Definitions

  • the present invention relates to devices for installing a fin or a fin in the structure of a windsurfing board.
  • windsurfing boards or single-seater boats of a sporting nature consist of a hull of shallow draft similar to a board a few centimeters thick and the cutting of which comprises a bow.
  • This board consists of a core of polyurethane foam between an upper face and a lower face of polyester fiberglass.
  • the only elements equipping this board are a mast, a sail, a wisbone, a fin and a fin located behind the drift.
  • the fin is installed using a tenon located in its upper part in a longitudinal mortise provided for this purpose on the underside of the board: the maintenance of the fin in its housing is ensured at by means of two rubber studs interposed between the longitudinal faces of the tenon and of the mortise, the elasticity of the material ensuring permanent contact pressures between the assembled parts.
  • This method of fixing does not, however, ensure rigidity to the assembly; it follows the risk of loss of the fin under the sole action of the waves and even more inevitably when it comes into contact with an obstacle or with the sand when the board arrives on the beach .
  • the device according to the invention makes it possible to avoid these drawbacks by providing a sufficiently rigid implantation of the fin or of the fin in the board during navigation while allowing an erasing of said fin or of said fin under the board in the event of an impact with an obstacle without fear of deterioration of the board, the aileron-board or board-drift connection, which can continue to be ensured after the impact, which device allows in addition a rapid installation and removal of the fin or fin.
  • the device, object of the invention consists of a housing or cage which is incorporated by gluing into a recess provided for this purpose in the structure of the board, which cage comprises elastic retaining means and a collaborating pivot point. with corresponding means provided on the tenon of the fin or of the fin.
  • the cage has a recess constituting a mortise, at least one end of which has an elastic tongue or finger which fits into a recess provided in at least one of the vertical fields of the post, the sides of which adjust laterally with the sides of the mortise.
  • An end tab can be replaced by a pivot point consisting of a horizontal transverse axis connecting the two sides of the mortise and on which axis rocks the fin or the fin to slip away towards the rear of the board , the installation or removal of the fin or fin on this axis is effected by clipping.
  • the invention relates to a device for fixing a fin or a fin which allows the latter to be erased in the event of an impact with an obstacle, without risk of damaging the board.
  • This fixing device is characterized in that it comprises only two elements, a cage having a peripheral flange forming a bearing surface and delimiting an element forming a mortise, and an integral part of the fin, in the shape of a tenon.
  • the cage preferably formed in one piece, has two holding devices integral with the cage and at least one of which is an elastic tongue which keeps the fin in position by cooperation with a socket formed on the tenon of the fin.
  • the other holding device is either another elastic tongue which is also integral with the cage, or a pivot axis on which two lips come to engage elastically. In this way, under the action of a shock, the fin separates from the elastic tongue before the cage.
  • the fin is removable and can be removed from the cage, for example during transport.
  • This DOS 2,746,756 therefore describes a fin which is not removable and which always remains fixed on the board on which it is mounted.
  • the advantageous combination of characteristics is not found including a flange formed on the cage and constituting a bearing surface, and a shoulder formed on the fin and coming to bear against the flange. Maintaining the fin in position, in this DOS 2,746,756 is provided by a tongue elastic so that the holding force is not important. In the embodiment of Figure 9, this holding force can be increased by tightening the elastic tongue.
  • the advantage of erasing the fin in the event of an impact virtually disappears under these conditions. It is also necessary to note very significant drawbacks of the arrangement described in this document.
  • the fin can pivot around a fixed axis and is held in place by an elastic tongue.
  • the elastic tongue and its mounting device, and probably the axis, are made of metals. We know all the problems posed by the use of metals in seawater and consequently, it is certain that the mechanism described in this document is not as reliable as the device according to the invention, especially after a year or two for use, in particular for corrosion, blocking, rupture, etc.
  • the FR 76 patent application . 39,806 published under No. 2,376,023 which describes a hull having a fin articulated around an axis.
  • the fin can be removed from the axle which is formed in two parts which can move away when the user wishes and not as a result of an impact.
  • the shell forms a housing having depressions in which sections of the fin can get stuck which can thus be held in different positions.
  • DOS N'2.706.141 which describes an assembly forming drift and drift well, the assembly being intended to pass in a corresponding orifice formed in the hull.
  • the fin 1 is articulated on an axis and, in the event of an impact, it can pivot around this axis in order to disappear.
  • the drift well is intended to be introduced into the float part from above and for this purpose has a peripheral flange 7, but disposed on the side opposite to the fin. This peripheral flange therefore has in no way the same role as in the combination according to the invention. Maintaining the fin in position by an elastic tongue is in no way described or shown.
  • the fin is not separable from the fin shaft, the assembly being separable relative to the board.
  • the cage is integral with the board and only the fin is removable.
  • DOS N ° 2.639.073 which describes a fin which can pivot around an axis and which is held in position by an elastic member which can take various positions relative to teeth of the fin.
