Den foreliggende opfindelse angår en stabil tixotrop dispersion af triphenyl- eller trialkyltinfluorider i organiske opløsningsmidler. En sådan dispersion kan opbevares i længere tidsrum uden nogen kendelig forøgelse af vi-5 skositeten.
En række triorganotinfluorider, indbefattende tri--n-butyltinfluorid, er effektive til hinding af begroning med rankefødder og andre organismer, der sætter sig fast og vokser på overflader under vandet såsom skroget af sø-10 gående fartøjer og pæleværk i dokker og andre faciliteter, som er udsat for saltvand, og triorganotinfluoriderne er derfor af stor betydning som giftstof i begroningsmodvirkende overtræk. Et typisk begroningsmodvirkende overtræk indeholder sammen med giftstoffet ét eller flere pigmenter )5 og en filmdannende polymer, og alle disse komponenter findes opløst eller dispergeret i et organisk opløsningsmiddel, såsom xylen eller toluen, eventuelt sammen med en keton, såsom 2-butanon.
Hidtil har det imidlertid været vanskeligt at frem-20 stille acceptable overtræk indeholdende triorganotinfluorider, der er faste stoffer ved omgivelsestemperatur, idet dispersioner af triorganotinfluorider i organiske opløsningsmidler udviser en stærk tilbøjelighed til at agglomerere i form af store partikler, og disse materialer kan derfor ik-25 ke dispergeres i overtræksmaterialer eller organiske opløsningsmidler ved hurtigblanding. Denne usædvanlige opførsel har været forklaret ud fra forskellen mellem tins og fluors elektronegativitet, der giver en forholdsvis svag tiltrækningskraft· mellem tinatomet i ét molekyle og fluor-30 atomet i et tilstødende molekyle, hvilket resulterer i en struktur, der ligner strukturen for et lineært polymermolekyle. Uanset årsagen er agglomereringen uønsket, da den gør det vanskeligt eller umuligt at fremstille et anvendeligt overtræksmateriale, hvori den maksimale partikelstør-35 relse er 45 micron eller mindre, idet en sådan finhedsgrad ikke kan opnås uden langsommelig, tidsrøvende formaling i 2

en sten- eller kuglemølle, og selv med en sådan formalingsmetode kan der stadig være hårde agglomerater til stede i materialet, som må fjernes til opnåelse af et anvendeligt overtræksmateriale.
5 Formålet med opfindelsen er at tilvejebringe sta bile tixotrope dispersioner af triphenyl- eller trialkyl-tinfluorider, som let kan dispergeres i overtræksmaterialer, uden at en formaling er nødvendig til opnåelse af den ønskede partikelstørrelse.
10 Opfindelsen er baseret på den overraskende erken delse, at triphenyl- og trialkyltinfluorider såsom tri-n--butyltinfluorid, kan dispergeres i organiske opløsningsmidler uden agglomerering og under dannelse af stabile materialer, hvis dispersionen fremstilles i nærværelse af 15 visse uorganiske forbindelser, som vil blive nærmere beskrevet i det følgende. De derved opnåede produkter er stabile i lange tidsrum og kan let inkorporeres i overtræksmaterialer indbefattende malinger.
Offentliggjort japansk, patentansøgning nr. 7.338.847 20 omtaler opvarmning af tri-n-butyltinfluorid til 40-60°C i et flydende carbonhydrid eller halogeneret carbonhydrid, som koger fra 50 til 200°C, men den derved fremkomne opslæmning hiiver hård ved henstand i et hvilket som helst antageligt tidsrum og er derfor ikke egnet til inkorpore-25 ring i begroningsmodvirkende overtræk, og selv efter formaling vil de fremkomne partikler ikke give en dispersion af tilstrækkelig "finhed".
