A knitting machine according to claim 1, characterised in that the knitting arm (8) bringing the yarn (7) to the knitting machine is mounted so that it revolves around a substan- tiually vertical axis (10) passing by its end opposite to the end guiding the yarn, and the knitting arm is capable of taking up at least two positions, namely a first position, known in itself, in which the yarn (7) is brought tangentially to the guard plate (4) enters the end of the knitting arm and the point at which the needles take up the yarn.
3. A knitting machine according to claim 2, characterised in that the knitting arm (8) has a finger (12) linked to it and carried laterally of it on which a displacement component acts.
4. A knitting machine according to claim 3, characterised in that the displacement component of the knitting arm (8) consists of a cable (14) and or a lever which, operated by the control drum is capable of making the knitting arm revolve forward from its starting position, a spring (16) being provided which, acting on a flange (13) linked to the knitting arm, brings the knitting arm back to the starting point where it rests on a stop (17), when all operation ceases to be exerted on the cable.
