Abstract
544,365. Signature gatherers. BEWEG AKT.- GES. July 23, 1940, No. 12066. Convention date, Aug.,2, 1939. [Class 100 (i)] Opening folded sheets.-In a signature-gathering machine, printed sheets or signatures which are unsymmetrically folded in such a manner that the edge of one half 19 extends beyond the edge of the other half 20 are opened out by a separating member 12 having a forward incline 15 which is arranged on the inclined feed table 5 parallel to the direction of feed 1, the members 12, 15 being adjustably mounted in an adjustable slide 6 so as to permit the incline 15 to engage under the extended edge of the longer half 19 and to be free of the edge of the half 20. The incline 15 is received in a recess 16 in the table 5 to ensure that it engages under the edge of the upper half 19, and the opening-out proceeds progressively as the edge rides up the separating member 12 as indicated in Fig. 4, and is arranged to complete the opening-out of the sheet. The device may be arranged to open-out a fold when the under half 20 is wider than the upper one 19. Specification 512,870 is referred to.
