Definitions
- the present invention relates to an ingot mold for continuous casting of billets, comprising a pouring well made of a non-magnetic material, an annular tank, which surrounds the casting well and which is provided with an inlet distribution device and a distribution device. outlet for cooling water, and an electromagnetic inductor capable of creating a rotating radial magnetic field, which is housed in the annular tank (FR-A-2 355 392, US-A-3941183).
- Ingot molds for continuous billet casting comprising an electromagnetic stirring inductor capable of creating a magnetic field rotating around the casting axis of the ingot mold, which is sufficiently intense for the magnetic flux created to pass through at the same time the walls of the ingot mold, although they are made of a relatively good conductive copper alloy, and the ingot still liquid during casting, in order to stir the molten metal of the latter.
- a mold of this type and its inductor are for example described in FR-A-2 355 392. Given the very large amount of heat transmitted to the mold by the molten metal, the bowl of the mold is traversed by a strong current of cooling water and the electromagnetic inductor is completely immersed in this cooling water.
- the electrical supply voltage of the inductor coils is relatively low (a few hundred volts) and the conductor wires of the coils are covered with waterproof insulation, it is to be feared that water cooling in which the inductor is immersed is of poor quality and, in particular, laden with ferruginous dust. The conductivity of the cooling water therefore often leaves something to be desired and may adversely affect the proper functioning of the inductor in the long run.
- the main object of the present invention is to remedy this problem by providing an ingot mold of the above-mentioned type, in which the inductor is immersed in a cooling fluid which remains very slightly conductive throughout the lifetime of the ingot mold.
- the ingot mold according to the present invention is characterized in that the electromagnetic inductor is arranged in an annular box which is watertight for cooling the tank, which is filled with a secondary cooling fluid and which is itself - even arranged and supported in the annular tank so that its walls are spaced from the walls of the annular tank and the taphole, at least the inner cylindrical wall of the sealed annular box which faces the taphole being made of a material non-magnetic.
- the secondary cooling fluid may for example consist of deoxygenated water, treated so as to have a low electrical conductivity and optionally containing an addition of oil soluble in water.
- a device capable of creating a closed-circuit circulation of said cooling fluid secondary to the inside said sealed annular box.
- the ingot mold 1 represented in FIG. 1 comprises, in a known manner, a tapping well 2 made of a non-magnetic material, for example of copper or a copper alloy, an annular tank 3, which surrounds the tapping well 2 and which is provided an inlet distributor 4 and an outlet distributor 5 for cooling water, and an electromagnetic inductor 6.
- the electromagnetic inductor 6 essentially comprises a magnetic circuit 7 and coils 8 which are supplied with polyphase alternating current at low frequency. Only the heads of the coils 8 have been shown in FIG. 1.
- the electromagnetic inductor 6 is intended to produce a radial magnetic field rotating around the axis 9 of the pouring tube 2.
- the diametrically opposite coils 8 are connected in such a way that the magnetic fluxes they create add up, so that the rotating magnetic field thus created crosses the ingot diametrically during solidification.
- the electromagnetic inductor 6 can be produced as described in FR-A-2 355 392 mentioned above.
- Screens 10 and 11 produced in the form of cylindrical rings of good conductive metal, for example copper, are arranged behind the heads of the coils 8 so as to reflect the magnetic field created by them.
- the screen 11 also serves to support the electromagnetic inductor 6 as will be seen below.
- the electromagnetic inductor 6 is arranged in an annular box 12 watertight for cooling the tank 3, which is filled with a secondary cooling fluid and which is itself placed in the tank 3 so that its walls 13, 14, 15 and 16 are spaced from the walls 17, 18 and 19 of the tank 3 and the tube pouring 2.
- the sealed annular box 12 is supported on the bottom 19 of the tank 3 by shims 20 circumferentially and radially spaced so as to allow the circulation of the primary cooling water between the bottom 16 of the sealed box 12 and the bottom 19 of the tank 3.
- the inner cylindrical wall 15 of the waterproof box 12 is made of a non-magnetic material, for example thin stainless steel.
