Definitions

  • the invention relates to an armor-piercing balancing projectile with the feature of the preamble of patent claim 1.
  • Such a so-called long floor is known from DE-C-14 28 679.
  • hard core elements and damping elements are arranged in a shell surrounding the entire floor as a holding element.
  • Oversize-sized holes are to be created in a target plate in order to allow the rear part of the projectile to pass unhindered.
  • the axis of a penetration channel which forms is inclined to one side as soon as the distance to the plate edge is shorter than in a straight direction to the plate edge.
  • EP-A-00 13 367 Another short projectile is known from EP-A-00 13 367, in which an armor-piercing projectile jacket is wound around a core as a holding element.
  • the object of the invention is to improve the projectile mentioned at the outset for use on multiple targets in such a way that, on the one hand, it is not deflected from its direction of penetration and, on the other hand, when the rear part breaks, the energy bound to the mass of the fragments can be fully utilized for further penetration work.
  • the invention ensures that the fragments are combined with one another even in the event of breaks transversely to the longitudinal axis of the rear part and thus continue to be involved in the penetration work.
  • a main penetrator 1 with a large length / diameter ratio and high density (for example by using a heavy metal sintered composite material) with a peripheral surface 2 and facing end faces 3 and 4 has a central bore 5 extending along a central longitudinal axis.
  • the respective ends 11, 12 of the stud bolts 17 and 18 forming the holding element 10 are also shrunk into the penetrator.
  • a transition 14 'between the areas 13 and 15 is rounded.
  • the areas 15 are surrounded by cavities 16.
  • a holding element 10 is formed by a plurality of wires 10 '.
  • the wires 10 ' are spaced apart from one another by a layer 13', the peripheral region 14 of which is provided for the frictional connection with the wall surface 6 of the central bore 5.
  • the wires 10 ' can be twisted.
  • a holding element 30 is formed as a rope made of twisted wires 31. Between the peripheral surfaces 14 'of the wires 31 and the wall surface 6 of the bore 5 there is frictional connection. The non-positive zones extend along screw bands which delimit regions 16 'from one another.
  • a bundle of wires 31 is introduced into the central bore 5, the ends of which extend over on both sides the end faces of the main penetrator 1, not shown, protrude.
  • the wire bundle fills the entire cross section of the hole. Both ends are now pulled apart, the wires 31 are stretched and twisted at the same time.
  • a bundle cross section which is reduced as a result of constriction of the wires 31 increases as a result of the twisting.
  • the main penetrator 1 is cooled and the holding element 30 is shrunk in, so that there is mutual frictional connection. As soon as the main penetrator 1 has reached its initial temperature again, in addition to the radially acting surface pressure, one of these superimposed axial tension components remains in the non-positive areas.
  • a main penetrator according to the invention has significant advantages over one with a sleeve as a holding element, for example made of steel: with regard to a thread or the like required for the circumference for the axial positive locking with a sabot, the sleeve must have a sufficient wall thickness, which disadvantageously means that medium density is significantly affected.
  • a holding element with a comparatively substantially smaller volume is realized in the arrangement according to the invention. Since this is also arranged inside the cross-section, the target material is always exposed to a sharp-edged edge of the dense composite material.
  • the holding element can have a stud at at least one of its two ends, which is also shrunk in and protrudes with a free end, which has a thread, over a respective end face 3 or 4 of the main penetrator 1. It can therefore be used to connect a pre-penetrator or to accommodate a rear-side support for a stabilizing tail unit via the thread 19 or 20.
  • the layer 13 '(Fig. 2) can consist of ductile and thus shock-absorbing material of sufficient strength.
  • copper alloys are suitable, for example, which also ensure sufficient friction with the penetrator material under the existing mutual adhesion.
