Description

Washed textiles, especially those made from natural fibers, show an unpleasant hardening after drying. In addition, the electrostatic charge is an unpleasant property when wearing synthetic fibers.
Such negative properties of machine wash can be largely eliminated by post-treatment of the laundry in the last rinse cycle with so-called fabric softeners. The lifespan of a piece of laundry is also demonstrably extended. The use of fabric softening agents also reduces the residual moisture after spinning and thus shortens the drying time. The following requirements are placed on a good concentrate of fabric softener:
Good cold water dispersibility, no thickening of the formulation in storage, no separation of the formulation and no formation of sediment.

In the fabric softening agents described there, the above-mentioned requirements are met by combining the quaternary ammonium compounds serving as fabric softening agents with a fatty acid alkylolamidoethoxylate.

The fabric softener concentrates described there are produced by adding fatty acid alkylolamidoxalkylates and nonionic dispersants or emulsifiers based on oxalkylates, which help to ensure that the concentrate is readily dispersible in cold water.

The requirements placed on a concentrate of fabric softening agents are met by combining the quaternary ammonium compounds with a certain amount of a fatty amine polyglycol ether.

It has now been found that by combining cationic plasticizers with esters of saturated and / or unsaturated C₁-C₂₁ carboxylic acids with di- to tetravalent alcohols, highly concentrated, low-viscosity fabric softeners can be produced which meet all the requirements placed on a good concentrate.

  • a) 5 - 40 Gew.-%, vorzugsweise 10 - 25 Gew.-%, eines kationischen Weichmachers,
The invention thus relates to fabric softener concentrates consisting of
  • a) 5-40% by weight, preferably 10-25% by weight, of a cationic plasticizer,
  • b) 0.1-25% by weight, preferably 0.5-15% by weight, of an ester of a C₁-C₂₂ carboxylic acid with a di-, tri- or tetravalent alcohol having 2 to 10 carbon atoms, and optionally
  • c) 0-10% by weight, preferably 0.5-5% by weight, of a nonionic dispersant,
  • d) 0-20% by weight, preferably 0.5-10% by weight, of a polyglycol,
  • e) water and, if appropriate, other customary auxiliaries in accordance with the balance at 100% by weight.

It has been shown that the esters corresponding to component b) act as dispersants and, moreover, in contrast to conventional emulsifiers, are effective plasticizers and are therefore suitable for supporting the quaternary ammonium compounds in their plasticizing effect. Suitable nonionic dispersants are reaction products of in each case about 2 to 12 moles of ethylene oxide with an alkylphenol, for example xylenol, but also with an alkylphenol with a long alkyl radical of 8 to 10 carbon atoms or with a fatty alcohol or fatty amine with 6 to 22 carbon atoms, preferably 8 to 18 carbon atoms. These include in particular Reaction products of about 5 to 8 moles of ethylene oxide with 1 mole of alkylphenol or 1 mole of fatty alcohol or fatty amine or a mixture of such fatty alcohols and / or fatty amines. The amount of these nonionic dispersants is 0 to 10% by weight, preferably 0.5 to 5% by weight, based on the total weight of the concentrate.

The fabric softener concentrates according to the invention optionally contain 0 to 20, preferably 0.5 to 10 wt .-% of a polyglycol, preferably polyethylene glycols with an M w of 400 to 1000 (weight average) and / or polypropylene glycol and the C₁-C₄ alkyl ethers of these compounds. These compounds have a solubilizing effect and are therefore particularly suitable as an additive for the production of transparent fabric softener concentrates.

In addition, the concentrated fabric softener according to the invention can also contain other customary substances and auxiliaries which are either already mixed in the concentrate or added separately to the ready-to-use, diluted fabric softener. These are cationic or non-ionic surface-active substances, electrolytes, acidifying agents, organic complexing agents, optical brighteners, solubilizers and colorants and fragrances. They serve to additionally influence the handle of the goods or other properties of the textiles to be treated or to adjust the viscosity, to regulate the pH value or to increase the stability at low temperatures.

The laundry fabric softener concentrates according to the invention have a solids content of at least 25% by weight, preferably 25 to 75% by weight, particularly preferably 25 to 60% by weight.

The laundry softener concentrates according to the invention impart any textile materials, especially those made from natural or regenerated cellulose, Wool, regenerated cellulose, cellulose triacetate, polyamide, polyacrylonitrile, polyester or polypropylene have a pleasant and soft feel. The use as a laundry treatment agent for terry cloth and underwear is particularly advantageous.

These concentrates are prepared by simply mixing or dispersing the individual components a) to d) and, if appropriate, e) in water. The concentrates either contain one compound of components a) to e) or they contain a mixture of two or more compounds of components a) to e) within the specified limits. If there is a mixture of two or more compounds of components a, b, c, d or e, their mixing ratio with one another is completely uncritical and can take on any value. The amounts of the individual components a) to d) are chosen within the limits specified so that the finished concentrate, including any additional amounts of water and auxiliaries, gives 100% by weight. The amount of the fabric softener / detergent concentrate according to the invention is about 10-20 g per 4 kg of laundry. These concentrates are used as usual by adding them to the final rinse water after washing the fabrics. The fabric softener concentrates described above have good softening properties. They are characterized by good perfume compatibility and stability. The cold water dispersibility is excellent. No gel formation was observed. The formulations also show a low viscosity in a highly concentrated form. Thickening or gelling after a long storage period (30 days) does not occur. Another object of the invention is thus the use of the fabric softener concentrates according to the invention for the production of emulsions.
