Description

The invention relates to a sponge application head for placing on a bottle for a surface treatment agent such as shoe color, in particular shoe white, the open-cell sponge being partially enclosed and compressed by an insert to be inserted into the bottle neck and protruding from the insert in the manner of a mushroom or calotte. The term “bottle” is understood to mean any bottle-like container made of plastic, glass or metal.

There are two application systems with sponge applicators for shoe white and other colors, namely containers with an applicator, e.g. B. a sponge, and central opening on the one hand and applicators with valve on the other. The former system is only suitable for highly viscous products and cannot be used with thin colors, especially self-gloss emulsions. The other system requires a relatively complex mechanism, which also only allows discontinuous pumping movements.

From CH-A-393 662 a container for liquid shoe care products with a plug made of porous material, which serves as an application device, is known. Here, the arrangement is such that a neck ring is connected to the central opening of the bottom of the holder and the stopper part serving as an abutment for securing the stopper in the cup body is provided behind the free end of the neck ring.

Furthermore, from DE-B-1 255 543 a spreading device in connection with a liquid container is known, wherein a closure body in the form of a disk with an adjoining lower part of smaller diameter is suitably inserted into an opening of the container and a spreading head with pin in a cavity of the closure body is inserted. It is envisaged that the closure body is made of elastic, stretchable material, that the application head rests with its rigid pin on the bottom of the cavity and that the closure body is provided with a number of bores, which on one side normally on the side wall of the opening end, but come into contact with the interior of the container when pressure is applied to the spreading head and the cap body expands accordingly, and allow the liquid to escape.

In contrast, the present invention is based on the object of improving the known application systems in such a way that self-gloss emulsions for shoe care and the like can also be applied, which are relatively inexpensive to manufacture and allow continuous product delivery. In particular, a valve effect should be achieved in such a way that overdosing of the application agent is practically excluded.

The solution to the generic sponge applicator head is that the insert below the non-compressed and radially projecting sponge edge has an approximately axially extending annular groove with holes through the insert towards the inside of the bottle.

A round cylindrical sponge is preferably provided and this is assigned a cylindrical interior of the insert, which is intended to receive the sponge partially compressed when in use.

The sponge applicator head according to the invention can of course be screwed airtight and product-tight for storage, so that an undesired product leakage is excluded even when the bottle is stored upside down. If the bottle is unscrewed and kept in the application position, on the other hand, a continuous product leak can be achieved through the holes provided in the application head. This is because the product is brought to the uncompressed edge area of the sponge body via the annular groove - ie without filtration. If the bottom of the annular groove has three bores leading to the inside of the bottle, preferably at approximately the same distance from one another, there is a radial product flow to the three sponge sides corresponding to the bores and thus an optimal product distribution in the sponge. In this way, a closed product film can be applied quickly.

An unexpected advantage of the sponge applicator head according to the invention is also that the mushroom-shaped sponge top or the sponge cap closes the annular groove provided on the circumference when pressed onto the object surface in the application position, so that an unwanted, direct wetting of the surface to be processed, e.g. B. leather is avoided. For the same reason, an unwanted overdose is practically impossible.

Accordingly, in the embodiment of the sponge application head according to the invention, the advantages of known sponge applicators are combined with valve applicators without taking on the disadvantages mentioned at the outset, in particular a valve function is achieved without an additional valve element.

  • Fig. 2 den Schnitt 11-11 von Fig. 1.
Further details are explained on the basis of the schematic representation of an exemplary embodiment. It shows
  • Fig. 1 shows a sponge applicator partly in view and partly in section and
  • 2 shows the section 11-11 of Fig. 1st

The sponge applicator head according to the invention, designated as a whole by 1, contains a sponge 2, which is partially enclosed by an insert 3 to be inserted into a (not shown) bottle neck and compressed within the insert in the lower third in a ratio of approximately 4: 1. A compression on the inside of the bottle is preferably used for compression The bottom 4 of the insert to be turned is provided with a star-shaped clamping ring 5 on the inner periphery. By dimensioning the interior 9 of the insert 3 and the clamping ring 5, the aim is to ensure that the sponge 2 is about a quarter or third above the upper edge 6 of the insert 3 in Projecting shape of a mushroom or a spherical cap 7. It is important that the sponge 2 projects outwards over the upper edge 6 of the insert 3.

Below the non-compressed, radially projecting sponge edge 8, an annular groove 10 is to be provided which extends approximately axially with respect to the bottle opening and surrounds the interior 9 of the insert 3 at a distance. This annular groove 10 should have through holes or holes 11 leading through the insert 3 to the inside of the bottle. The diameter of the holes 11 is adapted to the viscosity of the product to be applied. In the case of a low-viscosity self-gloss emulsion with a viscosity of 100 cP and pigment size in the micrometer range, the bore diameter can be approximately 0.6 mm.

Figure imgb0001
As can be seen, the product in the sponge application head according to the invention is essentially not filtered through the sponge 2, but is fed directly to the spherical cap head 7 via the bores 11. The product runs through the axial bores into the annular groove 10 surrounding the sponge and the bottle that has fallen from it in use - preferably to the underside of the area of the sponge edge that lies on the surface to be processed and thereby occupies the lowest position. Since the lower area of the annular groove 10 is covered by the sponge edge 8 because of the pressure on the surface to be treated, direct wetting of the surface to be processed with the bottle contents cannot occur.