Den stabile, tixotrope dispersion af triphenyl-eller trialkyltinfluorider i organiske opløsningmidler 30 ifølge opfindelsen er ejendommelig ved, at den i hovedsagen består af al 40-70 vægt-% af et triorganotinfluorid af formlen R^SnE, hvor R er alkyl med 2-H.2 carbonatomer eller phenyl, b) 20-60 vægt-% af et organisk flydende medium valgt 35 blandt alkoholer med 4-12 carbonatomer, aliphatiske carbonhydrider med 5-12 carbonatomer og aromatiske 3

carbonhydrider med en kauri-butanolværdi på 96 eller mindre eller blandinger heraf/ idet en blanding eventuelt yderligere indeholder enten 1) n-butylacetat og isobutylacetat eller 2) amylacetat, og 5 c) 0,5-10 vægt-% af en forbindelse valgt blandt 1) carbonsyre-, phosphorsyre-, hypophosphorsyrling- og phosphorsyrling-salte af lithium, natrium, beryllium, magnesium og calcium, 2) carboxylsyresalte af lithium, natrium, beryllium, 10 magnesium og calcium, hvor carboxylsyren indeholder 2-12 carbonatomer, og 3) hydroxider af lithium, natrium, kalium, beryllium, magnesium og calcium.
Det nye og ejendommelige ved de triorganotinfluorid-15 -holdige produkter ifølge opfindelsen ligger i tilstedeværelsen af de nævnte uorganiske forbindelser, hvilke forbindelser stabiliserer dispersionen ved at forhindre agglome-rering af triorganotinfluorid-partiklerne. Nedenfor vil det blive påvist, at ikke alle uorganiske forbindelser er 20 egnede stabilisatorer, og det er vanskeligt uden eksperi-mentering at forudsige, hvilke forbindelser der vil være egnede. Således gælder det f.eks., at medens natriumforbindelser er generelt anvendelige, er den eneste effektive kaliumforbindelse hydroxidet.
25 Den kationogene del i de forbindelser, der har vist sig at være effektive dispersionsstabilisatorer, er afledt af et alkalimetal (lithium og natrium) eller et jordalka-limetal (beryllium, calcium og magnesium), medens den anionogene del i molekylet er syreresten af en uorganisk 30 syre (carbonsyre eller en phosphorholdig syre) eller en carboxylsyre med 2-12 carbonatomer. Eksempler på disse sidste er eddikesyre, propionsyre, smørsyre, capronsyre, heptansyre, cyclohexancarboxylsyre og benzoesyre.
Til sammenligning tjener, at en dispersion inde-35 holdende natriumchlorid vil størkne ved henstand, og dette gælder også for dispersioner, som indeholder kalium-ana-logene til de ovenfor nævnte natriumforbindelser med undtagelse af kaliumhydroxid, som ganske overraskende giver en stabil dispersion.

Foruden valget af den rigtige uorganiske forbin-delse er også valget af det flydende organiske medium kritisk til opnåelse af stabile dispersioner af et trior ganotinfluorid. Egnede organiske væsker omfatter som 5 nævnt aliphatiske carbonhydrider med 5-12 carbonatomer og aromatiske carbonhydrider med en kauri-butanolværdi på 96 eller mindre. Kauri-butanolværdien for et carbon- 3 hydrid-opløsningsmiddel svarer til det rumfang i cm (målt ved 25°C) af et givet opløsningsmiddel, som vil 10 give en bestemt grad af uklarhed ved tilsætning til 20 g af en standard-opløsning af kauri-harpiks i normal butanol. Toluen har en værdi på 105. Prøvemetoden er publiceret af American Society for Testing and Materials som ASTM Test No. 01133-61 (godkendt igen i 1973).
15 De anvendelige flydende carbonhydrider omfatter aliphatiske carbonhydrider med 5-12 carbonatomer, og disse kan anvendes hver for sig eller i blandinger, der fås i handelen som f.eks. mineralsk terpentin, petro-leumsether og naphtha. De anvendelige aromatiske carbon-20 hydrider omfatter f.eks. ethylbenzen, hvorimod toluen og xylen har en kauri-butanolværdi på mere end 96 og derfor ikke vil være et egnet medium til dispersionerne ifølge opfindelsen. Andre anvendelige flydende medier omfatter alkoholer med 4-12 carbonatomer, medens der over-25 raskende ikke kan fremstilles en stabil dispersion med n-propanol.
