Definitions

  • the present invention relates to a lightened armored vehicle and applies to all types of military vehicles usable in combat zones, liaison, reconnaissance or combat vehicles proper.
  • the present invention allows the realization of a lightened armored vehicle ensuring a good quality of protection for the occupants and vital organs of the vehicle, while remaining within tolerable weight limits.
  • the invention applies to a lightened armored vehicle consisting of a body carried by running gear, and containing drive members and means for transmitting the movement of the engine to the running gear, with positions for personnel at the inside the box.
  • the central main cell is, longitudinally, entirely comprised between the extreme axes of the rolling members.
  • Figures 1 to 3 relate to a lightened armored vehicle mainly intended for the transport of personnel.
  • Figure 1 is a simplified representation, a side view of a vehicle produced according to the invention.
  • Figures 2 and 3 are respectively an end view and a top view of this vehicle.
  • Figures 4 to 6 respectively homologous to Figures 1 to 3, relate to a battle tank.
  • the vehicle which rests on four independent wheels 1, is first constituted by an armored central carcass shown in strong lines in the drawings. It is made of relatively thick shield sheets and welded to form a substantially closed cell. In its lower part, this central cell comprises a floor 3 forming a slight dihedral, incinerated side walls 4, as well as the front 5 and rear end walls 6. In the upper part, the side sheets 8 are inclined with a reverse slope lower side walls, and the troit 9 is on two levels separated by a recess.
  • the assembly is completed by a substantially vertical rear wall 12 and a front cowling 13 very inclined on the horizontal. Side housings 15 and 16 are provided respectively at the front and at the rear to allow the passage and movement of the vehicle wheels.
  • this central cell well protected by a relatively thick shielding, is of a very limited volume so as to protect only the occupants of the vehicle and the vital organs of propulsion.
  • the engine 18 and the gearbox 19 are included in this central cell, and it is also possible to provide an intermediate nurse forming a buffer tank between the main fuel tank and the engine.
  • the highly protected central core is extended, at the front and at the rear, by boxes 22 and 23 which extend beyond the wheels, also providing housing for the passage and clearance of the wheels. These boxes are also made of welded armor plates, but of significantly less thickness than those of the central cell.
  • the free space between the central cell and the external shields is occupied by less vital organs of the equipment engine, such as, for example, the main fuel tank, the steering members or the arms for suspending and transmitting movement to the wheels.
  • the vehicle which is carried by two tracks 30 is constituted by a heavily armored central carcass shown in strong lines in the drawings. It is formed of thick, welded armor plates to form a practically closed cell, of generally roughly parallelepiped shape, with a floor 32 in the shape of a slight dihedral, and two vertical side walls 33. At the front the wall of end 34 is strongly inclined while at the rear wall 35 is substantially vertical.
  • the roof 36 is extended by two inclined parts forming a cowling 37 and 38.
  • a central cell has thus been very protected by thick armor, but of a volume and therefore of very limited weight, in order to protect only the occupants 40 of the vehicle as well as the vital organs of propulsion such as the engine 41 or the gearbox 42.
  • the side walls of this central cell however have openings for the passage of the movement transmission members towards the drive of the tracks.
  • the roof 36 has openings for access to the orientable turret.
  • the highly protected central cell is extended, at the front and rear, by boxes 44 and 45 which, with the side boxes 46, complete the exterior covering of the entire vehicle.
  • These boxes are also made of welded armor plates, but of less thickness than the plates of the central cell.
  • the free space between the central cell and the outer shields is occupied by less vital components than the engine equipment, and for example fuel tanks, the steering components or the arms for transmitting movement to the tracks.
