Water filter when there is as much agitation as possible, automatically caused by tangential inflow of the water into a cylindrical opening in the filter body and constant or periodic removal of the impurities with a portion of the unfiltered water.
Patentirt im Deutschen Reiche vom 12. August 1877 ab.Patented in the German Empire on August 12, 1877.
; The principle of the water filter now employed can be briefly characterized, in addition to the action of the charcoal, as the filtration of calm with retention of the solid constituents in the filter vessel. The filtration in the present apparatus takes place with as great a disturbance as possible, and with automatic constant or periodic removal of the impurities in a part of the uncleared water.
The apparatus consists of the housing C with the tube a attached to its bottom, the cover D and the filter body E, which forms a hollow cylinder. The inflow takes place through the cover D at b , the filtered water flows off through channel c. The inflow channel b is bent at right angles once in the vertical plane and the second time in the horizontal plane, as can be seen from FIGS. 1 and 4; This causes the water to flow tangentially into the cylindrical cavity of the filter body E. This has the consequence that the liquid in this cavity rotates with considerable vehemence; in this way only the smallest impurities follow in the slightest part the weak movement of the water through the large surface of the filter body; rather, they are kept suspended in the rotating water. If no impure water were withdrawn from the inner space in which the water rotates, the concentration would increase more and more until the whole space was filled with the filter product.
A = B But if a certain small quantity of water, be it constantly or periodically, is discharged from the inner space, the concentration only reaches a certain level, corresponding to the ratio of the quantity of water discharged in the middle to the quantity of water supplied. Assume that A is the quantity of water supplied with a / o contamination; Let B be the quantity of water filtered at the same time with b % / 0 impurities still contained therein; If the quantity of water drained in the middle at the same time with c "/ 0 impurities, then A = B
+ C is: C = - the limit of the concentration which can form in the rotating water.
If a liquid rotates in a stationary vessel, both the specifically lighter ones have it as well as the specifically heavier corpuscles suspended in it, the striving for the To move in the middle of the vessel: the former, because the heavier water particles, have the greater centrifugal force, are urged towards the axis, the latter because they fall to the ground decreased by friction on the stationary ground in rotation and therefore in centrifugal force lose and are also driven inwards by the water particles.
In the present filter Construction the fastened in the bottom pipe is covered α d to the cap tube, which is supported by the spring s so, that it is not verschliefst the tube in a standstill. This cap tube extends almost to the bottom of the vessel and since the tube α is not yet closed by the cap tube when the filter is started, the impurities that have accumulated on the bottom and mostly due to the previous rotation of the tube α are removed with a Part of the water thrown out first. Since every filter material has a resistance to the flow of water, a certain pressure is created in the inner space of the filter body. This pressure causes the cap tube d to be pushed down, whereby the tube α is closed. A complete closure, as it takes place with a real valve, does not need to be this closure, since here a constant or periodic flow is still intended. In order to produce the former, a notch, Fig. 1, is filed in the upper edge of the wall of the tube α , so that a small quantity of water with the impurities constantly freezes through this opening during filtration. Since the cap tube d makes a movement when the filter is turned off, this notch cannot become clogged, as would happen if a small opening with the cross section of the notch in the tube α were made instead of the notch.
