 37 , they are arranged as in FIG. 3.
  • the fixing of the bracelet to the box of fig. 5 and 6 can be produced by means of bars (not shown) engaged in elongated recesses which will be formed in the lower edge of the sides of the box body 27, at 12 o'clock and at 6 o'clock.
  • the main piece which constitutes the body of the box can be treated so as to present, for example, a black color, while the bezel is a gold piece or a golden piece, which makes it possible to give the box an appearance particularly attractive.
  • the background is made of a material having a third color, or having undergone a surface treatment which gives it a third color, the appearance of the box can also be made particularly attractive.
  • the construction described makes it possible to produce watch cases whose thickness reaches the minimum values still compatible with the required rigidity. It makes it possible to use very thin mineral glasses, for example sapphire glasses 0.6 to 0.8 mm thick and to mount these glasses on very thin glasses, the holding of these glasses being ensured by the pillars of which they are provided.
  • very thin mineral glasses for example sapphire glasses 0.6 to 0.8 mm thick and to mount these glasses on very thin glasses, the holding of these glasses being ensured by the pillars of which they are provided.
