Definitions
- the invention relates to a data display device by means of magnetically controlled bistable rotors.
- Such devices are already known to date (French patent 79.17804). They comprise at least two rotors, each formed of a body which has, in two diametrically opposite zones, ranges of different colors and which is free to rotate in a support with which it is associated by a shaft.
- a permanent magnet is attached to this body in rotation, the position of which is such that the line passing through its poles is substantially radial to the axis of the shaft.
- this magnet cooperates with a pole of an electromagnet connected to a source of direct current by an inverter switch.
- bistable element The operation of such a bistable element is simple in principle.
- the electromagnet generally acts on a simple rotor which, to carry this elementary indication must therefore offer opposite surfaces at least as large as that of said indication and, therefore, that the rotor is cylindrical, spherical or plane, it must have, even during its actuation, a place important which can only be reserved for it in very thick panels.
- the electromagnet has its two poles which have the same spacing as the axes of the two rotors behind which they are placed so that each of them controls one of the rotors by repulsion of the identical pole and attraction of the opposite pole of the permanent magnet.
- the pole of the permanent magnet identical to that of the electromagnet therefore remains free and its force of repulsion and attraction is therefore not exploited.
- this electromagnet thus mounted is necessarily limited to the control of a rotor per pole and therefore of two rotors, which still often offers a surface which is too small to carry an elementary indication readable from very far away.
- a result which the invention aims to obtain is a control of any number of rotors from a single electromagnet whose power practically does not need to be greater than that necessary to control a single rotor.
- the invention relates to a data display device of the type mentioned above, in particular characterized in that this point itself is made up of several colored areas which are juxtaposed and carried by separate rotors grouped to be controlled. in synchronism and in that, so that all the rotors of the same group are actuated at the same time, this device comprises a single electromagnet, the poles of which are arranged in the plane of the axes of the rotors, and this, in part and other of this whole group of rotors so as to exert their action directly only on the permanent magnets of the rotors located at the ends of the group, and this, exclusively on their pole oriented towards the outside of the group.
- the bar 11 can therefore be temporarily supplied so that the end 17 or 18 of each of its branches 19, 20 can optionally provide a North or South pole.
- poles of the electromagnet are located in the perpendicular plane cular to the axes of the rotors, in which the poles of the permanent magnets can rotate.
- the permanent magnet has contours or cutouts 21, 22 which delimit, in its polar zones, very exactly on either side of the line passing through the poles, polar zone fractions whose distances from the axis of rotation are different from each other and in diametrically opposite manner.
- This type of permanent magnet is in particular intended not to form a wedging cam as in US patent 3,638,550 but to prevent the rotor 1 from stabilizing in a position where the line passing through the poles 7, 8 of the permanent magnet 6 would merge with the result of the forces exerted by the corresponding pole of the electromagnet 10.
- a mask 23 can be placed in front of the display unit, in order to protect the bistable rotors. It can then have, facing each body 2, cutouts 24 of the shape of the sign 26 to appear and for example circular, which then makes it possible to affix on the bodies of colored pastilles 3 wider and of contour independent of that of the indication to appear.
- the most widespread application of such display devices is the reconstitution of characters, such as letters, numbers, drawings or various signs, for example from seven horizontal rows 25 of five points 26 each having an apparent section for example circular or rectangular.
- points 26 which have to be read at a great distance, those which have a very large diameter or width, are each themselves made up of several distinct colored areas for mant of elements of indications 261, 262, 263, 264 carried by several rotors 101, 102, 103, 104 juxtaposed and controlled in synchronism.
- the device for the synchronous control of several juxtaposed rotors, the device comprises a single electromagnet 10, the poles 17, 18 of which are arranged in the plane of the axes of the rotors, and this, in part and on the other side of the whole group of rotors to be synchronized 101, 102, 103, 104 so as to only exert their forces, whether repulsive or attractive, on the permanent magnets of the rotors placed at the ends of the group, and this, on their pole oriented towards the outside of the group of rotors.
- the permanent magnets of the end rotors are preferably arranged so as to rotate in one direction normal.
- the magnets of the intermediate rotors such as 102 and 103 can on the other hand be of cylindrical shape, without cutting, since they are driven in rotation by the rotating fields of the extreme magnets 101 and 104.
- the mask in the case where the same point is, as explained above, composed of several elementary indications distributed over several rotors, instead of several cutouts 24, of contour equivalent to each elementary indication, for each point 26, the mask then presents preferably, extending above the body group, a single cutout.
Abstract
