Abstract
Un aparato para inspeccionar el contorno de la pared lateral (30) de un envase que incluye por lo menos una fuente de luz (32 o 66) para dirigir energía de luz sobre la pared lateral del encase y por lo menos un sensor de luz (38 o 72) colocado para recibir energía de luz de una fuente de luz que se refleja de la pared lateral del envase. El sensor de luz responde a dicha energía de luz que se refleja para dar señales indicativas de la posición de la pared lateral del envase en relación al sensor en por los menos dos ubicaciones (54, 56, 58) en la pared lateral del envase espaciadas la una de la otra en la dirección del eje del envase. Un procesador de información (40) responde a tales señales para determinar el contorno de una pared lateral del envase como una función de las posiciones de la pared lateral en tales ubicaciones. Las dos ubicaciones como mínimo en la pared lateral del envase de preferencia se encuentran nominalmente alineadas la una con la otra en una dirección paralela al eje del envase. Una de las ubicaciones (54 o 58) en la pared lateral del envase preferiblemente se encuentra adyacente al hombro del envase o al talón del envase, y otra de las ubicaciones (56) se encuentra entre la pared lateral del envase entre el hombro del envase y el talón del envase.
