Description

The invention relates to a process for the production of foils from printed, multicolored, impregnated decorative papers with a three-dimensional pattern, such as a pore-containing wood grain, the printing being carried out by successively applying a plurality of primary colors.

It is known to use films made of impregnated decorative paper for the coating of chipboard, wooden parts or the like. The foils take the place of conventional veneers and are therefore also called plastic veneers. In the case of foils which are printed with a wood pattern, the aim is to give the finished chipboard a lifelike appearance and also a grip that is as similar as possible to the appearance and grip of wood. A three-dimensional surface is also sought, and the pores present in natural wood are simulated.

In a known process for the production of such films (DT-PS 1 942 78 0 ), a hardening retarder or a hardening accelerator is added to a printing ink, which is able to accelerate or polymerize the finally applied resinous coating during the hardening process, which is influenced by heating. to delay. In the areas in which this hardening delay or acceleration takes place, depressions are formed in the outer surface of the coating, which may be similar to pores. However, the bottom surface of these pores is still formed by the material of the coating, since the thickness of the coating in the area of the depressions is only reduced compared to the adjacent areas. The transitions between the walls of the depression and the adjacent areas of the coating are relatively large, so that this imitation of wooden pores is not fully satisfied. It is also necessary to use a polymerizable material for the coating, which is not always desirable.

In another known method (DT-PS 2 218 183), the printing ink is admixed with a chemical compound which can be decomposed by reaction with an acidic hardener to give off gas, which, after being printed on a plate, is provided with an acid-curable synthetic resin-containing coating which simultaneously has a coating contains as an acidic hardener and as a decomposing agent for the blowing agent serving further chemical compound, so that the admixture added to the printing ink mentioned is decomposed with the evolution of gas as soon as the coating is applied and in the areas in which it was applied to the plate, elevations of porous foam forms. With this method, it is extremely difficult to precisely control the reaction of the chemical compound which is decomposable under gas evolution. In addition, it is necessary to subsequently remove the elevations mechanically in order to produce depressions. Since the areas that have become porous foam due to gas development can hardly be completely removed, areas are retained which are mechanically very sensitive.

The invention has for its object to provide a method for producing films from decorative paper with a three-dimensional pattern, which is as simple as possible to implement and through which the film is given a structure which is barely distinguishable from wood.

The object is achieved in a method of the type mentioned in the invention in that at least one base color, preferably the last base color, a paint repellent is added. This simple measure ensures that the paint does not adhere to the relevant color points and that depressions are formed in the surface at these points. Since the last basic color reproduces the pores during the printing process in the production of imitations of wood on decorative paper, the repelling agent is therefore preferably added to the last basic color. When the decorative paper is later overcoated, the lacquer is repelled at the points where the pores are to be present and a pore is formed. It was found that a surprisingly good effect is achieved by this simple measure, since the pores obtained in practice are practically indistinguishable from natural wood in terms of their optical effect and their grip.

Als lackabstoßende Mittel werden Polysiloxane auf der Basis von Silikonharzen und -ölen verwendet..Polysiloxanes based on silicone resins and oils are used as paint repellents.

Two methods can be used to produce the films.

In the process, the decorative paper is dried after printing, then impregnated and go dries and then painted. In this process, the excess impregnating agent is removed from the printed side of the decorative paper before drying. The excess impregnating agent can be removed by a doctor blade or by washing with water. The use of a doctor blade or washing with water is particularly expedient if the impregnating agent is in the form of a dispersion or emulsion. It can be washed out using a roller that applies water to the printed side of the decorative paper. After the roller, a doctor blade can be provided for wiping off the washing water.

Mischungen in Frage. The use of a doctor blade or washing with water is not necessary if the impregnating agent is in the form of a solution. Aminophost resins, polyvinyl alcohols or mixtures are suitable as impregnating agents.

In the event that the film should be able to be folded very flexibly, resin combinations which are enriched with acrylate resins or consist of pure acrylic resin dispersions are to be used as the impregnating agent. Since the acrylate dispersions also cover the printing ink as good film formers, a different sequence of process steps is used in this second process. The decorative paper is first impregnated, dried and then printed and dried and then varnished.

During the drying process after painting, the paint is repelled by the printing ink that contains the paint-repelling agent, and the pore-like depressions are created at these points. The formation of the pore-like depressions can be promoted in a special manner in that after the lacquer application, the decorative paper with its unprinted side is guided over a heated surface and only then then dried in a drying tunnel. The heated surface is expediently formed by a roller which is arranged between the paint application and the drying tunnel. A doctor blade can also be used in front of the roller. The heated roller contributes to the accelerated formation of the pore pattern and to its sharp formation.