- the internal cylindrical wall 15 is connected to the upper wall 14 of the box 12 by an annular expansion joint 21 produced for example in the form with a metal bellows.
- an annular expansion joint 21 produced for example in the form with a metal bellows.
- a number of expansion bellows 22 are provided (only one of them is visible in FIG. 1) on the external cylindrical wall 13 of housing 12.
- the electromagnetic inductor 6 and the secondary cooling fluid contained in the sealed box 12 are completely isolated from the primary cooling water, of poor quality and often charged with particles of metal oxides and metal, which circulates in the tank 3.
- the primary cooling water is admitted into an annular inlet chamber 23 by a water supply pipe 24, then it passes between the bottom 19 of the tank 3 and a plate 25 for supporting the mold 1, and it rises between the pouring tube 2 and a cylindrical wall 26 of non-magnetic metal, which is part of the tank 3 and which is disposed between the tube casting 2 and the internal cylindrical wall 15 of the casing 12. After passing between the pouring tube 2 and the cylindrical wall 26, the primary cooling water divides to follow two circuits.
- a first circuit passes between the cover 18 of the tank 3 and the upper wall 14 of the waterproof box 12, then between the external cylindrical walls 13 and 17 of the waterproof box 12 and of the tank 3 to reach the annular outlet chamber 27 through orifices 28 in the wall 17 and to exit this chamber 27 via the pipe 29 for discharging water.
- the second circuit descends between the internal cylindrical walls 15 and 26 of the watertight box 12 and of the tank 3, then it passes between the bottoms 16 and 19 of the waterproof box 12 and of the tank 3, then it goes up between the external cylindrical walls 13 and 17 of the watertight box 12 and of the tank 3 to finally gain the annular outlet chamber 27 through the orifices 28.
- annular rotor constituted by a conductive rim 30 and by helical blades 31 is mounted to rotate concentrically with the axis 9 between the magnetic circuit 7 of the inductor 6 and the internal cylindrical wall 15 of the sealed box 12, so as to rotate under the effect of the main magnetic field created by the electromagnetic inductor 6.
- the rotor 30, 31 is rotatably supported by two series of rollers 32 and 33 circumferentially spaced and intended to hold the rotor axially and radially .
- the blades 31 of the rotor are preferably inclined so as to lower the secondary cooling fluid along the internal cylindrical wall 15 of the casing 12 and to make it rise between the coils 8 and through notches and channels (not shown ) of the magnetic circuit 7 as indicated by the arrows.
- An annular deflector 34 preferably made of insulating material, can be provided to better direct the secondary cooling fluid in the direction indicated by the arrows.
- the ring forming the screen 11 is supported by the lower wall 16 of the box 12, and channels 35 are formed at the base of this ring to also allow a circulation of the secondary cooling fluid outside the magnetic circuit 7, between the latter and the external cylindrical wall 13 of the box 12.
- the secondary cooling fluid can advantageously consist of deoxygenated water and treated so as to have a low electrical conductivity.
- the secondary cooling water can also be added with water-soluble oil in order to ensure lubrication of the rollers 32 and 33 and to significantly lower the freezing point.
- the rotor 30, 31 is arranged so as to be driven in rotation by the main magnetic field created by the electromagnetic inductor 6. Part of the magnetic flux main generated by the inductor 6 is therefore used at the expense of stirring the molten metal of the ingot during casting.
- the rotor 30, 31 can be rotatably mounted concentrically with the heads of the coils 8 of the inductor 6, for example at the bottom of the sealed box 12, so as to rotate under the effect of the magnetic field created by the coil heads, as shown in FIG. 2.
- the rotor 30, 31 can also be arranged as shown in FIG. 3.
- the rotor 30, 31 is rotatably mounted coaxially with the inductor 6 at one end of that here, so as to rotate under the effect of the radial component of the magnetic field created by the heads of the coils 8.
- the rotor 30, 31 is in the form of a flat crown 30 perpendicular to the axis 9 and provided blading 31 inclined so as to circulate the water from the periphery of the crown 30 towards the interior of the latter as indicated by the arrows.