De triorganotinfluorider, som anvendes i de stabile dispersioner ifølge opfindelsen, har den almene formel R^SnF, hvor R er alkyl med 2-12 carbonatomer eller phenyl.
30 Hvis dispersionen skal inkorporeres i et overtræksmateri- ale, der er beregnet til hæmning af begroning med rankefødder og andre organismer på skibsskrog og andre konstruktioner, der normalt er neddyppet i vand, skal R fortrinsvis være n-butyl eller phenyl.

40 til 70 vægt-% af et triorganotinfluorid, medens det tidligere ikke har været muligt at inkorporere mere end ca. 40 vægt-% af et triorganotinfluorid i en dispersion.
Den maksimale mængde fluorid, der kan inkorporeres i en 5 anvendelig dispersion, vil selvfølgelig i nogen grad variere afhængende af, hvilken speciel uorganisk forbindelse og hvilket flydende organisk medium der anvendes.
Den fysiske form for dispersionerne ifølge opfindelsen kan variere fra viskose væsker til halvfaste pa-10 staer, afhængende af koncentrationen af triorganotinfluorid. En vigtig fordel ved disse produkter er, at de let kan blandes med andre bestanddele, der sædvanligvis findes i malinger og andre overtræksmaterialer, som f.eks. filmdannende, naturlige eller syntetiske harpikser såsom kolo-15 fonium og copolymere af vinylchlorid med én eller flere ethylenisk umættede monomere, samt pigmenter såsom titan-dioxid og jernoxid, dispergeringshjælpemidler, især ler--arter såsom bentonit, og ét eller flere organiske opløsningsmidler.
20 Inkorporering af faste triorganotinfluorider i overtræksmaterialer er en langsommelig og tidsrøvende procedure på grund af fluoridets tilbøjelighed til at agglome-rere. Det fremstillede overtræksmateriale kræver sædvanligvis flere timers formaling for at opnå en finhed på 4-5 på 25 Hegman N.S.-skalaen fra O (ingen formaling) til 10 (udmærket formaling). En værdi på 4-5 på denne skala svarer til en gennemsnitlig partikelstørrelse på fra 40 til 70 micron. Lignende problemer bevirket af agglomerering møder man, hvis man forsøger at dispergere triorganotin-30 fluoridet i et organisk opløsningsmiddel, før det inkorporeres i et overtræksmateriale. Hertil kommer, at når man har opnået en dispersion af den ønskede partikelstørrelse, vil den hurtigt hærdne til et voksagtigt fast stof, hvorfor den ikke kan opbevares i noget kendeligt tidsrum.

Eksempel 1
Dispersioner af tri-n-butyltinfluorid fremstilles ved sammenblanding af 60 dele af denne forbindelse, 5 dele af den uorganiske stabilisator og 35 dele af 5 en blanding indeholdende 64% "special haphthalite" (en blanding af flydende carbonhydrider indeholdende mindre end 8% aromatiske carbonhydrider), 12% ethylbenzen, 9% n-butylacetat (fortyndingsmiddel), 5% isobutylacetat (fortyndingsmiddel) og 10% n-butanol. Flammepunktet 10 for denne blanding er 14,4°C, kauri-hutanoltallet er 36, og kogeområdet er 123-145°C. Af den fremkomne blanding anbringes 100 g i en cylindrisk beholder med en diameter på 5,1 cm og en højde på 11,4 cm, og i den samme beholder anbringes også 250 g kugler af rustfrit stål med 15 en diameter på 4,7 mm. Beholderen lukkes derefter og rystes kraftigt i 20 minutter, hvorefter dens indhold tømmes ud på en sigte med store masker. Dispersioner, der størkner under formalingen og smuldrer, når der stødes til dem med en spatel, betragtes som uaccep-20 table og undersøges ikke yderligere. Acceptable produkter er enten viskose væsker eller homogene sammenhængende halvfaste stoffer, der kan presses gennem åbningerne i sigten med en spatel. De materialer, som passerer gennem sigten, samles og holdes under omgivelsesbetingelser i 25 to døgn, hvorefter de undersøges til bestemmelse af, om der i den tid er sket nogen ændringer i deres fysiske form. De produkter, som størkner, og ikke længere kan omrøres med en spatel, betragtes som uacceptable. Alle de acceptable produkter er tixotrope halvfaste stoffer eller viskose 30 væsker, som udviser en betydelig viskositetsnedsættelse under forskydning. Nogle af de produkter, der synes at være sammenhængende faste stoffer, kan dog let omrøres ved håndkraft med en spatel under kun en minimal kraft-påførelse.
