Definitions
- washed textiles especially those made from cellulose fibers, have an unpleasant hardening after drying. This is especially true when washing is done in the washing machine.
- Such undesirable hardening of the handle can be eliminated by post-treating the textiles in a rinsing bath with cationic substances which contain at least two long-chain aliphatic residues in the molecule.
- the water-dispersible dialkyldimethylammonium chlorides or imidazoline derivatives of the formulas I ⁇ III are used in particular for this purpose
- R 1 is alkyl or alkenyl with 8-22, preferably 16-18, carbon atoms
- R 3 is methyl or hydrogen
- X is a number from 1-5
- A is an anion such as CI s , Br ", CH 3 OSO 3 ⁇ or CH 3 OPO 3 ⁇ .
- Aqueous dispersions of the raw materials mentioned have the disadvantage that they look milky cloudy.
- formulations are required that look clearly transparent as aqueous, concentrated formulations.
- the mixtures should be readily dispersible in cold water. Further criteria are: no thickening of the formulation when stored, stability after long standing, no formation of sediment.
- nonionic dispersants are customary nonionic dispersants or emulsifiers based on oxalkylates, which contribute to the fact that the concentrate is readily dispersible in cold water.
- Suitable nonionic dispersants are, for example, reaction products of in each case about 2-15 mol of ethylene oxide with an alkylphenol, for example xylenol, but also with an alkylphenol with a long alkyl radical of 8-10 carbon atoms or with a fatty alcohol with 8 to 15 carbon atoms, in particular reaction products of about 5-10 moles of EO with 1 mole of alkylphenol or 1 mole of a fatty alcohol containing 8 to 15 carbon atoms or a mixture of such fatty alcohols.
- the cationic softening compounds of the formulas 1-111 are expediently used in the form of their concentrated solutions in lower alcohols, preferably isopropanol or in a mixture of these alcohols with water.
- the fabric softeners according to the invention therefore contain a certain amount of such lower alcohols.
- the concentrated fabric softener according to the invention may also contain other substances and auxiliaries which are either already mixed in the concentrate of the fabric softener or added separately to the ready-to-use fabric softener.
- substances or auxiliaries that have already been used in fabric softeners, such as. B. cationic or nonionic surface-active substances.
- the concentrated fabric softening agents according to the invention give any textile materials, especially those made from natural or regenerated cellulose, wool, cellulose acetate, triacetate, polyamide, polyacrylonitrile, polyester, polypropylene, a pleasant and soft feel.
- the use as a laundry treatment agent for terry cloth and underwear is particularly advantageous.
- These fabric softener mixtures are produced by simply mixing or dispersing the individual components in water.
- These fabric softeners according to the invention can either contain a compound of the formula 1 to III or IV to VII or else they contain a mixture of 2 or more compounds of the formula I to III or IV to VII within the stated limits. If a mixture of two or more compounds of the formula III or IV to VII is present, the mixing ratio with one another is completely uncritical and can have any value.
- the fabric softener concentrates described above which have good softening properties, are completely clear. They are characterized by good stability. The cold water dispersibility is excellent. No gel formation was observed. The formulations also show a low viscosity in a highly concentrated form. After-gelling after a longer storage period does not occur.
- anionic surfactant not only acts as an emulsifier but also as a softening component.
- anionic surfactants alone do not have a softening effect because they do not absorb onto the fabric.
Abstract
Description
CIs, Br", CH3OSO3 ⊖ oder CH3OPO3 ⊖.Here R 1 is alkyl or alkenyl with 8-22, preferably 16-18, carbon atoms, R 2 alkyl with 1-4 carbon atoms, preferably methyl, R 3 is methyl or hydrogen, X is a number from 1-5 and A is an anion such as CI s , Br ", CH 3 OSO 3 ⊖ or CH 3 OPO 3 ⊖ .
Aqueous dispersions of the raw materials mentioned have the disadvantage that they look milky cloudy. However, formulations are required that look clearly transparent as aqueous, concentrated formulations. In addition, the mixtures should be readily dispersible in cold water. Further criteria are: no thickening of the formulation when stored, stability after long standing, no formation of sediment.
It has now been found that these requirements can be met if a certain amount of anionic surfactants is added to the compounds of the formulas I ― III above.
- a) 26-40, preferably 26-30,% by weight of one or more compounds of the formulas
- b) 0.01-8, preferably 1-3,% by weight of one or more anionic surfactants,
- c) 0.01-8, preferably 0.5-3, wt .-% of a nonionic dispersant
- d) 3-30, preferably 5-15,% by weight of a C 1 -C 3 alcohol and
- e) water and optionally perfume and dyes and other auxiliaries in amounts corresponding to the balance to 100 wt .-%.
Another component of the fabric softener concentrates according to the invention are customary nonionic dispersants or emulsifiers based on oxalkylates, which contribute to the fact that the concentrate is readily dispersible in cold water. Suitable nonionic dispersants are, for example, reaction products of in each case about 2-15 mol of ethylene oxide with an alkylphenol, for example xylenol, but also with an alkylphenol with a long alkyl radical of 8-10 carbon atoms or with a fatty alcohol with 8 to 15 carbon atoms, in particular reaction products of about 5-10 moles of EO with 1 mole of alkylphenol or 1 mole of a fatty alcohol containing 8 to 15 carbon atoms or a mixture of such fatty alcohols.
In the preparation of the concentrated fabric softener according to the invention, the cationic softening compounds of the formulas 1-111 are expediently used in the form of their concentrated solutions in lower alcohols, preferably isopropanol or in a mixture of these alcohols with water. The fabric softeners according to the invention therefore contain a certain amount of such lower alcohols.
In addition, the concentrated fabric softener according to the invention may also contain other substances and auxiliaries which are either already mixed in the concentrate of the fabric softener or added separately to the ready-to-use fabric softener. These are substances or auxiliaries that have already been used in fabric softeners, such as. B. cationic or nonionic surface-active substances. Electrolytes, acidifier, org. Complexing agents, optical brighteners or solubilizers as well as colors and fragrances. They serve to additionally influence the handle of the goods or other properties of the textiles to be treated or to adjust the viscosity, to regulate the pH or to increase the stability at low temperatures.
The concentrated fabric softening agents according to the invention give any textile materials, especially those made from natural or regenerated cellulose, wool, cellulose acetate, triacetate, polyamide, polyacrylonitrile, polyester, polypropylene, a pleasant and soft feel. The use as a laundry treatment agent for terry cloth and underwear is particularly advantageous. These fabric softener mixtures are produced by simply mixing or dispersing the individual components in water. These fabric softeners according to the invention can either contain a compound of the formula 1 to III or IV to VII or else they contain a mixture of 2 or more compounds of the formula I to III or IV to VII within the stated limits. If a mixture of two or more compounds of the formula III or IV to VII is present, the mixing ratio with one another is completely uncritical and can have any value.
These fabric softener concentrates are used as usual by adding them to the last rinse water after the textile wash. The textile material treated in this way is then dried.
The fabric softener concentrates described above, which have good softening properties, are completely clear. They are characterized by good stability. The cold water dispersibility is excellent. No gel formation was observed. The formulations also show a low viscosity in a highly concentrated form. After-gelling after a longer storage period does not occur.
An improvement in the grip effect was also found, so that, surprisingly, the anionic surfactant not only acts as an emulsifier but also as a softening component. These anionic surfactants alone do not have a softening effect because they do not absorb onto the fabric.
The following examples describe some fabric softening agents according to the invention. Percentages are percentages by weight in all cases. In all cases, these fabric softeners are produced by simply stirring in the cold of aqueous solutions of the individual components.
