Description

It is known that washed textiles, especially those made from cellulose fibers, have an unpleasant hardening after drying. This is particularly the case when the laundry is done in the washing machine. This undesirable hardening of the handle can be eliminated by treating the textiles after washing in a rinsing bath with cationic substances which contain at least two long-chain aliphatic residues in the molecule. In practice, the water-dispersible dialkyldimethylammonium salts have been introduced for this purpose. However, these products have the disadvantage that the treated tissue becomes too hydrophobic in the event of an overdose, and the rewettability is thereby delayed. In addition, it is very difficult to combine such long-chain dialkyldimethylammonium salts with short-chain dialkylquats in order, for. B. Manufacturing fabric softener formulations with bactericidal effects. Furthermore, these dispersions have the disadvantage that they have a milky, cloudy appearance, whereas nowadays, fabric softener formulations are also required which have a clear appearance as an aqueous solution.

Mixtures of fabric softeners in the form of quaternary ammonium compounds and non-oxyethylated fatty acid alkanolamides are already known from CH-A 461 426. The fatty acid alkanolamides, however, are only said to have the effect of increasing the softening effect of the quaternary ammonium compounds. An improvement in the solubility behavior of these quaternary ammonium compounds by adding fatty acid alkanolamides which are additionally oxyalkylated cannot be inferred from this.

The invention thus relates to fabric softeners in the form of an aqueous solution or dispersion which comprise 3 to 15, preferably 3 to 8% by weight of one or more compounds of the formulas I to IV '

This combination of the compounds to V gives any textile materials, especially those made from natural or regenerated cellulose, wool, cellulose acetate, triacetate, polyamide, polyacrylonitrile, polyester, polypropylene, a pleasant and soft feel. Use as a laundry treatment agent for terry towels and underwear is particularly advantageous. These fabric softeners are produced by simply mixing or dispersing the individual components in water. If a mixture of two or more compounds of the formulas II to IV is present, their mixing ratio with one another is completely uncritical and can take on any value.

where R 1 , R 2 and A have the meaning given above and R 7 is an aliphatic radical having 6 to 12, preferably 10 carbon atoms.

In addition, the fabric softener according to the invention can also contain other substances and auxiliaries which are either already mixed in the concentrate of the fabric softener or added separately to the ready-to-use, diluted fabric softener. These are substances or auxiliaries that have already been used in fabric softeners, such as. B. cationic or nonionic surface-active substances, electrolytes, acidifying agents, organic complexing agents, optical brighteners or solubilizers, and colorants and fragrances. They serve to additionally influence the handle of the goods or other properties of the textiles to be treated or to adjust the viscosity, to regulate the pH or to increase the stability at low temperatures.

These fabric softeners are used as usual by adding them to the last rinse water after the textile wash. The textile material treated in this way is then dried.

The fabric softening agents described above are completely clear and have the advantage that the rewettability of cotton is significantly improved compared to commercially available agents. It is also surprising that such compounds of the formulas to IV in combination with einf Compounds of formula V show a good softening effect which contain more than 50% alkyl groups with only 12 carbon atoms, since it is known that such compounds have only a medium softening effect in comparison with di-tallow fatty alkyl dimethyl ammonium chloride. The fatty acid alkylolamidoxethylete alone show no softening effect.

The following examples describe some fabric softening agents according to the invention. Percentages are percentages by weight in all cases. These fabric softeners are produced in all cases by simply stirring in the cold of aqueous solutions of the individual components.