De uorganiske forbindelser, som giver acceptable 35 dispersioner, omfatter lithiumacetat, natriumcarbonat, na-triumbicarbonat, natriumhypophosphit (som monohydratet), natriumhydrogenphosphit (som pentahydratet), natriumphos- 7

Uorganiske forbindelser, som ikke giver acceptable dispersioner, omfatter natriumchlorid og natriumsulfat, samt kaliumcarbonat, kaliumphosphit, kaliumphosphat, kalium-chlorid, kaliumsulfat, kaliumacetat, magnesiumsulfat og cal-10 ciumsulfat.
De ved bedømmelsen opnåede data viser, at selv om en række natriumforbindelser er acceptable stabilisatorer, vil de tilsvarende· kaliumforbindelser, med undtagelse af hydroxidet, ikke forhindre størkning af dispersionen. Det menes, at en effektiv stabilisator vil forstyrre dannelsen af stærke bindinger mellem fluoratomerne 20 i ét molekyle og tinatomerne i tilstødende molekyler, hvilken bindingsdannelse menes at være skyld i den agglomere-ring, som næsten altid sker, når et triorganotinfluorid dispergeres i et organisk opløsningsmiddel i fraværelse af en af de uorganiske forbindelser, der anvendes ifølge 25 nærværende opfindelse.
Eksempel 2
Virkningen af forskellige organiske væsker eller fortyndingsmidler på stabiliteten af en dispersion inde-30 holdende 60 vægt-% tri-n-butyltinfluorid, 5% calciumcarbonat og 35% af det flydende organiske medium bestemmes ved fremstilling af en dispersion som beskrevet i eksempel 1. De bedømte organiske væsker omfatter en blanding af aromatiske carbonhydrider, der fås som "Solvesso" ^-150 fra Exxon Company og typisk har flammepunkt på 63-65°C 5 og kauri-butanolværdi 92, VM&P-naphtha, der er en blanding af aliphatiske' carbonhydrider, der typisk har et flammepunkt på 6f7°C ("tag closed cup") og et kogeområde fra 118 til 139°C samt kauri-butanolværdi 32, mineralsk terpentin (en blanding af aliphatiske carbonhydrider, 10 der typisk har et flammepunkt på 42,2°C ("tag closed up") og et kogeområde fra 160-196°C samt kauri-butanolværdi 37, samt ethylbenzen (kauri-butanolværdi 94), amylacetat og en blanding (A) indeholdende 33,3% VM&P-naphtha (32), 28,9% cyclohexan (50J og 37,8% amylacetat (fortyn-15 dingsmiddel), samt en anden blanding (B) indeholdende 34,2% mineralsk terpentin (37)., 4,4% "Solvesso® -150" (92), 12,2% ethylbenzen (94) og 49,2% amylacetat (fortynding smiddel) .