  • This patent in no way describes a cage intended to be fixed in the float of a windsurfing board and having a peripheral flange against which abuts a shoulder of the fin. It also does not describe the elastic tongue formed in one piece with the cage.
  • the assembly described comprises several metal elements which have the drawbacks indicated above with reference to DOS 2,746,756.
  • the present invention therefore relates to a device for fixing a fin or a fin on a windsurfing board, allowing the fin or the fin to be erased in the event of impact with an obstacle without risk of damaging the board, said device being characterized in that it comprises a cage intended to be incorporated into the structure of the windsurf board by bonding thereto, the cage comprising at its base a peripheral flange intended to form a bearing surface and delimiting a longitudinal recess forming a mortise in which a part forming a tenon of the fin or of the fin is adjusted, this part forming a tenon having a shoulder intended to rest on the peripheral flange of the cage, the latter further comprising , at the ends of the mortise, two holding devices integral with the cage and at least one of which is an elastic tongue intended to penetrate into a cell formed on the tenon of the fin or of the fin, so that the the elasticity of the tongue ensures an assembly by clipping of the fin or of the fin on the cage.
  • the device consists of a plastic cage of polyacetal type l, the details of which are illustrated in Figures 3,4 and 5 and a fin 2 made of plastic polyamide type, which is assembled by clipping.
  • the fin comprises for this purpose a tenon 3 whose thickness adjusts to within tolerances, in the width of the cage 1 forming a mortise, the vertical fields of end of which tenon comprise a recess or circular tab 4; these cells fit into the assembly position, the ends 5 of two elastic tabs 6 located at the bottom of the cage and deviate when the post is inserted into the cage to close in the assembled position to maintain permanent contact pressures sufficient to obtain assembly stability during navigation.
  • This stability is reinforced by the importance of the bearing surfaces of the base of the fin on the base of the cage.
  • This cage is made in the form of a hollow pyramid trunk, the base of which comprises a peripheral flange 7, intended to produce the support of the fin and avoid the penetration of the cage into the foam of polyurethane constituting the windsurf board in case of impact of the fin with an obstacle, when this has caused the deterioration of the polyester skin of the board.
  • the cage is put in place by gluing it in a housing 8 reserved in the board: the external face of the flange being located in the lower plane of the board, the longitudinal outer sides of the cage include ribs 9 providing anchorages ensuring perfect connection of the cage and the board after the adhesive has completely set.
  • the fin can slip away towards the rear of the board while remaining linked to the latter in the event of an impact with an obstacle, this overshadowed position being shown in solid lines.
  • the fin 10 is held in the cage 11 by clipping around a horizontal pivot axis 12 connecting the longitudinal sides of the mortise and located approximately halfway up the latter and by the elastic action of a tongue 13 implanted at the bottom of the cage, the end 14 of which fits into a recess 15 provided on the vertical end field of the tenon 16 of the fin; the other vertical field d end of the latter comprises a circular bore 17 opening outwards on two lips, the spacing of which allows the pivot axis 12 of the cage to pass by force and the positioning thereof in the bore: two elasticity slots 18 surrounding the bore produce with it a sort of elastic clamp facilitating the introduction and removal of the fin in the housing of the cage.
  • FIGS. 6,7,8 and 9 illustrate the details of the cage 11; the sets of assembly of the tenon and the mortise are identical to those provided in the first variant.
  • the longitudinal outer flanks of the cage also include ribs 20 providing anchors ensuring a connection perfect by gluing the cage and the board.
  • the tenon 16 has in its upper part a lug 21 bearing on a stop or heel 22 located in the background of mortise. This arrangement avoids the uncoupling of the elastic clamp and the pivot axis, when the rear edge of the fin comes into abutment at 23 on the edge delimiting the end of the mortise of the cage.
  • the two embodiments described allow instantaneous and sufficiently stable positioning of the fin: its rapid disassembly makes transporting the board easier.
  • the possibility of tilting avoids the risk of losing the aileron during navigation or on arrival on a beach.
  • the device, object of the invention applies to the attachment of a fin or fin on a windsurfing board.
  • the device according to the invention provides numerous advantages.
  • the drift cannot be lost under the effect of a shock because the pressing of the lug 21 on the stop 22 and the drift on the flange at 23 is opposed to the elastic disengagement of the bore 17 with the axis 12.
  • the installation and removal of the fin alone can be carried out without the aid of any tool.
  • the device of the invention provides a rigid implantation of the fin by clipping either using two identical elastic tabs mounted facing each other, the tightening of which collaborates with the abutments front and rear of the fin on the peripheral flange bordering the cage ( Figure 1) , or using a single tab associated with the clipping of a bore provided with an elasticity slot on a pivot axis obtained by molding the cage.
  • This device allows only two positions of the fin, navigation position and folded position: it does not have any attached assembly member: pin, metal pins, screws or others and as already indicated the fin can be assembled and disassembled without the use of 'tools. In addition, it does not contain any metallic elements and is therefore perfectly resistant to corrosion.
