Abstract
Wall, consisting of steel posts and panels which are connected to the posts by means of tags punched out of the posts.
Description
- The invention relates to a wall comprising two relatively spaced partitions between which earth is provided and which are fastened to posts, at least one partition consisting of a plurality of superposed, downwardly and inwardly inclined panels and the posts consisting of steel profiles.
- Such a wall is known from German Patent Application laid up for
public inspection 2 706 846. In this known wall the panels are constructed in the form of walls of botanical troughs, for which purpose the two panels bounding the same trough are interconnected by tie means. These tie means are expensive not only in manufacture, but also in mounting said known wall. - The invention has for its object to simplify both mounting of the wall and the tie means. For this purpose tags punched out of a sheet portion of the profiles position the panels in an inclined sheet.
- A satisfactory relationship between the panels and the posts is obtained, when the tags grip around bent-over rims of the panels.
- When earth is provided between the partitions, the wall can operate as a large botanical-trough. The stems of the plants, particularly of hanging plants can grow out of the trough on the top side, when it is open on the top side. In a wall embodying the invention that can be constructed in a simple, yet durable manner at least one of the partitions is made from thermally zinc-plated steel sheet.
- If at the initially moederate vegetation the aesthetical aspect of thermally zinc-plated steel sheet is considered to be unsatisfying, the sheet may be covered with a coating of paint. The wall embodying the invention is particularly suitable for use as a separation wall in gardens, but it is extremely suitable as a sound inhibiting wall satisfactorily operating along roads.
- The invention will be described more fully with reference to a drawing.
- The drawing shows in:
- figure 1 a perspective view of a preferred embodiment of a wall in accordance with the invention, and
- figure 2 an enlarged sectional view taken on the line II-II of figure 1.
- The wall 1 is erected by means of a sequence of equally
spaced posts 2 buried in the ground or arranged on a foundation and formed by steel profiles, though they are preferably made from thermally zinc-plated steel sheet having, for example, an I-section profile. In theweb 4 thereof series of tags 3 are punched out on both sides and bent slightly over to the outside. The wall 1 furthermore comprises two relativelyspaced partitions 6 arranged between each pair ofposts 2 and leaving free anintermediate space 5. Eachpartition 6 consists of a plurality - for example, four, -.of superposed, downwardly and inwardly inclined panels 7 each consisting of thermally zinc-plated and profiled steel sheet. The downwardly inclined direction is determined by the tags 3 gripping behind a bent-overhead rim 16 of the panels 7 and provisionally by a few tags 8. These tags 3 and 8 can be provided by a simple punching operation, the tags being cut loose simultaneously on both sides of the web and being bent out of the plane of the web. After the panels 7 have been arranged in place, earth 9 is poured from above into thespace 5, said earth urging thepartitions 6 to the outside. Below the lower rim 10 and thetop rim 11 of two consecutive panels 7 is formed a slot-like passage 12, so that the stems of plants having theirroots 15 in the earth 9 can emerge. In this manner a magnificient overgrowth will be formed, which occupies very little horizontal space. - In order to bridge the initial period of growth the
posts 2 and the panels 7 may be coated with a layer of paint. The wall also constitutes a satisfactory protection for shrubs. - The plants can also grow from above out of the wall 1. The panels 7 each have two
bead rims 18 and a plurality of stiffening ribs 17, imparting to the panels the appearance of a series of boards.
Claims (10)
1. A wall (1) comprising two relatively spaced partitions (6) between which earth (9) is provided and which are fastened to posts (2), at least one partition (6) consisting of a plurality of superposed, downwardly and inwardly inclined panels (7) and the posts (2) consisting of steel profiles, characterized in that tags (3) punched-out of a sheet portion (4) of the profiles position the panels in an inclined state.
2. A wall as claimed in claim 1, characterized in that the tags (3) grip around bent-over rims (16) of the panels (7).
3. A wall as claimed in claim 1 or 2, characterized in that each panel is supported by tags (3) on the outer side of the wall (1) and by tags (8) on the inner side of the wall (1).
4. A wall as claimed in any one of the preceding claims, characterized in that earth (9) is provided between the partitions (6) and a slot-like passage allowing plant stalks to pass is provided between each pair of superposed panels.
5. A wall as claimed in any one of the preceding claims, characterized in that the space (5) between the partitions (6) is open on the top side.
6. A wall as claimed in any one of the preceding claims, characterized in that at least one of the partitions (6) consists of thermally zinc-plated steel sheet.
7. A wall as claimed in claim 6, characterized in that the thermally zinc-plated steel sheet is provided with a layer of paint.
8. A wall as claimed in any one of the preceding claims, characterized in that the panels (7) each have horizontal stiffening ribs.
9. A wall as claimed in any one of the preceding claims, characterized in that the top rims of the superposed panels (7) are located in one and the same vertical plane.
10. A wall as claimed in any one of the preceding claims, characterized in that it is erected along a thorough- fare.
