Definitions
- the invention relates to printing presses on a thin support unwound continuously from a spool.
- the rotary printing process is well known for obtaining, on a continuously moving support, the reproduction of any drawings and graphic signs engraved on a cylindrical shape, or else for making solid coatings.
- the shapes can be engraved intaglio (heliography) or embossed (typography, flexography) and printing or coating carried out using various products appropriate to the desired result: printing inks, carbons, self-adhesives, hot-melt adhesives, chemical coatings for self-reproducing papers or for so-called "chemical” papers, etc.
- the product is transferred to the support from a tank in which a rotating cylinder is bubbled which can be directly a hollow engraved cylinder (heliography) or a taker cylinder coating the relief shapes carried by a plate cylinder intermediate of a touch cylinder (typography, flexography).
- a rotating cylinder which can be directly a hollow engraved cylinder (heliography) or a taker cylinder coating the relief shapes carried by a plate cylinder intermediate of a touch cylinder (typography, flexography).
- the product remaining in the hollow of the engraving after wiping of the engraved cylinder using a doctor blade taking support along one of its generatrices (heliography), or coating the reliefs of the stereotypes (typography, flexography); is deposited on the support which, at the end of the process, is brought into intimate contact with the engraved cylinder or the plate-holding cylinder, by a pressure roller coated with rubber and subjected to a pressure of hydraulic or mechanical nature.
- the product For the product to have satisfactory physical and / or chemical characteristics, it is frequent that it is necessary to determine and impose a fairly precise temperature at the time of deposition on the support. This is particularly the case for carbons, hot-melt adhesives and emitting and receiving coatings for chemical papers.
- the cold viscosity of the product may also require heating during storage in the tank and during the entire transfer process (in particular the case of hot-melt adhesives).
- the invention provides a structure which ensures perfect equality between the temperatures in the tank, on the surface of each active member including the contact area of the pressure roller and on the surface of the support which is in the printing position. This last point is very important to ensure the uniformity of the deposit over its entire thickness.
- the press comprises an enclosure which contains the tray, the engraved shape and the complementary members and which is made up of two separable parts joined in a substantially sealed manner, namely a fixed part integral with the frame of the press and which receives the means for supplying, leveling and circulating the product as well as the means for adjusting the height of the tank and a movable part which carries bearings in which the engraved shape and the complementary members revolve, while a window is provided on the upper face of the enclosure allows the passage of the lower part of the pressure roller and that at least one supply of forced air at controlled temperature is provided at the lower part of the fixed part of one enclosure.
- all the active members are in the same air stream at controlled temperature and are thus all kept at the same temperature, including the pressure cylinder and the part of the support in the printing position which are placed in the window and which are therefore licked by the air flow escaping to the outside.
- the enclosure also has significant advantages for cold coating, for example for self-adhesive coatings, using a volatile solvent for the product, since the limited volume of the enclosure makes it possible to be quickly in a saturated atmosphere. , which ensures the stability of the product.
- the enclosure still provides protection against injury from unintentional contact during operation. It considerably reduces odor emissions (cold or hot) from 1 1 evaporation of certain product components.
- a rotary press is intended to reproduce on a thin support 10 continuously scrolling, the drawings, signs or others, engraved on a cylindrical shape 12 using a product contained in a tray 13.
- the form 12 is brought into intimate contact with the support 10 by a pressure roller 11 subjected to hydraulic or mechanical pressure, after having been suitably coated with the product.
- this is a rotogravure press
- the shape 12 is etched into a hollow, bubbled directly into the tank 13 and the excess product is retained by a complementary member which is a wiping rake 14 ; possibly, in the case of a product of high viscosity, there may exist another complementary member constituted by a strip or doctor blade (not shown) in accordance with French patent application 81 24 026 co-pending, in the name of the same depositor.
- the press could be typographic or flexographic, the form 12 then being a plate cylinder engraved in relief, not bubbling into the tank 13 and being coated with the product by means of at least two complementary members (not shown), namely a grab cylinder bubbling into tank 13 and a touch cylinder transferring the product from the grab cylinder to the reliefs of shape 12.
- An enclosure surrounds the form 12, the complementary members (doctor blade 14 and possible distribution doctor blade or take-up cylinder and touching cylinder) and the tank 13. In its upper face is provided a window 19 constituting a passage for the lower part of the pressure roller 11

Abstract
