Then the drilling machine is removed from the tap hole opening and a tap hole tamping machine is pivoted toward it so that its pipe mouth is at the tap hole opening.
- the machine mentioned is a displacement device for pressing in the plastic body under high pressure.
- the stuffing which is a refractory mass provided with a binder, is then pressed into the taphole by means of the taphole machine and then leave the machine in front of the closed tap hole for about 10 minutes to apply the necessary back pressure until hardening begins and then remove it by swinging it away.

- the blow rod which is held in the tap hole solely by clamping, is left in it until tapping, thus for about 1 hour. (As tests have shown, however, it is easily possible to leave the impact bar in the taphole opening for a considerably longer period of time, for example even for a week.)
- a counter-impact mechanism is automatically coupled to the impact bar by compressed air and this is then used with the same removed from the tap hole.
Abstract
Description
The invention relates to a method for alternately closing and opening the tap hole of metallurgical furnaces, in particular blast furnaces, a stuffing material being pressed into the tap hole, held therein with counterpressure at least until hardening begins, and the stuffing material is broken by means of a beater bar to open the tap hole.
When operating a blast furnace, it is customary to make a tap hole for the tapping that takes place after approximately 1 1/2 hours, or to open this and to close the tap hole after the tapping. A number of different proposals have become known for closing the tap opening. From DE-PS 263 914, for example, a device is known with which a replaceable so-called stopper carrier, on which the stopper mass is applied, is pivoted into the tap hole by means of a support rod with a counterweight and pressed therein. When tapping, the stuffing is not broken through, but the plug holder and the stuffing are pulled out of the tap hole. Because the mass at the edge of the tap hole must not get stuck, this proposal can only work with a special covering compound for the sealing plug, which is described in more detail in the additional patent specification 466 236. However, the device has not proven itself, which should not least be due to the fact that it has to build up and maintain the counterpressure during each furnace trip and is continuously exposed to the enormous heat.
According to US Pat. No. 1,537,901, the tap hole of melting furnaces is closed with a stuffing device, which consists of a bolt-shaped stamp surrounded by a cylindrical shell, the stuffing mass first being introduced into the part of the shell which projects above the stamp . The casing is then pressed against the furnace wall and the stamp in the casing is pressed forward, the stuffing material being pressed into the taphole opening.
According to the newer technology, it is customary for blast furnace tapping to pre-drill the tap hole opening to a remaining wall thickness of approximately 50 cm with a drilling device. Then the drilling device is replaced by an impact bar and with the same by striking a continuous one Taphole opening made. The beater bar is pulled out of the tap hole immediately afterwards. After tapping, the tap hole is closed with a stuffing compound using a tap hole tamping machine under very high pressure, this machine also serving to build up the counterpressure which is necessary at least until the initially plastic stuffing compound begins to harden. The process described is then repeated from the beginning because the stuffing compound soon hardens completely and the taphole opening must generally be formed again by drilling out the hardened stuffing compound, with the exception of the innermost area thereof.
The described method is cumbersome to carry out and not dangerous for the operators, which is why the invention has for its object to provide a method which allows the insertion and removal of the bumper bar to perform much faster, easier and safer and in a more economical manner than before.
This object is achieved according to the invention in a method of the type mentioned at the outset in that the striking rod is hammered into the stuffing which is pressed into the tap hole, some of which is still in the plastic state, in that it remains in the tap hole until the furnace has tapped and is then pulled out.
Since in the case of the method according to the invention, as a rule, no previous drilling, but only a striking on it, is required for introducing the impact rod, it can be carried out automatically in a particularly simple manner and without the risk of an accident for the operator concerned.
According to a preferred embodiment of the method according to the invention, the impact rod is driven as far as the inner end of the stuffing mass area, possibly up to the molten metal.
Surprisingly, it has been shown that there are no difficulties in operating the furnace even if the impact rod is knocked in to such an extent that its foremost part comes into contact with the molten metal.
It has proven to be advantageous if the beater bar with an average feed rate of at least 5 cm / s, expediently with a number of beats between 500 and 1500 beats / min. and an impact energy of between 250 and 300 J / impact will hit the stuffing.
The invention is explained in detail below in an exemplary embodiment.
In the hearth of a blast furnace, which has an approx. 3 m thick masonry lining, a tap hole with a circular cross section is drilled for the first time by means of a drilling device by impact drilling with a drill bit with a diameter of approx. 60 mm. Then the drilling machine is removed from the tap hole opening and a tap hole tamping machine is pivoted toward it so that its pipe mouth is at the tap hole opening. (The machine mentioned is a displacement device for pressing in the plastic body under high pressure.) The stuffing, which is a refractory mass provided with a binder, is then pressed into the taphole by means of the taphole machine and then leave the machine in front of the closed tap hole for about 10 minutes to apply the necessary back pressure until hardening begins and then remove it by swinging it away. Thereafter, a cylindrical blow rod consisting of St 37 and a diameter of 50 mm is pressed into the tap hole, which is still mainly in the plastic state, by means of a pneumatic hammer (number of blows: 400 blows for about 40 s) into the interior of the Blown in the blast furnace so that it comes into contact with the molten pig iron located there. The blow rod, which is held in the tap hole solely by clamping, is left in it until tapping, thus for about 1 hour. (As tests have shown, however, it is easily possible to leave the impact bar in the taphole opening for a considerably longer period of time, for example even for a week.) For tapping, a counter-impact mechanism is automatically coupled to the impact bar by compressed air and this is then used with the same removed from the tap hole.
After tapping, the procedure described is repeated without the need to use the drilling device again.
