Abstract

The printed product to be opened is moved with an open side thereof towards a stationary opening element. The bottom part of the printed product contains at an open side, located opposite to a fold of the printed product, a marginal zone or portion by means of which the sheets of this bottom part protrude past the sheets of the other part of the product. The opening element has an inclined deflector aligned with the protruding marginal zone extending parallel to the direction of product travel. The printed product approaching the opening element is raised by means of a ramp prior to the leading edge of the producing marginal zone or portion abutting against a deflecting face of the deflector. By means of the deflector the sheets having the protruding marginal zone are downwardly deflected and thus are separated from the remaining sheets. An opening is thus formed between the two parts of the product, and a support element arranged after the opening element enters this opening. A retaining or hold-open member follows the support element. The upper part of the product comes to rest on this retaining member, and the printed product thus is maintained in an opened state.

An apparatus for opening products (1) formed of at least two sheets (4, 4'), interconnected along one side (3), preferably of products (1) formed of at least one asymmetrically folded sheet, particularly of printed products, one part (4') of the sheets thereof being formed at an open side (6) thereof with a marginal zone (7) protruding past the other sheets (4), with an opening device (9) to act upon the protruding marginal zone (7) which opening device (9) raises the sheets (4') provided with a protruding marginal zone (7) from the rest of the sheets (4) by forming an opening (16) between the sheets (4, 4'), characterized in that with respect to the direction (A) of travel of the products (1) which rest with the sheets (4'), provided with a protruding marginal zone (7) upon a support (2), forwardly of the opening device (9) is arranged a run-on suface (15) for the products (1) ascending from the support (2) towards the opening device (9) and the opening device deflecting the sheets (4') provided with a protruding marginal zone (7) towards the support.
5. The apparatus according to claim 4, characterized in that the opening device (9) is arranged in spaced relationship above the support (2).
6. The apparatus according to claim 4 or 5, characterized by advancing means to move the printed products (1) in a direction (A) which extends approximately parallel to the lengthwise extent of their protruding marginal zone (7) towards the opening device (9) and therepast.

The apparatus according to one of the claims 4 to 6, characterized by a support element (10) arranged following the opening device (9) and being insertable into the opening (16) formed by the opening device (9) between the sheets (4, 4'), the sheets (4) devoid of the protruding marginal zone resting upon said support element.

The apparatus according to one of the claims 4 to 7, characterized in that the opening device (9) includes a deflector element (12) for deflecting the sheets (4') provided with a protruding marginal zone (7) towards the support (2), the deflector element (12) being directed towards the products (1) travelling towards said deflector element.
9. The apparatus according to claim 7 or 8, characterized in that the opening element (9) and the support element (10) are formed of one piece.
10. The apparatus according to one of the claims 7 to 9, characterized in that a retaining element (11) for holding open the products (1) is arranged after the support element, said retaining element (11) being insertable between the sheets (4,4').

An apparatus for processing printed products (1) composed of several along one side (3) interconnected sheets (4, 4'), preferably of at least one asymmetrically folded sheet, with a cell wheel driven to revolve about an axis, said cell wheel containing radially extending compartments for receiving the printed products (1) and within which the printed products (1) are . movable in the direction of the axis of rotation of the cell wheel, characterized by that a respective apparatus according to claims 4 to 10 for opening the printed products (1) is arranged at least in the compartments of the input section of the cell wheel.
