Abstract

The invention relates to linear lighting systems (for lighting or decoration) with small dimensions. It consists firstly of a support (Figure 1) consisting of a "U" profile (1) each wing of which is provided with a compressible profile (2) supporting a copper strip (3), the two strips being electrically connected to the mains at the end of the support, secondly from an alignment of modules embedded in the support, each module (FIG. 2) being produced by coating (4) with a series of light elements (5) of small dimensions flush or partially discovered, series whose terminals are electrically connected to two copper plates (6) each flush with one side of the module. The system designed can be used in particular for lighting any place requiring a linear device with a small footprint (for example household display cabinets). To obtain a coating in a single casting or injection which leaves the light elements flush or partially uncovered, a mold is used, two opposing walls of which are filled with a compressible layer of elastomer or foam covered with a plastic film.

Description

The invention relates to lighting systems and linear light decoration of small section whose light sources are small incandescent lamps.
Systems are known in which such lamps are mounted in parallel on a power cord, the whole being inserted in a transparent sheath or a glass tube. These systems have two drawbacks. On the one hand, they can only operate at low voltage, hence the obligation to use a transformer. On the other hand, replacing a dead lamp is inconvenient since it is necessary to clear the circuit from the sheath or tube. A system is also known which does not suffer from the first of these drawbacks (French patent ANQUETIN No. 2,351,352) since in the latter, the lamps are mounted in series directly adjustable by the sector, series which are connected in parallel to two conductors , the whole being inserted in a transparent sheath. On the other hand, the replacement of a lamp out of use remains inconvenient in this system; Indeed, it is necessary to locate the lamp in question in its series, to incise the sheath at this level, to change the lamp, to reconstitute the series by welding or tightening of the terminal and to close the sheath by gluing. These operations require a minimum amount of knowledge, tools and know-how. The author of the present application has described in a French patent application (FR 79 I948I) a system corresponding to the preamble of claim I which eliminates the drawbacks of the existing systems. This lighting and light decoration system consists of an alignment of modules. Each consists of a series of lamps, which can be supplied directly from the mains, connected in parallel to two conductors arranged in the axis thereof, the whole being coated with a transparent or translucent resin so that the conductors are flush with the ends of the module in an arrangement which allows the embedding of two adjacent ends in a connection which provides the electrical connection. This system, as well as those mentioned above, suffers from a drawback, the confinement of the lamps which thus see their life shortened. It suffers, with those who 'use a sheath, a second drawback, a loss of luraine flow when used for lighting, luminance when used in lighting decoration. Finally this. system has a drawback deny specific; when you replace an out-of-use module, you also replace the supply conductors, which is a waste.
The present invention as characterized in the claims aims to eliminate these drawbacks. We have used the principle of modules here. Each consists of a series of lamps, the supply voltage of which is that of the sector. Each terminal in the series is connected to a contact element, plate or copper pin. The whole is coated with a transparent resin (translucent to obtain certain luιsinous effects) so that the contact elements are flush or emerge from the block which constitutes the coating and that the lamps are flush where they are partially uncovered. The coating block has the shape of a rectangular parallelepiped. The modules are inserted "by force" into a "U" support, straight or not, which contains two conductors, stripped at least at the contact elements of the modules, connected to the sector at the end of the support. Different cases .de figure are to be considered. If you use plates flush with each other on the module, the U-shaped support will have its conductors arranged on the internal face of each wing. In this case, if the coating resin is rigid after polymerization, the conductors will be arranged on an elastomer or foam profile (it is therefore the compressibility of these profiles which will ensure that the modules are held in place and the quality of the contact electric); if the coating resin is compressible after polymerization (elastomer), the conductors will be placed directly on the internal face of the wings of the support which will be adequately profiled to receive the conductor (in this case, it is the compressibility of the resin coating which keeps the modules in place and the quality of the electrical contact). If pins emerging under the coating block are used, the conductors will be arranged at the bottom of the support embedded in an elastomer profile; this will include two longitudinal slots along the entire length of the support, plumb with the conductors, in order to allow the passage of the contact pins (in this case, the pins which enter "forcefully" into the slots of the profile elastomer which contains the conductors and it is the pressure on these pins which keeps the module in place). This system has several advantages over existing systems. It works without transformer since each series of lamps can receive the current of the sector. The replacement of an off-module sçrvice requires no technical knowledge, no tools, no know-how; it's as simple as that of a standard incandescent lamp in a home fixture. As the lamps have been partially discovered, there is no longer any confinement and the loss of light flux or luminance is almost nonexistent. We only replace the "lamps" part. Finally, when the system is used for light decoration, for example by producing light panels by placing a certain number of supports side by side, an advantage exists over existing systems: the user can carry out the composition himself. '' he wishes by playing on the spacing between the modules or on the colors (case where the modules are made with colored lamps) and he can change this composition at any time.
An embodiment of the system described (FIGS. I, 2 and 3) consisted in coating ten small la-spes (i) with incandescent 24 volts of unit tensi ("luciol" from MAZDA), connected in series, the terminals of the series having been soldered to two small copper plates (2). The whole was coated in a colorless transparent epoxy resin (3) ("In Epox" sold by the company ADAM) so that the two copper plates are flush and the lamps are partially uncovered. The support (Figure 3) was made by molding two profiles (4) in silicone elas tomera ("RTV 589" from RHONE POULENC) on which was glued a copper strip (5) of 0.5 X 2 mm section, each connected to the sector at the end of the support, each profile having been glued to one of the wings of an aluminum profile (6) in a "U" shape. The realization of a module poses the problem of the mold. Indeed, to obtain that after demolding the light elements are flush or are partially uncovered, while preserving the possibility of carrying out the coating in a single casting or injection, it is necessary to arrange the mold in a particular way. The molding-coating system designed consists of placing on two internal faces of the mold in opposition an elastomer or foam lining covered with a plastic film allowing easy demolding, that is to say having in the mold two compressible opposing faces. The light elements can be positioned in the mold by lowering them "in force", the electrical connection between them having been made before.
The casting was carried out by gravity after positioning the series of lamps (6) and copper plates (7) serving as terminals. For positioning in the mold, the plates were glued to two small studs (8) of the same resin as that used for the coating.
