Claims (9)

1. An edge gear unit for a window, door or the like for insertion into a stepped slot (22, 26) in a frame piece, in the bottom of which slot a recess (28) is provided to receive a gear assembly, comprising a top bar (16) approximately conformed to the outer slot step (22), a connecting rod (18) approximately conformed to the inner slot step (26) and the gear assembly, the gear assembly comprising a gear housing consisting of two side walls (10, 12) between which a driving member, e.g. a gear pinion (14) is located, the top bar being provided with tooth spaces (16a) in its edge areas (16c) in the region of the gear housing, the teeth (16b) formed between these tooth spaces engaging in recesses (10g) in the side walls, and the connecting rod being positioned on the inside of the top bar and being in driving engagement with the gear pinion, characterized in that the recesses in the side walls (10, 12) are formed as through-holes (10g, 12g) penetrating right through the side walls (10, 12) and that the teeth (16b) project outwards through the side walls (10, 12) and rest on the base surfaces (20) of the outer, broader slot step (22) of the stepped slot (22, 26).
2. An edge gear unit according to claim 1, characterized in that the connecting rod (18) is supported on its side which is near the pinion and remote from the top bar (16) by supporting bridges (10f, 12f) on the side walls.

An edge gear unit according to claim 1 or claim 2, characterized in that the side walls (310, 312), in the region of the top bar (316) and up to their end edges which lie outside the top bar (316), are constructed and arranged with substantially parallel faces and substantially perpendicular to the pinion axis.
4. An edge gear unit according to claim 1 or claim 2, characterized in that the side walls (110, 112) are provided on the outside of the top bar (116) with flanges (110e, 112e) which face each other and rest against the outside of the top bar (116).
5. An edge gear unit according to any of claims 1, 2 and 4, characterized in that the side walls (210, 212) are thickened (210h, 212h) in the areas thereof which lie above the base surfaces (220) of the outer, broader slot step (222), thereby filling at least partially the edge areas of the outer slot step (222).
6. An edge gear unit according to claim 5, characterized in that the thickening (210, 212) extends wedge-shaped to the outer boundary edge of the outer, broader slot step (222).
7. An edge gear unit according to any of claims 1 to 6, characterized in that the width of the gear housing (10, 12) from side wall outside to side wall outside corresponds approximately to the width of the inner, narrower slot step (26).

An edge gear unit for a window, door or the like for insertion into a stepped slot (422, 426) in a frame piece, in the bottom of which slot a recess (428) is provided to receive a gear assembly, comprising a top bar (416) conformed approximately to the outer slot step (422) and a connecting rod (418) conformed approximately to the inner slot step (426) and the gear assembly, the gear assembly comprising a gear housing consisting of two side walls (410,412) between which a driving member, e.g. a gear pinion, is located, and the top bar being provided with recesses (416e) in its edge areas (416c) and being connected conformably to the side walls in the region of the gear housing, characterized in that in the region of the gear housing (410, 412) the top bar (416) is also provided with recesses (416d) on its inner side next to the connecting rod and the side walls (410, 412) are provided with bends (410i, 412i) in the areas thereof which are near the top bar, which bends at least partially fill the recesses (416d, 416e) in the top bar (416) without projecting substantially beyond them and possibly lie against the outside of the top bar (416), the top bar (416) partially overlapping the base surfaces (420) of the outer, broader slot step (422) even in the region of the recesses (416d).
9. An edge gear unit according to any of claims 1 to 7, characterized in that the teeth (16b) are tapered towards their tips.