Omfattet af bedømmelsen er også cyclohexan 20 (kauri-butanolværdi 50), xylen (98), methylethylketon, n-butylacetat, isobutylacetat, n-butanol, ethylenglycol, n-propanol, octanol, "Cellosolve"-acetat (ethylengly-colmonomethylethermonoacetat) og toluen (105). Af de prøvede opløsningsmidler gav de to blandinger (A) og (B), 25 VM&P-naphtha, "Solvesso ®-150", mineralsk terpentin, ethylbenzen, cyclohexan, n-butanol og octanol acceptable dispersioner, medens dispersioner fremstillet med de øvrige opløsningsmidler er hårde efter den ene uges opbevaring eller for stive og gummiagtige til anvendelse i overtræksma-30 terialer.

Det opløsningsmiddel, der anvendes til fremstilling af dispersionerne, er en blanding indeholdende 64% "special naphthalite", 12% ethylbenzen, 9% n-butylacetat (fortyndingsnjiddel), 5% isobutylacetat (fortyndingsmid-20 del), og 10% n-butanol.
Den anvendte mængde tri-n-butyltinfluorid-dispersion svarer til 12 vægt-% af forbindelsen i hele produktet, og dispersionen sammenblandes med de øvrige bestanddele til dannelse af en homogen blanding.
25 Overtræksmaterialet bedømmes under anvendelse af et
Hegman N.S.-måleinstrument til bestemmelse af finheden ved formalingen. En metaloverflade påføres en 0,0076 cm tyk film under anvendelse af en påføringskniv, og teksturen af den fremkomne film bedømmes efter følgende skala: 30 1 ru overflade, der let konstateres ved gnidning med hån den hen over overtrækkets overflade 2 10-20 konstaterbare klumper ensartet fordelt på malingens overflade 3 adskillige synlige klumper 35 4 glat.
Resultater af bedømmelserne er anført i følgende tabel, hvor en Hegman-finhed på 4 eller 5 anses for acceptabel.

Claims (5)
1. Stabil tixotrop dispersion af triphenyl- eller trialkyltinfluorider i organiske opløsningsmidler, kendetegnet ved, at den i hovedsagen består af 5 a) 40-70 vægt-% af et triorganotinfluorid af formlen R^SnF, hvor R er alkyl med 2-12 carbonatomer eller phenyl, b) 20-60 vægt-% af et organisk flydende medium valgt blandt alkoholer med 4-12 carbonatomer, aliphatiske carbonhy-drider med 5-12 carbonatomer og aromatiske carbonhydri- 10 der med en kauri-butanolværdi på 96 eller mindre eller blandinger heraf, idet en blanding eventuelt yderligere indeholder enten 1) n-butylacetat og iso-butylacetat eller 2) amylacetat, og c) 0,5-10 vægt-% af en forbindelse valgt blandt 15 1) carbonsyre-, phosphorsyre-, hypophosphorsyrling- og phosphorsyrling-salte af lithium, natrium, beryllium, magnesium og calcium, 2. carboxylsyresalte af lithium, natrium, beryllium, magnesium og calcium, hvor carboxylsyren indeholder 2-12 20 carbonatomer, og 3. hydroxider af lithium, natrium, kalium, beryllium, magnesium og calcium.
2. Dispersion ifølge krav 1, kendetegnet ved, at den indeholder et triorganotinfluorid af den anfør- 25 te formel, hvori R indeholder 3-6 carbonatomer.
3. Dispersion ifølge krav 2, kendetegnet ved, at R er butyl.
4. Dispersion ifølge krav 1, kendetegnet ved, at det flydende organiske medium er en blanding inde- 30 holdende to aliphatiske carbonhydrider.
5. Dispersion ifølge krav 1, kendetegnet ved, at den under c) nævnte forbindelse er lithiumacetat, natriumcarbonat, natriumbicarbonat, natriumhypophosphit, natriumhydrogenphosphit, natriumphosphat, natriumhydrogen- 35 phosphat, natriumhydroxid, natriumacetat, kaliumhydroxid, magnesiumbicarbonat, magnesiumhydrogenphosphat, magnesiumhydroxid, magnesiumacetat, calciumcarbonat, calciumphos-phat, calciumhydroxid, calciumacetat eller calciumlactat.
